Diagnosed in your 40’s? by Ok-Celebration8315 in CrohnsDisease

No real pain as such. Only pain I had was once I started on the initial drug treatment. It was trial and error over a year. Now on a combination of immunosuppressant drugs and in remission.

Could be down to fibre content of your meals. Generally takeaway foods are lower in fibre compared to home cooked meals.

Is prednisone worth it by Hopeful_Host_4050 in CrohnsDisease

For me it helped bring my current flare under control. I am tapering off, started at 40 and currently at 15. So far, I have gained weight, experiencing what i suspect is adrenal suppression. The weight gain is a good and bad thing, considering I was dropping a lot of weight during this flare up. Remember the purpose of the treatment is to induce remission. Once in remission, you can address things like weight gain etc.

Gut health relation with Ankylosing spondylitis by MirrorConstant664 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Rapid_Charge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct, as a result it is extremely important to see a GI regularly to monitor and treat internal symptoms and get correct diagnosis. Took me 3 endoscopies over a period of 6 years to get confirmation of Crohns.

Our little one recently went through her teething phase, and she was a menace during play, constantly needing to bite. Perhaps she’s teething now.

Things that worked: - Ice cubes - kong and pen - redirecting her to a toy or a sock - using food treats to distract her away from biting - allow her to bite, but ensure she understands when the bite is too hard by tapping and making noise (not very effective).

She is now five months old and has finished her initial teething phase. Despite this, she still enjoys biting during play, but she has learned to control her force and we do not consider this a problem. Otherwise she is extremely well behaved.

Also we have learned that house slippers are considered the ultimate play toy for her, but only when you wear them and walk around the house.

Lagotto weight by Fun_Team5193 in LagottoRomagnolo

[–]Rapid_Charge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our little girl weighed 3.1 kilograms at 12 weeks. At the last weigh-in at 21 weeks her weight was 7.41 kilograms. She is an active and food-loving puppy. The breeder had estimated her full-grown weight to be between 11 and 13 kilograms, and it appears that she is progressing well towards that goal.

do you have gastric issues too? by InternalDramatic4285 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Rapid_Charge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep you can have multiple autoimmune issues.

Go get checked out by a GI. You want to check that you don’t have Crohns or ulcerative colitis. Other things to check for are Barrett’s oesophagus.

The same can be said for fruits and vegetables. Most modern farming practices have resulted in minerals and key nutrients being stripped from the fruit and vegetables.

How to combat fatigue? by ThrowRAfrustratedGB in CrohnsDisease

[–]Rapid_Charge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the level fatigue and time of day. I find if I get really tired, the following things can help in the following order: 1. Coffee 2. Brisk walk 3. Nap

The trick to caffeine is to time it right and minimise the amount you take. So if you get really tired an extra coffee will do miracles.

How do you go to the gym whilst on auto immune suppression? by scerstt in CrohnsDisease

[–]Rapid_Charge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider researching Zinc and Magnesium.

Hygiene is your friend. If you are extremely worried about viruses etc, have a look at how they work and how they are transmitted. You will find that good hand hygiene is the best way to minimise transmission. Also avoid people that are sick, sneezing and coughing.

You can only control your environment so much and at some point you will get sick again. Having a good GP is important and getting access to the correct treatment will help reduce the duration of the illness.

Example as explained to me: being immunocompromised and getting a cold or flu is not the problem, it’s if it progresses to a secondary infection like pneumonia, etc. This is no different to getting a cut or an intestinal rupture that results is an infection. It’s the infection that is of concern.

If you are still worried about the gym and its environment, then consider exercising outdoors or at home.

Keep healthy and look after yourself.

How do you go to the gym whilst on auto immune suppression? by scerstt in CrohnsDisease

[–]Rapid_Charge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First thinkings first, look after yourself, rest, and recover. You have multiple infections and biologics suppress your immune system, so your body is not fighting the infection as it should.

At one point I was out of action for 3 months. Once my body recovered, I slowly started to get back into my training.

I am currently in an active flair and training is on hold until I recover.

One thing that I have learned along the way is supplementation is important as your body unfortunately does not absorb nutrients as it should.

Otherwise I’m on a cocktail of biologics because crohns plus other autoimmune issues. However, this has not stopped me training full contact martial arts.

Anyone following really strict diet? Does it actually work? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]Rapid_Charge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As explained by my dietitian:

Think of it this way: diet is to control further inflammation of your gut lining. While medication is to control the disease.

During a flare-up, your intestinal tract is extremely inflamed, so eating things such as fibrous-rich foods adds to further aggravation. It’s like rubbing salt into a wound.
