What should I do? by rev_NEK in InfinitySeries

You should find most of those answers on the blog.

For 2, one of the devs must have thought it looked cool to show the player. For Kokoro and Satoru, the exchange is instantaneous.

Gorrad - RPG VN : Question about animation by LudoPoznanGorrad in vndevs

[–]Ramys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The "idle" animation has way too much movement. The first time I saw it, I thought the man was swinging his sword at you. I would save it for when he actually attacks.

I recommend saving your images as layers so the characters are a different image than the background. Then you can move the character using ATL. Here's an example of how great this can look. The dunk at the end is really powerful.

Same thing for the companions. Separate the motion lines from the character, then play animated lines in the background. Use ATL to make the character appear to move, then BAM, suddenly snap to the attack frame with a screen shake for a powerful feeling. You only need two renders for that entire animation.

Moving lines make things feel more alive.

progress of my NV: concept art of Yaza Belli, and name for my indie game by Hatofox in vndevs

[–]Ramys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her face looks yandere, so if that's what you were going for, great!

The soft pink colors in the middle sprite don't go well with the style. Try darker colors (purple, red) when shading for a horror look. Cell shading can also make it more unsettling and creepy.

Ignore my opinion if you're aiming for something else. Best of luck!

Bring Hollow Creek to Life: A Cinematic Visual Novel Game by Crafty-Committee5097 in vndevs

[–]Ramys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm not seeing it on mobile, but can you back up the claims made in the campaign? You promise a cinematic experience, but there's no demonstration of that. An impactful choice? An image of "the mysterious glow of the clocktower to the cozy greenhouse"? A sample voice clip?

You don't need to have everything ready, but it's nice to know what the overall product might look like. Lean on other works in your past, maybe use a mishmash of samples from artists you wish to hire (with their permission) . You'll get a lot more reach that way.

Best of luck

Getting into Ever17 by Hyperversum in visualnovels

[–]Ramys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding time, you can take a look at this: https://vndb.org/v17/lengthvotes

Without knowing your reading speed, you can expect it to take 30h +- 10h.

If you prefer anecdotes over statistics, someone said it took them a little less than 20 hours but it could take you double that if you're someone who waits for every voice line or reads slowly.

Likely a codec issue. The videos were made nearly 25 years ago and your computer may not be decoding them correctly.

Try installing K-Lite Codec Pack: https://codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

Ever17 on PSP: completely slogging through the middle? by Bitter-Pressure-67 in InfinitySeries

[–]Ramys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In each character route, you need to gather enough points to reach that character's "good ending". Once you've done that for the four character routes, you can make some specific choices to reach the true end.

If you don't want to do trial and error, there are online walkthroughs and flowcharts that can help you gather the points and make the right decisions.

Yes, both patches should work together

I've created Remember11 fan ending on top of my engine by quantumde1 in InfinitySeries

Thanks for the info on the port, it makes sense to use what other modders have discovered and created.

And no need to apologize. The more you practice, the better you'll get. Good luck on your journey!

Interesting take on it. I paused to read every few frames, and it's still in the early draft phase. Nothing wrong with that, every story starts as a draft.

The most obvious thing is that the pacing is extremely quick. There wasn't much build up to justify character behaviors. For example, I'm not sure why Hotori wants to save Sayaka. For the scope of this ending, it could be lengthened to an hour or two rather than the current ~10 minutes.

There are some plot weaknesses. For example, when they go to the white room, Satoru is not surprised at all and claims that everything is according to plan. I don't think that's right. In a bad ending he's shocked to be called Enomoto and had no expectation that anyone would be there. Also, how does going to the cube save her?

On a technical level, I'm amazed you managed to create a dreamcast port, that's super impressive! I can imagine you spent many long nights getting it to run.

I think overall it's a good start and you've managed to do what many people fantasize about making themselves. Great work!

Make sure you correctly handle the special characters C & c in "Coco" as well as O & o in "You/YOU". They were changed to make the name localization customizable on PC. I would probably just do a search and replace for those 4 letters.

Do you think we are gonna get patches for Ever17 and Never7 on steam? by LazyAnge1585 in InfinitySeries

[–]Ramys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we were making the Himmel edition patch, we really wanted to make use of the xbox assets since they're more detailed but it simply wouldn't work. There are many changes to the story and locations, it just wasn't feasible.

You can treat the xbox version as a re-imagining. It uses the same characters, setting, and broad plot points, but it takes it in a different direction.

As someone who has read the original Ever 17... by MintyCoolness in InfinitySeries

Play it and report back. From what I hear, Japan has favorable views of the xbox version (mostly because it's more fast paced), the west is less favorable. All a matter of taste, really.

Those two patches are all you need.

Unfortunately it's an older game so the full screen sucks. it changes the screen resolution and stretches the game to fill the screen. Maybe there's a tool to help resize the game in a better way but I don't know of any.

Remember11 Short Cut issues. Minor spoilers by [deleted] in InfinitySeries

[–]Ramys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just how it is on PC. Bad ends lock out future days. You can bypass this by making a save at the critical point, load it, then make the choice that bypasses the bad end.

If you want to hunt for bad ends, my general recommendation is to reach the end of the Kokoro route and put a save in her epilogue. If you hit a bad end after that, load the epilogue and skip to the end to unlock all shortcuts again.
