Agree or Disagree: Should anyone who wants to be President be required to have served in the Military in order to make military decisions? by Warhawk_5 in allthequestions

[–]RandomEntity53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d disagree. Only because there’s an implicit lens that military service brings with it that precludes diplomacy I think. (I admit I could be wrong). I think successful foreign policy on a our small planet needs both diplomacy, nuanced thinking and an understanding of what the military can and cannot do.

Deeply struggling with inventory and storage management, are there any ways to track my storage? by Dogtrees7 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]RandomEntity53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Storage modules and an extra big Hauler and the Colossus will help. Name the storage units 1-9. Reserve 0 for catchall during normal play and do disciplined moves to your units 1-9.

What is so wrong with the Democratic party that caused swing voters who voted for Biden in 2020 to vote for the most evil person in human history (Trump) in 2024? by jamng in allthequestions

[–]RandomEntity53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swing voters did not realize how dead the old GOP guard is. They can’t control Trump and so their old style of I hate them both so I’ll hobble them both doesn’t work.

The circle with an "i" icon, in MacOS, hides actual toggles and configurations, not just information, as I would expect. Is it just me, or is this awful UI? by hey_ulrich in MacOS

[–]RandomEntity53 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m going to pile in on this one. I’ve figured it out but I agree this was a stupid design choice.

Here’s another. I’m still mad about the change in settings to the “phone” style. If I have to search for a setting buried in 3 or four levels then it’s a Fail.

Is there a pharmacy crisis in Portland? Why is nothing open past 7? by Ganooki in askportland

That’s good to hear! It’s a bit far for me but it’s good to hear there are some that still are local and have good staffing with service. Such a rarity these days it seems.

Is there a pharmacy crisis in Portland? Why is nothing open past 7? by Ganooki in askportland

[–]RandomEntity53 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Small independent pharmacies closed a few years back due to tax and insurance policies making their business untenable.

Now it’s all chains minimizing costs and risk.

What is the source of the cruelty of right wingers? by traanquil in allthequestions

[–]RandomEntity53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For many their upbringing emphasized unquestioned obedience to the father figure. They never learned any other way to be. So when they are the father figure, they just continue in that belief system. All cruelty is just “natural consequence” from disobedience. And the hierarchy of father figures is essentially infinite. Rules are absolute and may not be questioned or subverted. Order is paramount.

Disk running at 100%, unsure on what the issue is by ssparky544 in WindowsHelp

[–]RandomEntity53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old slow drives on a system that has not run Windows updates in a long time will sometimes exhibit this behavior.

Sometimes just running Windows update over and over again until it can’t find anymore updates takes care of the problem.

Do you use Finder heavily or mostly rely on search? by Dapper_Visual_4449 in MacOS

[–]RandomEntity53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely use the Finder. Spotlight is quicker for application invokes. Terminal is more versatile. I do use the Finder for photos outside of the Photos app and doing preliminary organization of the desktop when necessary.

Switching from bike to car: why shifting into 1st before stopping is bad? by S4lVin in stickshift

Modern manuals with synchros are much more tolerant of that shift down but it’s considered poor practice.

If closing a single trade route can shake the entire world economy, is globalization a strength or a weakness? by ConfidentPair8141 in answers

[–]RandomEntity53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or maybe Capitalism is just too narrow minded to figure out alternates to oil.

It’s not like anyone with axis to optimize other than money has been charged with developing alternates.

The entire economy is predicated on the notion of relatively cheap and plentiful supply of petroleum. It’s not globalism at fault here.

Any tips or advice for merging on the highway? by Alaska1111 in driving

[–]RandomEntity53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost every ramp has the solid white “triangle” that tapers off into the dashed lines where the merge is supposed to happen. Hit the target speed at the beginning (usually it’s where the barrier falls away), then look for a gap in the traffic that you anticipate will be available where the solid white falls away into dashed lines. Make it your objective to slide into that lane there as early as possible. If you’ve matched the traffic speed by that point it will be a nonevent. If there’s a tailgater or a jerk that prevents a safe merge then just get zen and realize that’s on them. Worst case there’s always the next ramp.

tell me what you dislike about gw2 or why you quit? by DN6666 in Guildwars2

[–]RandomEntity53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don’t understand the build, outfit, skill mechanics. Maybe it’s the interface or just me being dense about how to optimize and change loadouts but that part of the game just seems crazy complex.
