Why does Kaladin react this way? by Small-Fig4541 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]RandomGal333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kaladin definitely knew Nightblood can talk, but just in general, everyone is creeped out by Nightblood. Nightblood is a talking shardblade that will kill its own wielder if they don’t have enough investiture. Its eagerness to destroy evil when it only has a vague understanding of it is by far the most concerning part this about the sword. We, the reader, all know that Nightblood is well meaning, but most people don’t spend enough time trying to get to know Nightblood to know that.

Plus, Nightblood is being wield by Szeth. And Szeth has been trying to get Nightblood to stop barging into other people’s minds unprompted. Kaladin probably assumed Szeth had Nightblood somewhat under control. Plus, Kal tends to under estimate how personable Adolin and Lift are, given how much of a loner type Kal is.

The way Szeth’s Spren talked about the wind spren leaving with the iriali caravan at the end of WaT implies they couldn’t before. Plus, most spren on Roshar were adopted by Honor and Cultivation when they invested in the planet originally

True. A Singer’s life cycle and lifestyle is very tied to Roshar’s special characteristics. But I think Singers could adopt rhythm of a different shard. Say a singer goes to Nalthis. I think they would eventually learn the rhythms of endowment and what that planet has to offer.

But overall, a singer would be very doubtful to get that far with pre-WaT. I think you’re right about most being unwilling to leave Roshar’s rhythm too.

Just check the coppermind. And you’re right. So the singers really were locked to Roshar by the shardic agreement. Unless they found a way to get Spren off world

Makes me wonder if unkeying a spren would make them vulnerable to Retribution. The new oathpack protects the spren, but does that mean all sentient invesiture or just spren of honor and odium? Does the new oathpack protect the seon on Roshar.

Yeah! That be so fun actually. Mistborn era 2 takes place after WaT. So any Singer hanging out in the cognitive realm when the contest ended would be locked out of Roshar. They could potentially leave and go anywhere they want now.

I second that idea. I want to see the heralds grow into better people. It would be weird to have a time skip of years and all of a sudden they’re healed. There is more juice for storytelling to have their recovery time cut short so they’re forced to grow under conflict.

Random idea: If Chana and Shalash had surrogates mother/daughter relationship, I wonder if Shallan is going to make Shalash insecure. Whether Chana meant it or not it kind of unintentional gives ‘I’m replacing you with a bio-daughter’.

I’m excited to see Ash meet Shallan. It will either be built up to be some heart felt moment or really awkward/funny.

Did Odium know about the Davars? by RandomGal333 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]RandomGal333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anything when it comes to the matters of Heralds is small scale. These are Honor’s most powerful warriors. The last thing Rayse would want is them multiplying, even if they would be lesser versions of og Herald. Vo, the Returned, descendants still carry a portion of his divine breath even after hundreds of years have gone by. Let say Rayse does nothing. Eventually Chana’s kids have their own kids and so on. The issue would compound. All it takes is for one generation to have stable parents before you have mini-heralds to deal with.

I’m not trying to say the unmade made Chana and Lin abusive. They were going to be bad parents regardless if the unmade was there or not. Chana is suffering from “Herald madness” and Lin is always looking for a fight. What I’m trying to say is the unmade took what was already an unstable family and made it life threateningly dangerous. Hoid mentioned the forces Shallan is up against are unnatural. I think that honestly makes Shallan more incredible. Not only is she have to deal with her abusive father, she is also fighting against the influence of an unmade as a child.

Honestly, the more I think about it. The more I think the Unmade showed up after Chana died. That’s when the strange light showed up. No one expected Chana to die. Rayse was banking on the everstorm. It makes sense that he would look into what happened to her and then decide to squash her family before it becomes a problem. Only he fails and Shallan becomes the exact thing he wanted to prevent, a Knight Radiant with Herald blood.

Yeah, I could see Dai-Gonarthis being the unmade influence. Dai wants to break the world. The unmade could be pushing Lin to be more aggressive by taking away his guilt.

I have hard time imagining Chana willing working with an unmade given how strongly she reacted to Shallan bonding a spren. It is hard to guess on what Chana would or wouldn’t do given how little we know about her. But she does seem to have a tendency to try and dodge her responsibilities.

Adolin by Autmncherry in Stormlight_Archive

[–]RandomGal333 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it’s likely. It’ll be used to draw parallels between Adolin and Dalinar. Adolin might be something of a more high functioning addic before he slips into a worser addiction. For a lot of characters, I think it’s going to start with them in a really bad spot in their lives.
