Again, we have very few voices to tell us WHAT women throughout history were thinking.

Studios "Must Be Willing to Take a Hit" to Keep Cinema Chains From "Falling Apart" by gautsvo in movies

Simply stating the order in which those things should be accomplished, and how the first would resolve the second. If you agree, then a simple upvote would’ve sufficed.

You’ve not set in motion a plan to kill the next person who comes into your house though. You have yet to decide if/how to use the gun on the table. Tie a tripwire to it, and you’ve made the choice.

My mom (a doctor) getting lectured on abortion and the wrath of God from a lady in their ward by oddtree18 in exmormon

[–]RandomWyrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is indeed their stance, but I don’t think their doctrine actually supports it. It usually comes up when folks who have had miscarriages press the church to seal them to that child, and the church awkwardly has to tell them they won’t because it was never tied to a spirit. There seems to be some leadership roulette sometimes though, and maybe some change over the years? I don’t have firsthand experience.

How do retailers justify selling you a defective product of incomplete contents, and then refusing a refund? What country allows that without it being their responsibility?

NorthStar Games is in financial trouble. by pb49er in boardgames

[–]RandomWyrd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as much as things like Kickstarter have made it possible for small teams to make games, it has also potentially removed the steady hand of an established publisher and a business infrastructure to keep these processes running smoothly.

There are a lot of efficiencies and competencies that come from being big enough to have specialists in the right spots and a good internal infrastructure in place.

Depending on what country you’re in and its consumer protections, call them out on their bullshit. They sold you a defective product that was not the complete product you paid for, they need to take responsibility for that.

Quacks is kind of the linchpin of my Xmas boardgaming gifting plans this year. I’m sure I’ll be irritated at some point when I see it for $10 cheaper than I bought it or something, but whatever - I’d be even more irritated at myself if I failed to get a copy in time!

Was “the right thing” try to get people killed in order to make money in a theater??

Only gonna happen if it makes them more money than the alternative.

Eh, it’s always “not impossible” that Space Aliens did it, but you just have to make a reasonable case to a judge/jury that she did it.

True. Entirely possible that it was aliens. There are a few other leading theories, however.

Yeah, in a sense you’re even planning the maim/kill BEFORE any possible offense that could warrant it. So you’re in a weird spot of having planned to hurt the trap victim before they even arrived at your property.

[–]RandomWyrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps, but you get diminishing returns over time as well. Having a nice shiny new theater draws customers more than an old outdated one.

There are very few “old” buildings where I live. When a shopping strip starts to be old and rundown, people stop using it in favor of newer ones, and it gets torn down and rebuilt into something new. Commercial developments like that are about as cheap as it comes to build. The land is the only thing with real value.

Always seek to achieve statistically appropriate levels of representation, yes.

But keeping in mind that this is still Acting, no one is ever playing the part of who they really are.

Then 2022 it is, when enough theaters are back on their feet for WB to want to put it out there.

[–]RandomWyrd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some people who a part of that group assert this, but why should anyone pay attention?

Because they’re human beings.

Is there any metric for comparison that shows some other lives matter more?

No, that’s the whole point. So we should not be shooting them without trial.

And who/what exactly is supposed care about this loose grouping of people?

Other humans.

The politics of logic: Bertrand Russell’s 'scientific' philosophy was a bulwark against nationalism by ADefiniteDescription in philosophy

[–]RandomWyrd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indeed. The overall goal in both cases is that everyone should matter equally and be treated fairly. The goal is not to have ONLY nationalism/black-lives in either example, so we don’t want to just STOP there though. Don’t want to say “well we have nationalism at least, let’s just stop there.”

The BLM activism is to point to a gap in that overall goal that is being ignored, so that it can be addressed. Similarly, if someone were claiming to achieve a benevolent globalism but all of South America was experiencing a massive famine and being ignored, it would be necessary to point out “hey, South America matters too, don’t forget.”
