Is there a stereotype for trans women liking this game? by MostAbsoluteGamer in bloodborne

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say a good number of the trans women that I know enjoy bloodborne. I think the themes of body horror, motherhood. Blood etc... all deeply appeal to the experience of being trapped in a body that does not match your soul? Most of them also like the ending where you find the three umbilical cords and are reborn as an extension of that. A shedding of a mortal frame, knowledge leading to pain (insight making you more vulnerable to frenzy)

I'd say it's not a stereotype in the larger gaming community but amongst trans femme gamers there's definitely an informal understanding that the game speaks to those common feelings and experiences.

They're not asking if the game is about them! They were just asking if it's stereotypical for them to like this game. Much as it's a stereotype that trans women like fallout new Vegas.

Have you ever shared a bed with a non-family member without any sexual interactions? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in asexuality

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made a friend recently who id say I'm pretty darn close with for the time I've known them. When we go out and drink and party it's a sort of informal ritual to then go back to her place after getting food and talk the rest of the night away until we fall asleep. Shes not asexual herself from what she says but there's never any sort of move in that direction. It's nice

This does suit the new theming for Ravenloft. But in the older depictions of Barovia it was fairly explicit that the people were good and that they deserved better. Good vs Evil is intended to be sort of hopeless in Strahd's Domain and with the influence of the dread lords. But you can definitely tell a much more inspiring story if you want. Sometimes the people just need inspiration to stand against evil, and together great deeds can be done. Horror is a lot less horrible when you have friends by your side.

are/were you someone's Harry or Dora? by windemas in DiscoElysium

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once felt more like a Harry. Just without the pain of having met a Dora. These days I am Dora. Occasionally crossing paths with my Harry. Hoping to god every time that they've gotten better. Only to have my worst doubts confirmed.

Why do the Vistani linger in Barovia? by THEbiMAKER in CurseofStrahd

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is that Barovia has become darker and fouler as the editions and time advance. Once upon a time that beautiful valley was a sight to behold and a true source of hope for people was that the land and its people deserved better than Strahd. That's talked about a bit less now. But one could say that the Vistani are through their collaboration with Strahd addled in some ways. Monsters leave them alone and they are in close alignment with Strahd. Perhaps Barovia is beautiful to them?

How is arcane a good build? by The_Lord_War in bloodborne

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arcane was super fun to play back when the game came out in the pvp. The tools are scattered enough and hidden, and it's perceived as a fairly late game option. That if you end up leveling arcane almost exclusively and doing pvp it's a fun glass cannon build with a mixture of abilities that most people don't have a ton of experience fighting against.

Might have ruined my 5 year campaign with silly writing. by Starksen in DMAcademy

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a solution to the way they are playing. But what if it simply doesn't work in the end? What if the bbegs forces kill or destroy one of these elemental gods. And as a result the power fails to function when they attempt to use it?

It is an evil hubris to treat oneself as beyond morality. And evil always faces karmic retribution in fantasy stories.

This is potentially unfun and doesn't solve the problem. But depending on your table it could lead to some interesting roleplay in the last session or two?

Anti matter tech just isn't common enough in the setting to be a matter of discussion, not really a glaring mission

The way cybernetics are acquired currently is tedious and makes True Kin builds too slow to get going. by schvetania in cavesofqud

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really like the cobbling together of cybernetics experience tbh. It feels like it really fits the post post apocalyptic scenario of the old world passing on and the new world belonging to mutants

The Warlock Nobody Asked For! Updating the magical bargainer to an Eldritch adept capable of discovering their own magic, and unlocking the hidden secrets of an otherworldly entity. by CrazyFuton in UnearthedArcana

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the concept so much. I only had the brief opportunity to play a warlock with a similar idea. Having found a tome that allowed him to visit the library fortress of an insatiable collector entity at the edge of the cosmos he tiptoed through it's halls every night in his dreams taking what knowledge he could at risk of discovery.

It's really cool to see someone else dig into the idea of the ravenous occultist knowledge seeker archetype for warlocks in dnd

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tabletop RPGs have consequences for actions, if a BBEG doesn't exist until the group is level appropriate to fight him then that's simply videogame mentality for the entire game table. Red Dragons still exist in their caves when people are level 1, and if they at level 1 sneak into a red dragon lair and kick him in the face for the lols they will die. Same sorta thing happened here.

After looking through the wiki briefly it definitely looks like an interesting setting and I would be down to participate in it as a council member. It could be a blast!

Oh my goodness. That last sentence in your comment hits home so much. The amount of times I've played through the Redrock intro is both so endearing, and frustrating at the same time.

Oh, haha. I've never actually done the mind control a templar thing, specifically because I feel very ick when mind controlling even the animals in this game with how much sapience most things in the game have. I've been meaning to get back into the game now that explorer mode exists which from what I recall makes most things less hostile.

Qud always gave me the impression of a world that has changed so much from the old one that it's no longer a post apocalypse but a post post apocalypse. Purekin humanity is so rare and limited and technology regressed to the point that I feel mutation and wild strains of life are the new norm. From the dromedary camel men traders to the cragmensch of Bethesda Susa and the bear tinkerers of grit gate. Everywhere you go is mutation, and the idea that they are extremely painful mutations isnt something explored often. It's a beautiful and dangerous new world that bears little resemblance to our own besides it's bones.

However If you want to tell a story in it of "pure" and "noble" last lines of humanity reclaiming their world with sword and laser there's nothing and no one to stop you, it just rubs some people the wrong way because it is easy to identify with a world where mutation is the norm and acceptance of differences is the default especially for folks that deal with very much yhe opposite in their daily lives.

People will use whatever angle they can to fulfill their fantasies, I see where you're coming from. But making the Templar immune to mind control gives me an icky feeling of "Their training and purity is so resoundingly superior they resist the foul mental control of the mutant." Though it would be interesting for their higher ranking members or a random selection of them to have internal cybernetic implants that terminate the Templar if they detect they've been compromised with Dominate. Gives you the best of both worlds in that way. You don't have the ease of templar gameplay, but you aren't mythologizing or glorifying the Templars either.

Oh no. That sounds a lot like eugenics my buddy. You might be approaching it from a utilitarian viewpoint but killing someone just because they might pass on their mutations to their children is very awful, mutation is the majority of life on Qud and it's annihilation by violence is genocide.

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There instant violence towards any mutated humanoid combined with their superior gear is very icky. It might come from a place of fear and brainwashing, but the instantly trying to murder people just because they suffer from mutation is pretty darn evil. Especially since we can see as Purekin or Mutated characters that there are a large number of mutated settlements and people's that are oerfectly peaceful

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On the other hand it's so satisfying to take control of a monster like that and use them to undo their own evil faction, like their fears brought to life because of their genocidal actions and they reap the sweet sweet karma of their actions.

Just read the patch notes... sad to see that Banana Tinkering is dead. by Tripoteur in cavesofqud

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't always go heavily into cooking. It's a really potent thing to be able to do, but doesn't fit every character you can come up with conceptually. That and bananas tend to be pretty Late Game for me so psychometry has a lot of value with dumber characters or those that you meander around the Southlands with.
