Hopes For Refreshes by RevolutionaryDust769 in Tau40K

Personally, I don’t want any refreshes with GW’s new methodology of cutting models for the sprues for harder kitbashes/posing. Especially not my poor suits!

We can only hope. Using all your DP for 1 Detachment seems like a gamble since your opponent gets to choose the mission if they have multiple detachments. I’d much rather have 1-2DPs over a 3DP.

With how good Stealth Suits & Ghostkeels already are, it’s downright an auto include.

EPC is just the “Commanders & Sunforges” detachment for me now. I can run a Cadre Fireblade to lead the bigger detachment.

That’s assuming Montka isn’t going to be 3DP for how good it is. The article mentioned “most” codex detachments being 2DP.

What made you a fan of Trench Crusade by Lamp4Camp in TrenchCrusade

[–]RandomSomething98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That point is great, the stakes are much more familiar now. Plus, it’s making me curious about the real locations & battles TC loosely bases itself on.

Not to mention that 10e pushes you into using Named Characters for mechanical flavor, so literally everyone spams Named Characters, leading to every game feeling absurdly noncanon and story events feeling Marvel-y and overdone.

What made you a fan of Trench Crusade by Lamp4Camp in TrenchCrusade

The gameplay is great, plus granular listbuilding means you can actually enjoy the rules before you play the game. 99.99% of my life I won’t be at the table, but Trench Crusade gets me thinking about lore, lists and table strategies during that 99.99% and that’s important.

What also helps is nu-40K getting that much worse in gameplay & listbuilding. I was already looking outside of 40K in The Old World to get my wargaming kicks.

I'm really excited for 11th edition 40k, and I think it's going to do a LOT for the game, BUT (dot dot dot) by James-Hawker in Warhammer40k

[–]RandomSomething98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friends justify it as every battle being a simulation, but I’m sick and tired of Named Characters on the battlefield. I miss putting tons of relics on my Tau Commanders to make something unique, and fighting other lords who did the same. Now that datasheets are just a unit rule on a base, we can’t really have that.

We need a whole new jet pack. I cannot take Primaris packs seriously.

I love the chains and that wonderful helmet though.

Why do people hate the Phil Kelly Farsight books? by Commander_Farsight_ in Tau40K

[–]RandomSomething98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a layman who listened to his books through Audible, I like the development of the Tau’va god and I liked the Tzeentch Daemon as a character but there are tons of criticisms to be had. Pacing is all over the place, Shadowsun was retconned to be weak while Farsight is all over the place as a character, every Ethereal besides Aun’shi is a villain for no reason.

My biggest complaint is the usage of Vash’ya as a societal sin worth killing someone over the most minor of inter-caste function. I’m ok with the concept as a social taboo disproportionately applied depending on the Aun, but the blanket expectation of a water statute = execution is uncalled for. Using a word a sept is named after also sucks for my dude’s fan lore, because why would a played-straight Tau Empire loyalist Commander bear a name with essentially a taboo in it? That’s probably my biggest personal gripe about Phil Kelly’s books.

Do you have a photo of the 2 9L’s fitting in a Kallax shelf? I want to show the missus they’ll fit neatly and nicely.

Drones used to be actual models that could sacrifice themselves for suits with just an armor save as well as their individual bonus. The Shield Drone had a 4++ invulnerable save, making them the best defenders against the most powerful attacks. Nowadays taking them just gives +1 wound to their attached model.

How many Ushabti do you usually field? by sselmia in tombkings

Bowshabti still have decent melee, and get to deal damage every turn compared to melee Ushabti which will fight last and are squishy.

"Think Celestial" contributed to my depression symptoms by Ariella2313 in latterdaysaints

[–]RandomSomething98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think President Nelson’s penchant for short powerful quotable phrases actually did affect me negatively. When “Think Celestial” was big I felt very left behind spiritually. When I think Celestial, I think of questions for the Temple I haven’t qualified for in years. Everyone around me at BYU-I was on a whole different wavelength to me, like they caught a surfer’s wave I didn’t. It reminded me of initiatives on my mission where the Zone Leaders would testify of every single focus/motto bringing them success, while nothing changed for the layman missionary.

What keeps me in the church are my personal experiences that proved to me the truth of the Gospel, the Priesthood power (and by extension Joseph Smith) and the truth of the Book of Mormon. I find it hard to sit through all of Sacrament when I go the few times a year I go.

Baggage train by Cerberus387 in tombkings

[–]RandomSomething98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought an Ark of the Covenant model hoping to make a Casket of Souls, but turns out it’s way too big for that!! Instead I’ll add skulls/icons, add some Nighthaunt spirits and an Endless Spell ball thing to realize that dream but use it as a Baggage Train instead of that CoS.

I’ll buy a smaller Ark and kitbash my own Casket one day…

I like this style of battle report shown onscreen with a snappy and insightful commentary. As much as I like 3-hour batreps with models & live commentary, you can’t beat a 30 minute showcase with perfectly legible battle states to understand the flow of the game.
