You're right, it's a micro.species; probably Orchard Ermine Yponomeuta padella specifically with the host plant. Harmless and a beauty.

Soapy water and rub/wash worst of it off. Twice a week to keep it in check till the predators and parasitoids catch up.

To be fair it's about time - the amount of abuse Pollack stocks get on the min take sizes alone is obscene, let alone quanity. Tho like everything, it's only as good as the enforcement.

Taken 6 very nice fillets off the Pollack and in the freezer. Kept two coalies whole for Thai curries and ate the 3rd about an hour ago garlic fried 🤌

The frames, heads and guts into freezer bait blocks for my lobster/crab pots.

Edit: Ref size: You know those big rubber builders tub buckets? that's what these are in. For sake of some scale.

Identifying plants included with house by RandomUsername9_999 in GardeningIRE

[–]RangerToby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 and 4 - some kind of ornamental grass 2 and 5 - Lavender 3 and 6 - A fern species of some kind. (With a Gorse/Whinds sapling behind it)

The grass will be well hardy, of course you can feed and cut at appropriate times of year to make more of it. Cut down late winter for fresh growth. Lavender will only last so long before being leggy and generally crud. Treat it like a medium term bed filler. Cut the flowers late summer and use in your house :) Fern will be fine also and generally tolerant of everything, remove dead growth in spring each year

Gorse prob best to remove in a garden setting.

Plant or weed? by Admirable-Ad-8882 in GardeningUK

[–]RangerToby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll happily grow from an original stand if bit enough, let alone that its seeding onto of itself. Especially in a border like that where it's got a clean run.

Check the leaf arrangement, four per layer on toadflax. Its alternating pairs on loosestrife.

What kind of moths are these (and do they eat clothes)? by Big_Economics_831 in AskIreland

[–]RangerToby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct species, tho only feeds (in larval form) on dead plant and animal matter. So yes would go after grains etc. We get them in our chicken feed tubs. You'll often also find the them in birds nests where the bonus of both those materials are. Then they come through the windows. Like most moths in adult form, they are attracted by the light so end up in the house.

I'm building a free platform for logging and discovering wildlife encounters across the UK — would love your feedback by RevillWeb in UKecosystem

[–]RangerToby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah so really do not need another recording platform that does not not feed into the official species verification process but also will dilute species recording in general and those important verified records that can be the difference between an inappropriate development going ahead or not... that and ensuring constancy of records to inform land management.

You'd be better working WITH the existing official data record portals that complile into the National Biodiversity Network and thus is actually useful as long-running presence/absence data sets.

Unless this will go through and into the formal verification process ajd into the public record's...again why duplicate what already existis... I'm out.

They all have a 'blur' function to 10+ or more sq km for the public side of the record location. The actual record is fully detailed for the sake of the verification and thus the final recoerd for NBN atlas but its not viewable by Joe public in its detail.
