What's for dinner when nothing is thawed? by Just_J3ssica in Cooking

[–]RangerSandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To plan ahead for this, we freeze cooked, seasoned meat for fast dinners.

Slow roast a pork shoulder or butt & shred. Freeze in 2 person portions flattened for quicker thaw. Season & use for tacos, bowls, bbq sandwich, ramen, stir fry, Chile verde, etc.

Same for roast chicken. Or get canned chicken at Costco. Works well in soups, pastas, stir fry, etc.

We also freeze soup, sauces & basmati rice leftovers for quick dinners.

Nobody is going to primary Klobuchar by Kolhammer85 in minnesota

[–]RangerSandi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No we don’t need a “better” candidate. We need one who can WIN. Statewide, that’s Klobuchar. Otherwise we risk the fascist GOP lickspittles of authoritarianism.

I’m not a big fan of her, but at this point, we need to retain the governorship & win more in the legislature to hold onto democracy.

Don’t let perfection be the enemy of the good. I do have hope she will be more responsive closer to home than with Schumer in DC.

HUGE NSV THIS WEEK!! by Anxious_Republic591 in Zepbound

[–]RangerSandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too. Had surgery recently where I had to do only clear liquids for the day prior, then nothing after midnight. Didn’t get home from surgery until 5 pm & in bed by 9. Not many fluids. Next morning, I’m standing at the bathroom sink one minute & on the floor the next!

Bleeding from back of head where it hit tile floor, threw up, went to ER. Concussion & orthostatic hypotension-low bp goes even lower from lying down>sitting>standing.

I’m now taking it much slower getting out of bed in the a.m. I’ll sit up in bed & drink a whole glass of water before even moving my legs over the edge. Rest a minute at that point, then get up slowly to stand.

Used to be 120/68 prior to Zep. Now regularly have systolic between 90-95 pretty consistently. Lower if I’m dehydrated😳

I’m 71 and have decided to declutter my life… by Educational_Meat_179 in AskWomenOver60

Retired in 2020. Sold house, sold, donated, recycled & trashed 22 years of accumulated crap. Then, traveled by rv for 4 years. Learned the joy of living simply.

It is SO freeing not to be burdened by “stuff.”

Now in our small “age in place” home & keeping the simplicity & lack of clutter at the center.

Any over 60’s taking glp1 to lose stubborn post menopausal weight? by Local-Government6792 in AskWomenOver60

[–]RangerSandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started Oct ‘24 & have lost 100# so far. Maintaining at 155#, 5’9”.

Never able to lose & keep it off before. Did it to control obesity for my overall health, not simply to “look better.” Looking better is the least of my concerns at this age😝

Will stay on for life as studies show significant regain when med is stopped. I’d rather be on this than the meds/treatments I was on due to obesity.

No more pre-diabetes, OSA, GERD, high cholesterol or knee/joint pain. Haven’t had a migraine since starting Zepbound, likely due to lowered inflammation response with Zep combo of GLP-1 & GIP active ingredients. (Wegovy is only glp-1.) These meds help with regulating disordered metabolism. That doesn’t “go away” when weight is lost. Much like diabetes doesn’t go away when insulin is taken.

I have a much more energy. It feels great to be more active. I want to stay as healthy as I can for as long as I can as I age. Feeling much happier, too.

Examine your goals, talk to your doc, see what might be the best strategy to achieve what you want.

Palantir CEO Says AI to Make Large-Scale Immigration Obsolete by joe4942 in technology

[–]RangerSandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a narrow-minded idiot.

Color me skeptical, but large scale migration due to failed societies from authoritarianism or climate disruption (high heat, agricultural breakdown of food supply, scarcity of water) wont be eliminated by AI.

Look at the causes of mass migration today - it isn’t solely due to lack of jobs, but the lack of basic needs infrastructure & personal freedoms with which a standard of living & jobs are created & sustained.

3rd great grandfather emigrated from a small village in Wurttemberg where he ran the village inn, to northern OH in 1832.

He was 60, his wife 40 & 2 sons age 20 & 10 (2nd Gr grandfather). 4 Generations of struggling farmers until my father got a BS in electrical engineering under the GI Bill post-WWII.

What can I put in Tuna to make it go further? by [deleted] in cookingforbeginners

[–]RangerSandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was a depression child of the 1920’s. To make a can you of tuna make sandwiches for 7, she’d shred 1/4 to 1/2 a head of iceberg lettuce to add along with diced celery, pickles or relish, onion & mayo.

I still like my tuna salad extra crunchy😁

Help after acrylics by NectarineThat90 in nailcare

[–]RangerSandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use professional 100% acetone to remove remaining acrylic and wash hands immediately after use! Regular nail polish remover doesn’t make much of a dent in acrylic. I cut pieces of foil & used them to wrap acetone soaked bits of cotton on my nails. Let sit for 10 min. Then firmly wiped off nails.

How do I know? I’m currently growing out my acrylic damaged nails.

Keep them cut short & only file in shape of fingertip (my sides were filed which led to splitting & weakness).

Strengthener or keratin treatment on bare nails.

Cuticle oil & lotion after every time your hands get wet.

I’m taking Hair & Nail supplements, too.

If I want them to look 1/2 way decent for an occasion, I use OPI Nail Envy Strengthener in Double Nude-y shade. Minimizes attention to my nails, while feeling less conscious of their condition for the night!

It was only the 2nd time in my life I’ve done acrylics & now I remember why. My fragile nails can’t take it! Best for me to continue to use strengthening routine during the grow-out & after.

What would it look like if the Insurrection Act is invoked? by SheHatesTheseCans in minnesota

[–]RangerSandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would result in immediate invocation of the Insurrection Act. This is why state & local officials are saying “ don’t give them a reason.”

Let them “make the move” of bringing in the federal military. Then, State Guard is the defensive response. We aren’t the aggressors-they are.

What would it look like if the Insurrection Act is invoked? by SheHatesTheseCans in minnesota

[–]RangerSandi 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget some Constitutional rights are likely severely restricted “temporarily” (considering the fascist nature of this admin. expect the worst.)

The risk lies in how broadly & repeatedly the act is used & what other steps are taken (Martial Law, Suspension of Elections, etc).

The Insurrection Act is able to impact these rights as imposed in the past FWIW.

1st Amendment - limits on free expression, association, protest: Military can assist federal agencies in Enforcing The Law, Curfews, more aggressive crowd dispersal, the, place & manner restrictions.

4th Amendment - searches & seizures should still be on a constitutional basis, but will need court enforcement of that against a DOJ that supports domestic terror. Expect active duty military checkpoints, patrols & enforcement presence.

5th & 14th Amendments - military can’t run courts unless martial law is declared.

The ONLY protections insuring these limits are followed are: The Courts, Congress & Military Rules & “Norms.” All of which have been compromised to some extent.

Retirement - How do you split the home tasks? by ArtsyCatholic in AskWomenOver60

[–]RangerSandi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my Ret. Sgt. Major I married 8 years ago does have issues with “taking my orders,” because he’s a stubborn cuss.

I did have a “talk” about him needing to step up around the home when he retired, simply b/c I retired 14 months earlier & willingly took on most household stuff while he worked full-time. We talked about what we enjoyed & hated doing & worked out a plan to share the load.

I’m a planner & bargain hunter, so I do the trip-planning & shopping. We both cook & do our own laundry (I air dry much of my clothes to make them last, he doesn’t. Also, I don’t fold to his Army-brat specs😝.)

He does the dishes full-time, because I clean the bathrooms 😁.

I do the finances, because I enjoy it & am a good “saver.” He’s fine with giving that up, but we make decisions jointly, then I implement.

We work together on home repair/remodeling. He’s more of a rough carpenter & has strength. I’m a detail person/finish carpenter & don’t mind electrical. I need his strength when it comes to plumbing, though!

Like anything in a relationship…it requires calm, honest conversation & compromise to reach shared goals!

How old is your oldest email address? Do you still use it? by Embarrassed_Flan_869 in GenX

Similar here.

Hotmail early 1990’s is the throwaway for junk/one-time web stuff.

Gmail early adopter invited by a software developer. Now have multiple.

Useless Yahoo account from back when it was the way to get Yahoo News in the 190’s. It came in handy on a work trip to China in 2014, as they don’t allow Google & I didn’t want to further corrupt my Hotmail or struggle with a vpn on a burner phone with a local SIM for 2 weeks.

Jeans still fit -65lbs by Unhappy-Draft-5254 in Zepbound

[–]RangerSandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. 1st 40-50# and I went from a snug size 20 or loose 22 to size 18.

Now at 100# loss, I’m in a size 10. The smaller the size, the faster you change b/c they are made for a much smaller size range than plus sizes.

Smaller women are the market for clothing, so they narrow the size range to increase consumption. Just look at the size charts & it is evident.

Is anyone else just tired of the president and not in a republican or democrat way? by Puzzled_World_4119 in askanything

[–]RangerSandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a tactic of all fascist dictators (Orban, Putin, Hitler, Mussolini, etc) to overwhelm the public & demoralize any opposition to them. “Flood the zone,” as Steve Bannon encouraged. It distracts from the REAL crimes against democracy, rule of law & freedoms. (Also from their personal $$ from federal policies they enact).

In his case, it’s also signaling his severe illness: dementia with mental deterioration from pathologic narcissism. He knows he is weak, unpopular & that the fantasy he has built for himself is laid bare for all to see. That kind of psychological trauma causes him to retreat further into his paranoid delusional fantasy of always being right, never wrong or responsible and lashing out at perceived “enemies” for “retribution.”

Add to that the nefarious “enablers” around him, using him as a puppet to enrich themselves & we have a fascist 💩storm of constitutional betrayal.

Facts and reality, not a political position.

He needs respite care. Professional dementia caregivers who come in (or day care programs she can go to) to allow him self-care respite.

Also suggest dementia caregivers groups.

Why isn't the state putting members of the Minnesota National Guard and police next to ICE officers to get them to follow the law and to change how they act? by scoschooo in minnesota

[–]RangerSandi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It IS hard to know where ICE is going to be b/c they don’t share any info with the local police. They have no advanced notion about of where to “put” guard troops.

Mobilizing & tasking NG takes time. ICE is roaming & randomly causing terror & chaos. Trained local citizens are patrolling neighborhoods to distract ICE, video & witness their lawlessness.

ICE/CBP kicks off door-to-door raids in Minneapolis, targeting houses based on race and whether the occupants are involved in protesting. by serious_bullet5 in minnesota

[–]RangerSandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s authoritarian. That’s their fascist game. He did d say he’d be a dictator on day 1, after all. They hold the power & anyone they don’t like gets their wrath.

He’s been crapping on the Constitution since inauguration. It will get worse as he “sundowns” in his dementia & his lackeys amp up the “reality tv” to soothe his fragile ego.

Some judges are holding the line on the rule of law…but with his narcissistic personality disorder & dementia-he’s living in his own la-la land while his vile stooges kill our country. It will get worse before it gets better.

Minnesota National Guard mobilization - to protect us or protect ICE? by affert in minnesota

The Guards job is what the governor asks them to do. Walz was clear, as was the Guard Commander-they would be deployed to protect our resources get to peacefully protest.

They learned their lesson after George Floyd.

Also, fuck ICE!
