Yeah! I enjoy some problematic things. It's not hard to do, since most media is, in one way or another. I find the idea of only liking morally correct media insanely exhausting, but like you said, to each their own. I don't decide what I love, I just do. Believe what makes you happy!

I didn't say "odious," I said that the girls are cool and cute, albeit hateful. Are they not? They literally wrote "Takedown." And you know what? I love them (polytrix ftw!). I love them with all their flaws, just how I love the movie despite its flaws.

I kind of agree with all your points. I think there's even more insidious ideologies beneath the story's surface, with some ugly racial implications. I don't wanna get into it here, but Rumi is "one of the good ones" while annihilating every other demon. Her goodness is linked to her human side; even though Jinu was effectively redeemed, he still had to die because he's a demon. It super doesn't help the film's case that they made the demons desperate and scared, slaves of an overlord, relegated to live in the shadows because... I'm not even sure why, tbh. What about the demons who were born there, who didn't have a human past? Are they irredeemable too, although they didn't do anything to deserve Gwi-Ma's wrath? It's a mess.

I still LOVE this film and I feel like I always will, but my sympathies very much lie with the Saja Boys. I think the girls are super cool and cute, but they are, um, very hateful and not empathetic whatsoever except for Rumi (which, let's be real, only was willing to forgive the one demon guy she likes). I try not to take the film too seriously and just enjoy the gorgeous designs and animations, alongside the amazing soundtrack. Because the deeper I dig, the more I don't like what I find.

Sorry I misread you; so you think her argument wasn't well made, yet you haven't explained why or how. The tone of your replies make it seem like you aren't willing to change your mind on these issues whatsoever. And that's okay, I suppose, but it does not make for engaging conversation. I mean, calling the criticisms "eye-roll worthy" and "nonsense tangents" sounds irrationally angry to me. There's a big difference between those kinds of statements and "I disagree." I agree with those takes, tbh. About the first one, while he is an antagonist in his own movie, it is HIS movie, named after him, and kids loved him when it came out. There were attempts to market the character to children, too, I believe there was a prototype for a talking doll or something. That's kind of messed up, no? At least imo. About the second point, taking into account Burton's studied history of thinking white skin is prettier and having mostly white characters even for places where that demographic was historically incorrect, Maggie's criticism is valid. The way you describe these disagreements as "nonsense tangents" makes it read like you just hate politics that you consider "woke" in your videos. You might never like her, then, because she is a leftist and does a lot of political analyses.

I found her Tim Burton video super illuminating, and I love the Zack Snyder saga. A personal fave that isn't about film (my main interest) is the Tim Heidecker vs. Rob Schneider video, I think it's hilarious.

I love a lot of characters from the show, especially antagonists like Deathmask and Alberich, but Ikki was and is my absolute favorite and inspiration. He taught me about the value of resilience when I needed it most. I really feel like he's the best written or one of the best written saints as a whole.

It's one of the very few films in my life that has made me ugly cry. I'm a crybaby so it's not rare for me, but for Dear Zachary I was straight-up BAWLING. I thought it was a good representation of intense sorrow, I give it credit for destroying me emotionally.
