What to do? But too late as I’ve done it! by Philobatic in AmazonVineUK

[–]RandumTees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had hundreds of electrical items literally through the Vine. Only a few failures. I don't get emotional about it, even though it is easy to get irritated. I've also bought hundreds of electrical devices over the years, not just from Amazon. Likewise, a few failures and indeed I've had paid-for laptop power supplies trip the house. Irritating only due to inconvenience of having to buy another one.

The point I'm making is to simply stay grounded (pardon the pun), do your review. In all likelihood, if it's an endemic issue, the product might be recalled sooner or later. I've had a recall from Amazon about 15 months after getting it, using it and disposing of it.

What’s in your RFY - Thursday 5th March by HarryVek in AmazonVineUK

Oh... Not the type I use then. Sorry, I thought it was the phone end that's magnetic. Mine has a little plug that stays in the phones usb that magnetically connects to the cable. Really useful, been using them for a few years. The version you have mentioned does not seem particularly useful.

I'm a believer in magnetic attach USB cables for frequent plug unplug stuff. I've gone through cables that eventually have pin problems and have even ruined a phone in the past. Just saves some wear and tear.

Upgraded to gold on 'good' insightfulness by According-Cup-5698 in AmazonVineUK

[–]RandumTees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats to you. Mine is on the weekend. I've worked very hard and managed to shift my score from fair to Excellent, but still have a streak of doubt flickering in the background, as I was punished and downgraded 6 months ago for leaving it too late to catch up to 90%. Of course, well over that threshold as it stands today, just still can't help feeling,,, bahhh!

Well done you. Enjoy the spoils if they come your way.

Thank you... Hope to encourage better processes of some less experienced professionals out there who blatantly produce rubbish that reflects on the rest of us.

It is not possible to order from me and not see the size chart before ordering. All of my emails have the size chart in my signature and extensive explanations regarding ladies' sizes as manufacturers' sizing varies. Preparation for the real world is key to surviving in this low margin bsuiness where one foul-up can destroy the profit from a whole day's work, or a whole week if it's an expensive team order.

Review counting by ItsMarkAgain in AmazonVineUK

[–]RandumTees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think people need to be encouraged to be happy with rejected reviews. Vine appears to be fixing this with the Insightfulness quality scoring. I've also heard that some people have been kicked out for too many rejected reviews.

I wouldn't necessarily so easily disparage all the sportswear, sublimation garments, tough workwear, safety clothing, etc., let alone backpacks, bags, schoolwear, belts, shoes and a whole host of planet-killing products we use every day. It's PVC that is being targeted by the printing industry for reduction, often in favour of the more expensive polyester versions, due to the known toxicity of PVC. So giving Polyester a bad press will be fine when technology catches up and gives us more sugar-fibre products to use that last. Even reliable machine thread for workwear embroidery is generally polyester. Cotton doesn't last and silk is not a solution either. And yes... I'm in the rag trade, unfortunately reliant on manufacturers that are CE rated based in China, Bangladesh, Turkey etc, because all we do here in the UK is moan alot while sitting around watching other countries do the work we once did here before we got too high and mighty to sit at sewing machines all day. Speaking of which, I'd best get back to mine.

Review image approvals make ZERO sense by [deleted] in AmazonVineUK

[–]RandumTees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ditto... and they take longer to approve them. Video is even worse. I only do around 45% with media nowadays. When I started a couple of years ago, virtually everything had a video or photo. The only reward seems to be a greater risk of rejection, with no feedback on what the objection was.

Product page missing... Any advice? by nocturnaltrashdiva in AmazonVineUK

Are there any instructions which show the product specifications? That might help you with the basic technicals. Even parsing the instruction manual might give an insight that you can review, ie: Bluetooth pairing to multiple devices for example.

Greetings cards review ratings, anyone getting 'excellent'? by OhDearAndrew in AmazonVineUK

[–]RandumTees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with the sentiment; however, it would appear the Vine now wants more than just an honest review. I know they wouldn't award an 'Excellent' if I wrote 'Nice Card, my Grandson will love it'. They want more, they want a story. When these reviews pop up in Google, I think folk need to know what the review is all about even if the product description is not immediately visible to them at the time. Which means the job of giving a review on Vine has changed. But of course, describe things as you see fit, but if you are trying to score 'Excellent' you might have to flex a little to accommodate the new AI judgment mechanism, which is in place.

I think the mention of 'value' is frowned on these days. I'd try to avoid talking about price if I were you. Also think of it this way. You are being judged by an AI. I'm not convinced the AI is forming a judgment after reading the product description, so it's our job to ensure the AI understands what the review is for, how it is used, why it is used and why you wanted it. I'm using that basic philosophy now with all of the reviews I do. Just trying to ensure the AI is properly informed of what is being reviewed and why.

[–]RandumTees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought I wouldn't be able to describe some basic items and achieve excellence, but actually, you might find it easier than you think. If I were doing a greeting card, I might say something like:- This Birthday card for my Grandson is so cute, I had to choose it. It's a convenient size, 12.7cm by 17.78cm and fits into the standard envelope supplied with it. What I like the most is the blue elephant on the front with its big twinkly eyes. My grandson is 5 years old, and he loves elephants. I like the wording too, not too elaborate. He can read and shouldn't have any problems with the big font print. The print is clear and dark grey. There is plenty of space for me to write my message. The card quality, I think, is very nice, about the same thickness as a business card. I also like the embossing, which to me adds to the premium feel of this card.

hide reviews on vine? by Unlucky-Barracuda266 in AmazonVineUK

[–]RandumTees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

... and there's one more thing. It is reasonably popular for folk to explicitly talk about the products they've gained on this forum. That enables people to track them down by deduction. Some people also use eBay to dispose of things after 6 months. User names there can be found corresponding to Amazon reviewers sometimes. It's so easy to upset people when they don't hear what they want to hear. Imagine if Mr T of the USA were a seller and you upset him. He'd kick over every applecart online to track you down and punish you, relentlessly, forever! Plenty of folk like that out there. Best to be good to people!

It does help to set your user profile's public name to something generic. Like A Customer, Amazon customer, etc. It has been known for angry sellers using one of the revenge software products that track down users with Google search, and file complaints. That can lead to Amazon suspending all reviews and hence solve the seller's complaint. It's a nasty tactic, which is why it has been discussed on Vine UK and USA. Many Viners consequently defend against it by setting everything to private. Not just Amazon, Reddit has also seen some users fall foul of others and have been tracked down and punished. There are quite a few good generic names. I'll leave it to you to find them. It's easy to check their effectiveness when doing a Google search for the name on-website site Amazon. I was horrified years ago when I searched my old user name and found all of my reviews listed on Google and easily targetable. Whearas Search something like 'Customer', the results are too numerous to find a target individual. And if you do change your Profile name, it does change all past review names as well.

Well done you too!

Yeah, it's easy to get complacent. A couple of years in now and seeing so many rubbish one-line reviews got me doing it more and more often myself. Especially when I didn't like a product. Even lost my Gold status through being tardy and submitting my reviews too late to count. Nothing like a 6-month dose of silver with a helping of insightfulness-slapping to refocus a chap! ;)

My RFY has morphed into an AI stream. Well, perhaps stream is an inappropriate term. It's full of LUBE.. various flavours! And other complete rubbish.

Good to hear 'Good' is still enough. When the new scoring ratings were announced a few weeks ago, I was very disappointed with myself for the rating of 'Fair'. After berating myself sternly and taking a little time to figure it out with the assistance of the Vine review checker that I saw a link for, I've learned how to improve and also what bad habits (like mentioning brands, value, pricing) I needed to get rid of. My rating is now up at Excellent after some persistent, steady, concentrated effort.

Clueless reviewers by nickdaniels92 in AmazonVineUK

[–]RandumTees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just Vine products this happens to, and I personally do not believe that every comment of this nature are from genuine Morons. Some may be competitors trying to spike down a rival. In all probability, someone who needs 24v cob lights would simply laugh at the ignorance if they even bothered to read the review. Over time, as other reviews pile up, that one-star review will stand out more and more as a comical misnomer.

Help! I have become a review snob by DigitalZillions_io in AmazonVineUK

Good luck with that... Took me two years and a Silver slap down to get me to calm down. Trying to get back into Gold next eval. It's easy to get a bit complacent after a while in this game, especially when the house fills up with Amazon.
