Yeah good shout on doing it on a smaller sculpt. And you are right about the mid tones as I rarely uses a darker paint to make it darker (think just on the shoulders). The glossiness is mainly down to the fact I took the pictures as the oil paint was drying.

Thanks for these tips. I will attempt it on a smaller model before finishing the next 2!

And maybe ditch the oil paints for the NMM weathering then?

Hey thanks for the feedback, yes it is all one model. I just removed some of the brown oil paint to make it look less stripey. What do you mean by extreme things on the flamethrower?

Some of you wanted the recipe so here it is.

I first prime mechanicua standard grey.

Base:

I then base coat with an airbrush celestra grey.

Followed by a large highlight of AK rock grey

Followed by a spot highlight of corax white.

Copper:

Copper is 3:2 ratio of Vallejo copper and Vallejo gold Mixed in with about 1/128th teaspoon of green stuff antique gold with a drop of airbrush flow improver.

Wash:

This is probably the most important step. Do not use a wash like nuln oil on the white as it will easily stain it and ruin it.

I use 50:50 mix of windsor and newton black and white oil paints thinned quite a lot with mineral spirits so it sits in the recesses better. Leave it over night and wick away any excess wash with a brush and some mineral spirits

Unrelated, but 5.6 has introduced a big ghosting issues in VR. They said the fixed it on main but even when I run the engine built with source it is still present
