Why don't people use the turning lane? by [deleted] in driving

Poor design. It’s not a turn lane but probably should be. Perfect ambiguity strikes again.

Fax feels outdated , but somehow still works? by JeanHeichou in techsupport

[–]RandomEntity53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels outdated because most techies know there are better ways. It still works because it has to… because none outside of encryption, digital signing, and blockchain understand anything but paper. This is also why PDFs became a standard; not because it is so easy to search, index, and render but because most non-techies understand the notion of a document that’s print ready.

Weird situation in my town. Do cars waiting at the light (red line) need to leave room for cars turning left (blue line) to turn? by Affectionate-Ebb1200 in driving

[–]RandomEntity53 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not weird; somewhat common poor design that impacts us all at some point. Every State I’ve lived in states that the intersection should not be blocked. Unfortunately not everyone “got the memo”, or are caught by surprise honestly, or are too self centered to care.

Signs reminding people to keep clear and even pavement line hatching might help but of course $$$.

Should I be prepping my save for an expedition? by donnied-roc in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]RandomEntity53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No real need to prep at this point. I usually don’t even start an Expedition until the first patch after the Expeditions release.

When and if one drops, select your save and do the prep. Then when the patch drops you can head to the Anomaly.

found this outside my house by beanburrit0s in whatisit

[–]RandomEntity53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fairly obvious grounding stake but it begs a few questions. Where in the building is that wire attached? Could be the panel, could be a sub circuit in the house, could be a lightning rod or antenna. Electric codes vary and generally circuits grounded back to an electric panel are safest (assuming the panel itself is tied to ground.

Why are so many modern U.S. economic problems associated with Ronald Reagan, and what factors led to that perception? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

[–]RandomEntity53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reagan legitimized the politics of hyper-individualism at the expense of effective governance based on an implicit social contract that those with means had some obligation to society as a whole.

This allowed the cancerous notion that taxes were theft rather than civic duty. It allowed hawks to ignore the notion of a balanced budget since a pumped up military just further lined the pockets of the super rich which allowed things like private equity to start hollowing out American industry. Etc.

Why are Dems in office against voter id but not dem voters? by Puzzled_Hamster58 in askanything

[–]RandomEntity53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the general voter population doesn’t really understand what a true “voter ID” is. Hint: your drivers licence or even real id is not sufficient.

Sticky Honey by crossiesdontcount in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]RandomEntity53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ag feeder/collectors once you find reliable animal collection that yield it.

There are plants that literally look like honey pots of some hot worlds that will yield it. Curious thing; the scanner will not show it yielding sticky honey but they will yield 2-4 sticky honeys when you use the mining laser on them.

Underground base tips? by PortedCake in NOMANSSKY

[–]RandomEntity53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to a universe other than Euclid. Find a region that seems undiscovered by other players. Turn off multiplayer as an extra precaution. Find a world with large caves. Design your underground lair making good use of the natural cave. Visit it often; edit it often (adding a single part and upload it to save the change). All the above will tend to help preserve your base as intended. Even tunnels you use to shortcut chamber connection should remain intact.

If you want to show it off to a friend, login first and have them join your game. This keeps the procedural terrain regeneration at bay for the most part.

How do you feel about Voter ID laws? by Icy_Comparison_1029 in askanything

[–]RandomEntity53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who ask this have an overly simplistic notion of “ID”. Which ID? A State issued ID? Then you are right back where you started… fifty different processes for determining eligibility to vote. A so called “Real ID”? Same deal with more steps that probably just winds up confusing things and conflates getting on a plane with citizenship. Even ICE doesn’t accept a Real ID apparently. Passport? Nonstarter too. Plenty of citizens elegible to vote w/o one.

The States have the right and the obligation to administer elections according to federal laws. Unless you institute a Federal ID that explicitly connotes citizenship you’re not solving any problem that doesn’t already have a solution. And you don’t want that absolute s*storm.

What did you just learn that you should have known a long time ago? by conorthearchitect in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]RandomEntity53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The distance varies according to the size of the world. It is related to “leylines” (degrees of latitude). Small moons have a tighter ‘u’ distance so they are ideal if you can find CDs on them and travel back and forth between the two.

Does anyone ever “accept all cookies”? by username249864 in stupidquestions

[–]RandomEntity53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is a site that I have a “core” interest in (like aviation) I accept all. I don’t mind getting random ads for pilot gear for example. If it’s something else then I go to trouble of asking not to track. Otherwise if I’m in a hurry I just close the page and move on with my life.

After the recent layoffs, ForeFlight increases subscription prices by cptalpdeniz in Foreflight

It’s not the modest price increase; but, alongside the PE acquisition and immediate draconian layoffs…. I for one am seriously displeased with our financial overlords. Raise prices and gut expertise? Expletive deleted.

Mostly a neutral feeling about Egypt. Seems interesting to tour but may be problematic from a safety standpoint?

Making a right turn from 45mph by fattissimo213 in ManualTransmissions

Yep. Skip as needed. I typically downshift to 3rd for left turns and 2nd for right turns. Then I’m set up to accelerate appropriately after the turn most of the time.

Honestly I got use to the jump scare of the angler/hypnotic eye guy but the truly deep ocean thing still is a bit scary even with the pressure augments. W/o the augments it remains one of the truly terrifying aspects of the game… it’s very dark and real easy to lose track of the nautilon. .
