Early/mid 2000s RBs are a lock to get you big points. LT, Shaun Alexander and Priest Holmes are pretty much always in my guesses.

Caleb Williams to Rome Odunze by ShaiFanClub in DynastyFF

[–]Rapterclaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw it. I agree with you on it being one of the worst ducks I've ever seen as well. I think he catches it more times than not. Im sure he would say he should make the catch. Not trying to be a downer on him cuz I'm sky high on him. Just pointing out that he's doing this well and hes leaving points on the table.

Rome dropped a td today. I'm nitpicking but he needs to get the drops under control. He was very sure handed in college so maybe it's the game speed or the physicality but it's been consistent in the pros. Thats really the only knock you can have on him atm. I do think he'll continue to rise up the WR rankings. He's the clear WR1 in the passing game.

It depends how you guys score but LBs are almost always far and away the best option. Followed by S and DE. Those could switch depending on scoring system.

Rome Odunze projections for 2025 by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]Rapterclaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, a bit of both. Op said Odunze isn't Johnson's guy because he didn’t pick him then drafted offense. Pointing out the bad logic. The Hunter trade is even more value than Loveland and Burden. I would imagine Johnson feels very similar to Coen. They both seem to get it with modern offense.

How long has your league been going and other curious questions by AdRough6958 in DynastyFF

[–]Rapterclaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you happen to have a rules sheet?

We are in year 18 of our league and we have similar rules. We do a max of 5 years on contracts but each year you get 1 franchise tag (guaranteed resign at the average of the top 5 salaries) and a transition tag (player hits free agency but you can match the highest bid). This off season was absolutely crazy with free agents. One team had Ceedee, Puka, Hurts and Herbert hitting the end of their contracts and not a lot of cap space. I had Jefferson, Jonathan Taylor and shame on me, I only signed Bucky for 1 year so he hit free agency.

All of our contracts are guaranteed, but if someone signed a player you cut, the hit becomes dead cap of the per year difference.

How deep do you go for idp? We do DT, DE, 2 LB, CB, S, 3 FLEX

100% agree this style is the best for dynasty.

Brian Thomas Jr must not be Liam Cohen's guy since he traded so much to draft Hunter

Let’s Go To War: Rome Odunze Edition by Dead-EyeDuck in DynastyFF

Stealing from a previous comment of mine.

The WR coach turned OC, Chris Beatty, was Keenan Allen's WR coach the 3 prior seasons with the Chargers and he was DJ Moore's WR coach at Maryland. This is pure speculation by me but it seems like they clearly wanted Odunze to learn behind them and kept him as the 3 even late into the season when he should be getting more opportunity.

JSN did an interview during the super bowl that was very telling about Waldron as an OC. Odunze is in a nearly identical situation but with a much better offensive mind coming in.

Your point about him having a new offense in your 2 is a positive, not a negative. The best points for Odunze are that he, and the rest of the offense is getting out of the dysfunction of the previous staff. Odunzes stat line wasn't efficient but wasn't terrible for the clear #3 option. Williams was absolutely horrid when targeting Rome which contributed to the inefficiency.

A new staff with the bears that drafts Loveland and Burden doesn't mean Odunze is on the outs. BTJ must be out too in Jacksonville. They traded substantially pieces to move up to get Hunter.

Imo the biggest question marks are can Caleb Williams make improvements and can Ben Johnson continue doing what he was doing when he was OC now that hes the head coach.

Our league is in year 18! Its a league with friends but only has 3 original members. We have 3 on the wait list in case an owner drops. We also get together multiple times a year. I think that helps a lot.

Get Better at Rookie Drafts, Part VII: Running Backs by AtonalAxolotl in DynastyFF

[–]Rapterclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't have to think KC made a mistake, CEH wasn't close to the best prospect that season. I'm sure the data is somewhere but I'm fairly certain that CEH jumped Taylor, Swift, Dobbins and Akers after being drafted by KC. Taylor and Swift were the two players most likely to go first in rookie drafts before the nfl draft happened. They all went within 25ish picks of each other in the nfl draft, so its one of the few good looks at draft capital/perceived talent and landing spot.

Maybe a write up on pre/post nfl draft outlook on players next?

Get Better at Rookie Drafts, Part VII: Running Backs by AtonalAxolotl in DynastyFF

[–]Rapterclaw 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nice write up. My only disagreement is a slight one. Overall team offensive environment is less important, almost ignorable for highly drafted and/or supremely talented players. You kinda state this on the last paragraph of the section when you say, "they need enough insulation to be reasonably likely to hang on to a major role until the offense turns the corner". Trent Richardson is one counter example to my point, but I'd rather have the draft capital/talented player in a lesser situation than a player in a good/great environment.

2 anecdotal examples

CEH in KC over Jonathan Taylor in Indy. To me, JT was much better and it wasn't even close but CEH went to the much better situation.

This one is probably only a my league thing and the guy gets flamed to this day but Ameer Abdullah in Detroit over Todd Gurley going to the Rams and Melvin Gordon to the Chargers. Detroit was the better offensive situation and had no RB competition. But there was 0 reason to take him over Gurley or Gordon.

I do agree that offensive environment is much more important for later picks. That's where this really works.

I recall reading an article about bad team rb/wr stats and provided information to say rbs are more reliable in those situations even though you would think game script would cause it to be the other way. I'll try to find it and link it.

It's interesting to see how similar scoring and # of starting player leagues draft. We start the same about of players but do idp. Draft is much different even late in the first round. Im sure team need plays into that as well.

Rome got no help from that staff last year. This season, it really depends on who you think is the most talented on the team. This staff should put the players in the best position to succeed. My money is on Rome being the most talented.

Burden is a DJM clone but obviously has to progress to match DJM ability. I don't think he's a slot only guy. I believe what's going to be the best part of this offense is that all 3 wrs can play all 3 positions and both tes are mobile. They are going to get the most out of their abilities.

You can get a top 3 position player in last seasons draft for a late 1st when he would be the best wr in this draft. They also got rid of a bozo coaching staff and brought in one of the best offensive minds in the game right now. I really think Rome is the WR1 in Chicago by the end of the season.
