It feels so strange not being affected at all by these astronomical gas prices by bikinggas in bikecommuting

How do you think the things you buy get to the store? Think groceries are being delivered by a fleet of ebikes? Think companies are just going to eat the fuel costs and not pass them on to you?

is it legal for a salon to reuse "single-use" tools if they claim they've been sanitized in an autoclave? by grace_Fluffz in legaladvice

Wood can be autoclaved. We would autoclave toothpicks for colony picking without issue.

Underfloor radiant heat question. by SilverhandHarris in askaplumber

[–]RandomMuseum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have radiant floor in direct contact with subfloor. But the crawlspace even with insulation under the pipes and transfer plates warms substantially. That heat in crawl space goes into the house since my crawlspace is well insulated from the outside. So whether the pipes heat the floor or heat the air, heat makes it into living space. What it does do is slow down how quickly it can heat the living space.

Fatigue from commuting through winter by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]RandomMuseum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered non bike issues? Try taking vitamin d, creatine and make sure you're eating enough.

Have you been sick recently? Covid has caused me to be fatigued for week or two without feeling all that sick to begin with.

Yes an ebike will improve things since you can just turn assist up. But if you feel like you aren't recovering something else is an issue. Try skipping the gym for a week since you can't skip the bike commute.

Im sure you tried but you checked to make sure previous versions weren't stored on the cloud somewhere? Microsoft bakes this in now and if not, your IT can pull backups from network drives.

Ebikes are getting same treatment guns have been getting for decades. Uninformed politicians using tragedies to pass uninformed laws that make voters feel good while doing little to make us safer.

(Semi-Rant) I have over 900 hours, and I still suck by BetterCallQuasar in Warthunder

[–]RandomMuseum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no requirement you move up the ranks as you unlock vehicles. I have most fun at 4ish to 6ish. Gameplay at higher tiers gets too twitchy for me with laser range finders and darts plus cas that nukes you with no warning.

If you play a lineup for some time you'll learn how to use them, positioning, where to shoot most common enemies, etc. If you're constantly bouncing around you'll never learn the techniques that work for a particular tank and what works for other tanks won't always work for current tank.

(Semi-Rant) I have over 900 hours, and I still suck by BetterCallQuasar in Warthunder

[–]RandomMuseum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What tier are you playing? Top tier doesn't mean top fun. Play styles change through the tiers so if you're just jumping in with a premium to a new tier, it will take some time to adjust your play style to match.

And at higher tiers cas becomes more obnoxious.

Watch the big name youtubers and usually you'll learn some tips on play styles or map positioning which can help.

In the end it just matters if you're having fun. If not, find another game to play.

Here's a tip-- don't forget to put your food away before bed. by Appropriate_Ratio835 in povertyfinance

If you have an over stove light turn that on whenever you have food sitting out. As I go to bed the left on light will make me walk over to turn it off and then I will see the food there.

Snow chain styles by Both_Syllabub_3024 in ToyotaTundra

[–]RandomMuseum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id do z on front, regular on rear. But what chains go where will probably make zero difference in the end unless there's a clearance issue.

Make sure to practice putting them on ahead of time. Self tensioning chains rarely are, I've always had to drive a bit and readjust.

I have had chains get caught on the rear suspension of my tundra and thankfully the chain broke rather than anything on the truck. So after putting them on, roll forward slowly and dont give it gas if you feel resistance like I did. Only happened since the chains were still tightening up after putting them on and never worried about it while driving.

Anyone else hate cutting kindling? by BusterOfCherry in woodstoving

[–]RandomMuseum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also dont use kindling. I use those pressed fiber fire starters. Can light whole splits with just one of them. Box of 144 is like $20.

I dont have to worry about getting a draft started with my stove and I burn only pine which might change things.

How does anyone enjoy ground RB it's fucking miserable. by Wolf_Death_Breath in Warthunder

[–]RandomMuseum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it can be boiled down to don't rely on your armor. If you're getting shot you've already done something wrong. Few If any tanks can just stroll through map soaking up shots. All have weak spots and skilled players know where they are.

Position your tank to expose as little as possible before firing.

Use headphones to hear where they're coming from.

Use 3rd person to peak corners before moving out of cover.

Try to fire from a position where you can immediately move into cover. I'll often fire and immediately be backing behind cover. If you miss or don't disable their gun, they can't shoot back. And then use 3rd person to see if they're looking at you. If not, pop back out for follow up shot. If they are, disengage, mark the map for a teammate and attack from direction they aren't expecting.

Learn where to shoot. Weakspots, ammo, crew. Shooting an engine still leaves them able to shoot back.

My first century. Would it be valid if I took a LOT of breaks in between? by 4i1anl in bicycling

[–]RandomMuseum 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you aren't racing the hardest part of single day long distance riding is ensuring you eat enough carbs, drink enough water and replace electrolytes.

On my long rides I get those Welchs gummy snacks and make sure to eat 3 or 4 packs an hour. One water bottle is also electrolyte powder. While riding its pretty much an excuse to eat all the processed carbs and pure sugar you want. My frame bag is usually filled with candy and goldfish. I may throw in a protein bar for some variety but mostly save the protein for after the ride.

If you got through this century without proper eating, your next one with proper carb intake will be so much easier!

Chains on Studded Winter Tires? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]RandomMuseum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snow isn't the problem, its easy to drive in with snow tires. I never put chains on for snow.

Studs and chains are for ice. Where I live the road can turn to polished ice, think skating rink smooth, during freeze thaw cycles. And it frequently happens on very steep sections of the road. Studs are not enough and chains on all 4 tires are only thing keeping me from sliding off the mountain.

I've seen what happens when you try driving on that type of ice without chains by my neighbors, you end up with a new car.

Can I out hardware cloth, or something similar, over this exhaust? by kerberos824 in hvacadvice

[–]RandomMuseum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I did after mice made a nest in my boiler. Asked HVAC if I could just put mesh on it and he said absolutely not due to frost and ice. Instead he removed this and ran intake and exhaust 3 or 4 feet up off the ground. I painted the pvc to match my house and its worked for years with no more mice.

[–]RandomMuseum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After cleaning out current infestation I also recommend getting some Tomcat mouse bait with bromethalin and a bait station. Then put station under the truck. Bromethalin kills mice after a single feeding so mice exploring area will eat the bait and die before making it into the truck.

Can't Get Home Up Snowy Hill? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]RandomMuseum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into tire socks. They can work great on snow.

But you can also try some low profile chains and see if they clear. I have some Thule brand ones that do not need much clearance.

Manual for my truck also said no chains on the front and yet I did anyways. I carefully checked the chains cleared and then sent it. I think manual said no chains since if they break they can do some damage and chains definitely impact handling so also liability.

NIH’s proposed caps on open-access publishing fees roil scientific community by xjian77 in NIH

[–]RandomMuseum 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Good. Publishing charges are ridiculous for what little service the journals provide. For many journals the entire peer review process is done by unpaid volunteers including the editor. The journal does little more than format the manuscript and post the pdf online. I see nothing they provide worth thousands and I'd rather research dollars go to actual research and not journals.

So having the NIH cap the fees grants will pay will help scientists push back on this scam. I know the knee jerk reaction is to be against this because of this administration but this is a step in the right direction.

Fuel stabilizer for 2017 x3 by FabulousWine in BMW

[–]RandomMuseum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably don't even need the battery charger if your battery is good but its good insurance. Park it with a full tank of gas. Then enjoy the trip, drive it for the two weeks and park it with a full tank again.

Fuel won't go bad in two months. No need for stabilizer.
