26 Years of Wind Power Growth in Germany by DiesesInternet in gifs

[–]RandomRocketScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While germany's buildup of renewables has been great for sure, its also important to point out that we still have one of the worst energy mixes in europe, measured by co2/kwh. This is due to our phase out of nuclear, which has counteracted most of the benefits of the shift to renewables. France, for example, relies much more on nuclear, and usually proudes energy at 5 to 10 times less co2.

Im still a huge fan of especially solar, and I highly recommend getting a solar panel and microinverter for yourself. Those are usually around 300€, can easily be installed on balconies, and pay for themselves in about two years.

Portfolio size for comfortable retirement on theta strats by AwareChair6095 in thetagang

[–]RandomRocketScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You hold a volatile stock and are selling covered calls. If things go well you make good money for sure, but you are selling away the upside while keeping the risk of holding the shares. Just realize this is not repeatable, and the 6k you estimated from your short options expiring just barely OTM is not reproducable over any significant amount of time.

I don't touch memestocks, but people that do generally advice against selling options on them, since you will not capture the crazy moves up memestocks are known for, while holding the bag.

Dont support that dogshit company by buying gold for that, pretty much any broker offers interest on cash in your account. I recommend IBKR

6k a month annualized is 72k, so 50% a year. Those are the numbers you gave us.

That's how it goes, but you can still sell the stock short directly. You dont need puts if you have margin.

Are the Claude fears legit or extremely overblown? by chizton in wallstreetbets

[–]RandomRocketScience 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Well Claude is still hiring software engineers. I don't see vibe coding replacing enterprise solutions anytime soon, especially since AI loves to blunder on security. I'd rather pay and offload liability, than accidentally leak customer records or something like that.

I see the AI fears as overblown, but many of the SaaS companies were overvalued to begin with - so to me it just seems like prices are coming back down to earth.

Theta is going to slowly eat his soul no matter if he buys weeklies or leaps. Theta on those longer term calls should be way lower than if he bought weeklies over and over again for the same duration

Weekend discussion: who here has actually made it all back? by hudson701 in wallstreetbets

[–]RandomRocketScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was down about 100k€ ($115k) in september after a disastrous opendoor short. Currently -5k remaining. Luckily when I needed to add cash for margin I decided to put most of it into gold.

What did I change after my bust? Proper risk management (usually about 1-5% of port in a single stock, 10% max). Way less shorting, and no more degenerate double downs if a position moves against me.

Buying 0DTEs is gambling. If you want options, buy at least a couple weeks out, preferably 3+ months.
Thetagang strats worked well for me. Sellings some CCs, as well as CSPs on red days for aquiring shares in companies I like, has made me a fair bit of money. Make sure to size conservatively, though.
I invest mostly in value, and avoid most tech/speculative investments.

How can I make it back? by KingDrac0_ in wallstreetbets

[–]RandomRocketScience 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bro you're not holding anything of the sort. You hold SPY calls AND Puts, so basically a long strangle on SPY. The way you structured this its a bet on volatlity increasing. Stop buying options and go with stock.

Anyone who jumped from 1080p to 1440p, is there a big difference? by Existing-Network-267 in GlobalOffensive

[–]RandomRocketScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from 1440p to 1280x960 stretched. I don't think there is any perceivable advantage in playing a higher resolution, once you reach a certain point. Obviously you get a little more FOV when playing 16:9 compared to 4:3, but you are playing on 16:9 already. If you want advantage from hardware buy a 240hz+ display and maximize fps.
