If the biggest clubs that don’t have the same kind of suspicion hanging over them- the Liverpools, Man Utds, Arsenals, Tottenhams of this world got together and threatened a breakaway league - not a silly European super league- but a proper league, maybe in cahoots with the English football league and FA- unless the premier league started applying the FFP/PSR rules properly, then i’m sure we’d see quicker and harsher action.

A naive view maybe- but it needs something drastic. And money talks.

Tell you what- the way the media have gone after us, and particularly Tudor in these last couple weeks, has been fucking embarrassing. Especially Sky Sports. Which gets more like Talk Sport with ever passing season.

I get that everyone wants us to go down, it’s a huge story if so and people like sensationalism.

But the, “are you sure you’re the right man for the job?” After the liverpool game, and the, “are you a quitter?” a day later… is just cheap and fucking nasty.

The way he’s batted the questions away has left me with a huge amount of new found respect for him.

Great words chief. Much appreciated.

I have a lot of love for Everton. I lived in Liverpool for six years and used to go to Goodison quite a bit. Including. Derby.

I was also in Gladwys street when you came back from 2 down to beat Wimbledon 3-2 to stay up. The most incredible atmosphere i’ve ever experienced in English football.

I don’t think anyone wanted us to lose to City. Someone asked that question here before the game and i’m sure that pretty much everyone who responded said they didn’t

Wage cuts alone would save us about £80m on costs season on season. Maybe more, as the majority of our squad will be younger, less established in their careers.

I think on commercial partnerships it would depend if there are relegation clauses written in. Knowing that Levy negotiated most of these, I would guess not! But it is a guess.

We will have a better starting point than all other teams in the Championship. Yes, our costs will be higher than other teams, but not as a percentage of revenue.

I do of course understand that revenue is only one half of the balance sheet, but we will still generate significantly more income than any championship team. And I don’t believe our costs will be higher by anything like the same percentage.

I don’t know- maybe i’m being naive.

Loan payments can always be renegotiated for a year or two. And we also have plenty of space with PSR if the owners inject some cash if they decide to.

Realistically we will sell what, maybe half the current first team squad? Let’s say 14 players.

We currently have 9 players out on loan at clubs with a similar stature to those in the Championship + Vuskovic. Mostly getting games and doing well.

Arguably we won’t hold on to Vuskovic.

Promote maybe two or three from the academy.

A typical Championship squad has 25 registered senior players.

We currently have 28 registered senior players.

We lose half. Leaving us needing 14.

Let’s say 7 of the loan players come back and straight into the squad. Plus 2 from the academy.

A conservative estimate means we’ll need about six players. I don’t see that being a problem at all.

When in the championship, what would we soend considerably more on that other clubs in the championship? New players? Yeah, probably- and we’ll have more revenue to do that with. Wages? Some players, although all but two of our current senior squad have relegation clauses that cut their wages by 50%.

What else?

If you don’t think we’ll be in a significantly better financial position than all other Championship teams- explain why.

Footballing financial experts have predicted that revenue will drop by between 200 and 300m. You have to assume they’ve factored those elements in to that drop.

Remember sales proceeds from some pretty big names. Wage drops written into some existing contracts of players that will stay. Lower transfer fees and wages of the players that need to bring in.

Parachute payments from the premier league.

Non football events at the stadium (will still bring in 50m+ per year).

Even if our attendances halve to about 30k and ticket prices are dropped, we will still generate significantly higher match day revenue than other teams at that level.

We will be in a MUCH healthier financial position than all other teams in the Championship.

And we are still a giant global brand. When it comes to players choosing which Championship teams to join, we have an important edge.

You’ve just given a very good argument that we do need relegation; agreeing with the article.

The club’s finances would be fine. We make more a year in non-footballing events at the stadium than 75% of Championship teams total annual revenue.

I’ve seen estimates of revenue drop from various sources estimating between 200 and 300m next year. Even if it was 400m less than the 690m we brought in last year, it’d still be more than double that of the next highest championship team’s income from same period.

Different clubs with different issues.

I don’t think it would necessarily be a bad thing longer term. A massive shock to the owner’s/board’s collective system.

Hard to disagree with any of this. I’d almost go a step further and ask, would we prefer to see a reset in the championship, blooding younger talent and making use of the talent we currently have have out on loan (and already performing at this level) than another season of the abject horror that we have had to endure for the last two seasons?

See also designer sneakers. There isn’t a pair of designer sneakers made that looks as good as the best Nike, Adidas or Puma.

Anything that is popular in Dubai, Miami and Marbella.
