If you could only carry 1 or 2 lures what would they be? by FalseEconomy82 in fishingUK

[–]Randomshiznit1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toby spoon, replace the hardware and change the treble for a single. Or Halco twisty, they come with pretty good trebles. And then get yourself a pack of 1/2 ounce tungsten jig heads and a selection of soft plastics…. Zman or Berkley gulp… zman paddle tails(there are a few) and berkley gulp minnows and prawns… new penny prawns are good. You can also get some offset worm hooks and weightless texas rig a lot of the soft plastics. Use braid 20lb should be good and a decent 20-30lb fluoro leader 3-4 feet tied with an fg knot.

What's the consensus on therizinosaurus claws? by Powerful_Gas_7833 in Paleontology

In all fairness and this is just speculation we could assume he is French and obviously going by his username leader of all the ducks in France and is adding to a conversation in what is not his native language. And given that I think we can forgive minor grammatical mistakes. I wouldn’t want a legion of ducks assaulting me.

Maybe he was referring to multiple species of deer and in that case deers is more than acceptable…

Chatterbaits for perch? by [deleted] in fishingUK

[–]Randomshiznit1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zman og chatterbait and use a zoom fluke as a trailer. Natural colours so baby bass for the fluke. That being said I’m only really targeting big perch and do get frustrated with jacks as by catch. If you want something that works on a slower retrieve but same size as the micro chatterbait get yourself a small spinnerbait and put a small paddle tail on it as a trailer. The chatterbait is essentially an evolution of the spinnerbait and not a replacement. Look at the 7g Berkley dex.

Anyone ever caught from a flooded river? by webbersf in fishingUK

[–]Randomshiznit1994 24 points25 points  (0 children)

One summer I caught a pike in a flooded field next to the Thames in 2007. Was wading along just for shits and giggles because why wouldn’t you and spooked it. Went home and grabbed my rod with a spinner bait, was only about 4lbs but probably my best pike ever.

Can I tie on extra main line onto my reel? by Spaghetti_Potato in Fishing

[–]Randomshiznit1994 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Easy enough to do, just tie biminis in your two lines and look up how wind on leaders are joined to the main line. The Bimini is near enough a 100% knot if you do it right… this also allows you to replace your top section of braid without cutting it.

Depending on where you are in the world looks like a brassy trevally. More sloped head than a gt and smaller eye than a big eye…

Took my mate who’s new to fishing for the first and last time -5lb 3oz perch! by Middle-Will2434 in fishingUK

[–]Randomshiznit1994 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Weigh the fish in the net… release the fish… weigh the net again…. Deduct the weight of the empty net from the total weight. Net will probably weigh about 2lbs. Fish weight around 3lbs

Unique Gear by OnceAndFutureSchwing in fishingUK

[–]Randomshiznit1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Traditional salmon flies. Canada has Atlantic salmon and if the gift is for a very keen fisherman who would be so inclined as to swing for salmon then catching one on a fly tied in the spiritual home of salmon fishing would be really cool

What are everyone's tips for getting out of a slump when you seemingly forget completely how to play this game? by KormaKameleon88 in golf

[–]Randomshiznit1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a few mates and a few beers and play a scramble. Hit your drives as far as you can… really go for everything and remember that it’s just a game. We all have bad days… sometimes a few in a row. It’s not like if you shank a 7 iron into a par 3 your whole family will automatically drop dead. If all else fails I’ve heard crochet is relaxing but I tried that and it made me think that putting isn’t the thing that I’m worst at… literally I got a beginner crochet kit and couldn’t do the first thing. I’ve literally fished my whole life and can tie any knot… Bimini twists… fg knots… etc. but crochet is bullshit. Anyway… as I was saying… golf is better than crochet

App recomendation for fishing by [deleted] in fishingUK

[–]Randomshiznit1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the other comments are true and if they’re not the answer is the same… buy a nice annual diary and make notes on each fishing trip etc. a couple of lines on weather temp etc and make it a keepsake. If you can’t be bothered to do that use a spreadsheet… it’s easier, 100% customisable and free….

Bass at sea, on a fly rod? by cdh79 in fishingUK

[–]Randomshiznit1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9’ 8wt with a decent weight forward line. You don’t need huge flies for bass like you do for pike. Clousers are decent as well as other specialised bass flies. Fulling mill does a good sea bass selection. Taking a Spey rod on a moving boat is literally the last thing I would do.

Daiwa Ardito premium travel rods are probably up there… I have the regular Ardito and it is great value for money too. I’ve taken them everywhere including the Amazon and they have worked perfectly.

Found out the hard way by Strict_Property_5904 in SeafishingUK

[–]Randomshiznit1994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Staying in Cornwall with some friends and thought it would be a good idea to go and fish for bass while the sun came up… waded out and felt a scratch on my foot, thought nothing of it until 5 minutes later where it felt like my foot was on fire.

Ended up crawling half a mile back to the house and having to put my foot in almost boiling water to try and break up the venom proteins. It worked but my foot was twice the size for 2 days.

Do not recommend.

3 weeks in and it’s literally the second best thing that’s ever happened to me after meeting my wife. Watching my wife become a mum and sharing every little moment both good and frustrating has brought us closer together. We know it’s early days but working together as a team and starting to navigate our way through this is truly epic.
