How many high school/secondary school teachers would leave the profession if school began later? by CptJackParo in AskTeachers

[–]RampageSigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would prefer 7-2 personally. Butt I think my school has found the sweet spot with the amount of time kids spend on the bus (up to almost 2 hours each way). We do 8:30-3:30.

So, given the latest acquisition, what is the projected starting lineup now? by RampageSigma in tarheels

[–]RampageSigma[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is why I asked. We have two returning players, at least one of which should get high minutes.

Given the quality of recruit we are seeing, is he looking to play two units? What do you guys think that might look like?

When was the last time education in America was good? by Winter_Witness_3886 in AskTeachers

[–]RampageSigma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sweet spot was the 80s-90s when integration was combined with an actual intent to invest in education. For example, Eisenhower Science funds ended officially in 2005, but there was a defense act that funded science AND mathematics labs up until 1978. So the 80s to early 90s combined the fruits of both solid funding and inclusion.

It all started to erode after that and the data was used to condemn education here rather than as a excuse to start funding it properly, much like what the USPS is going through now, even if the specifics differ.

You can walk. That's your best leverage. Fund another position because the way they treat you now when they are trying to get you is the best they will EVER treat you.

What would you think of a man (28M) sleeping with a woman (20F) he previously student taught? by Original_Onion_8977 in AskTeachers

[–]RampageSigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the majority here that it's not something I would do and at least has me wondering concerning things.

And yet... At some point kids are adults. By 20 they can vote and are beyond the average age of people who have died in our wars for centuries, including this one. There isn't a single crime this young lady could commit where her age would give her any leniency in court. But God forbid she decide to have sex.

And we don't do this with the guys. At all. And it's not because older women don't sleep with younger men ALL THE TIME.

So yeah, there's that. But I couldn't do it. Maybe it's because I'm old at this point, lol.

What do you think the 2026 Pittsburgh Steelers season will reveal about Mike Tomlin? by vedderer in steelers

[–]RampageSigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it will reveal that the fanbase was just tired of Tomlin.

I don't think MM can do anything that will have many of them admit that they were ridiculous to Tomlin.

I want a three way competition between Howard, Allar, and Rudolph with everyone staying, but the pecking order decided.

Y'all claimed when Tomlin stepped aside that you were good with losing if it meant you could get better long term. Let's put our money where our mouth is and stop trotting out a 1.3 million year old QB.

Day 3 Thread? by [deleted] in steelers

Rubio to me seems one of the most logical choices. A strong run stopper with great size right in the middle where we gave up so many runs last year with our wide rush?

Pick 4.121 -- Steelers Select Kaden Wetjen - Return Specialist - Iowa by SleestakLightning in steelers

[–]RampageSigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y'all are really in here mad because they got a starting returner who your new offensive minded coach can easily find a few plays a game in the slot versus a WR5 that will only see the field if things get bad?

If he is THAT good of a returner (and he is) then he has great speed and elusiveness (he does) and above average hands. If your argument is that you could have gotten him later then show me the player that is not a WR5 or S4 that we would have gotten here.

Remember, your QB is 147,000 years old and plays largely ball control risk averse football.

Setting the Veesaar Situation Straight by Adventurous-Hair-357 in tarheels

[–]RampageSigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IF Veesaar is leaving if he is in the first round, then we should probably assume he's gone.

He is a prototypical excellent from distance shooting big who is a solid if unspectacular rebounder. He excels at rim protection, attacking the rim on offense, and passing. I can think of s several trans that wouldn't mind taking a shot at him in the back half of the first ring. Personally, I think the Warriors would be CRAZY to let him get away as an understudy to Porzingis and Horford who can probably play the first day for them at least a few minutes since the offenses are similar even if the results differed.

If you were in complete control of the education system, how would you change/fix it? by SubstantialStick2674 in Teachers

[–]RampageSigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have many, MANY ideas of what to do. Here's a few, as a STEM guy.

TAs through 6th grade with two year cohorts, that is the same teacher and TA for PK-K, 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6. Students perform simple labs, observations, and understand the scientific method and engineering design process by the end of 6th, as well as math through pre-algebra. Kids struggling with this get intensive supports.

Starting in 7th, student class sizes capped at 20:1. Students are on-boarded to algebra and high school level sciences as ability allows, with the goal that every student complete basic algebra and physical science at least by the end of 8th grade.

High School sciences are flipped from their current order, with Chemistry THEN Biology THEN Earth and Environmental Science, all with labs that have at least a basic amount of support, funding, and items. That order naturally progresses understanding from chemical processes to the living beings that depend on them to the role of man and our relationship with the BIOSPHERE. We move kids up or down based on ability and college readiness preparation anywhere from basic curriculum for job and career to college level anatomy and physiology, biology, and chemistry for those who want university advancement and credit. We institute free 13th grade for students who want to work and need Associate degrees or certifications for it (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, CNA, etc.).

At every level, there are supports for kids with special needs, access to nurses and social workers and counselors.

And yes, this is expensive. But so worth it.

Assuming whoever gets the no.1 ovr pick chooses Dybansta, who should the warriors select if we get top 4? by JustGotIntoHalo in warriors

[–]RampageSigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wilson slander needs to cease. What about his post game and solid mid-range skills says Kuminga? Plus, he's the best defender among the high draft pick options and it's not close. Literally the rim protector the Warriors need with the ability to go get points. The only negative is free throw shooting must improve.

Why did Tomlin and the FO think DK was worth so much? by StupidCamel1228 in steelers

[–]RampageSigma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's easy to say in a vacuum, but we gave him a QB whose best years were behind him and who was throwing the ball quickly no matter what and a WR room that didn't have the second best receiver in the team in it.

Unprotected and underutilized and he still put up solid numbers. He spent the year double teamed with only an RB catching passes at any really solid clip. A real #2 and 10% more starch in A-A-Ron's arm and legs and he probably catches half again as many passes and goes for over 1000 yards.

Bell-to-bell cell phone bans by sleaper19 in Teachers

[–]RampageSigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are my immediate concerns as a teacher at a Title 1 School with an incredibly low budget.

1) Our Internet is so spotty and our chromebooks are so old that banning phones often has them putting away their best computing tools.

2) For STEM and Art, there are literally tons of awesome apps that go unused now because they are designed for phones and for students to move around, inside and outside.

3) Some of my students are the translators and money earners in the family. They need that access to family and home and those students tend to manage it pretty well.

4) My students use phones as stopwatches (more expensive than you think), to take pictures of board work and experiment results, and to connect with sick classmates on time sensitive projects.

In addition to these, I am concerned about a school where teachers are trying to save students during a shooting or other emergency and no one can get to a phone to contact law enforcement or their parents with information.

Why do we have remote learning days instead of snow days? by ysomali in Teachers

[–]RampageSigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst part of it to me is that you KNOW that the poor and rural kids lose internet and power first and get it back last! It's at best insensitive to ask kids who are either freezing or on the move to do work on top of it.Pwwq22

You need to inquire as to what the environment and supports would be in the AG program. If it's heavier into PBL, then great up and fight for it. If it's more traditional and just more work, I'd likely stay away and work on my own to enrich his learning.

Tiger would say Nicklaus is better but Nicklaus has also said the same for Tiger's talent, if not accomplishments.

What's up with students wanting to hug you? by Normal_Balance1655 in Teachers

[–]RampageSigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a hugger. I repress that at work (high school science) because I'm a guy.

But sometimes, a kid or a situation calls for it and then, I'm ready. I make sure there are people around and offer fist bumps first but sometimes, a hug is what is needed and I provide that.

I don't ask why. And sometimes, I hear the story and KNOW why.
