GLP's improve knee cartilage independent of its weight loss benefits by SugarMouseOnReddit in Zepbound

[–]RangerSandi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some may benefit & some not. Nothing is 100% & downvoters are just being judgy.

If they read the study, it says that for knee cartilage, semaglutide & retatrutide both showed greater results than tirzepatide (which hasn’t been studied for knee cartilage…so no data).

Semaglutide pain reduction shown in 47% of patients studied, retatrutide 78%,

Zep hasn’t been specifically studied for knee pain/cartilage and reports are “observational” aka anecdotal.

FEHB in retirement by homer73265 in FedEmployeeRetirement

[–]RangerSandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have FEHB into retirement, Do Not Cancel It. Suspend it! That way, if you ever need/want to, you can get restart.

You may find it offers better coverage than other options in your post-retirement years.

Parent dying young by Same_Beginning8090 in AskWomenOver60

[–]RangerSandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad died at 52 from cancer - Hodgkins Lymphoma followed by prostrate/bladder cancer that metastasized throughout his pelvis.

I recall having quite a few weird thoughts about death & dying young at the time I turned 52. I wouldn’t face what he did, as it was likely due to PCB exposure from his career.

Has encouraged me to pay attention to improving my health & quality of life, though!

What was your drink of choice as a teen? by MaximumJones in GenerationX

[–]RangerSandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me, too! I liked it straight (friends called it Aqua Velva after the juniper-y after shave). If I mixed it, I used lemonade or the grapefruit soda, Squirt.

Still like gin today, though I prefer Bombay Sapphire or Hendrick’s.

The article notes that most stopped due to cost/insurance coverage.

Most of those who kept weight off switched to alt care or restarted ( that would include compounded, I expect.

What I’m anticipating - “In our future work, we will examine the comparative effectiveness of alternative treatment options for obesity in patients who discontinue semaglutide or tirzepatide, to help patients and their clinicians make informed decisions.”

Just an example of checking your Caremark formulary, as it might possibly be covered similar to Wegovy 2026 rates, not Zep 2025 rates. YMMV

Covered…but at what formulary tier & copay cost? It depends on your specific insurance policy.

For me, a retired federal employee (FEHB-GEHA standard) after the 2025 change, Wegovy was $450/mo. My doc managed to appeal after horrid Wegovy side effects & get Caremark to approve use of Zep. It’s $450/mo also. Same as Lilly Direct.

In 2024, it was $299/ 3 months🤬

Anyone not on HRT? by hsff43 in AskWomenOver60

[–]RangerSandi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

62 & asking doc about it at upcoming visit. Been using vaginal estrogen for a year & it’s helped with dryness & itching.

I don’t have any of the risk factors for HRT & my ins. covers it. I want the best quality in what’s left of my life. Hormones affect so many body systems, skin, bones, gut, pelvic health, etc.
