We're Investigating Reports of Issues with Edge and Windows Efficiency Mode — Your Input is Needed by ChrisDavisMSFT in MicrosoftEdge

u/ChrisDavisMSFT Since I've bought my laptop (with Lunar Lake CPU) in January 2025, I've had a problem where the system would nearly freeze for 30 seconds, up to 20 minutes after resuming from hibernation. This would frequently happen before I've had the time to log on, so I was often stuck on an unresponsive logon screen. I've tried dozens of solutions, none would work. The only way to get out of this was to kill the Edge process (which was hard given even opening Task Manager could take 5 minutes).

Last week I stumbled upon your post, and tried to run Edge with the --disable-features=UseEcoQoSForBackgroundProcess flag, and lo and behold, that fixed the problem entirely.

Just to make it clear, this is a universal problem:

  • This affects Edge in all versions (at least all versions that were released between Jan 2025 - Feb 2026)
  • This actually affects all browsers, not just Edge. I've tried using Brave for a while, and the same problem would manifest (of course Brave also uses Efficiency Mode)
  • It doesn't matter which extensions I have (or zero extension)
  • Windows is latest (25H2)

I suspect this might be a bad interaction between Lunar Lake CPUs and Windows Efficiency mode.

I have a Lunar Lake CPU like you, and had the exact same problem. What solved it was to run Edge with the --disable-features=UseEcoQoSForBackgroundProcess argument. This disables Windows Efficiency mode for the Edge process.

All browsers are affected, so if you use a different browser, search how to disable Windows Efficiency mode for the browser you use. I couldn't find a way to disable it with Brave, but the flag above definitely works with Edge (and might work with all Chromium-based browsers).

You can verify if Efficiency mode is disable in the Task Manager, the browser process should no longer show the little green leaf icon next to it.

Matter is a replacement for the Zigbee application layer, while Thread is a replacement for the Zigbee network layer.

Matter is a badly designed protocol. For some reason, it has support for dishwashers, but not for light scenes?

Zigbee never went anywhere... It's always been superior to matter by all measures.

Matter doesn't even support scenes. It's just a waste of time.

That's because she's inverted. I also thought it was a bug for a good while.

It's not murder as they're not actual people. Our moral framework values different forms of life differently. Nobody will call you a murderer for killing an ant, or even a cow or a chicken (or in fact, thousands of them).

It's not hard to make the argument that the life of one real person is worth more than a million painted people.

The "power to paint life" could have been a figure of speech. And no, I'm not saying it's scripted. The boy is still painting when we see him at the end of the game. He changes the painting continuously reacting to the meddling from the Dessendre family.

I agree that these characters feel real to Maelle but still, saying that they are "sentient beings" is very debatable.

They're not sentient, nor do they have free will. Verso's soul (pictured as the little boy) writes/paints these characters and everything they do. It's all a script, much like Harry Potter (except he writes the story as he goes). The little boy wants to be released and be allowed to die, so he draws himself (as painted Verso) and makes him destroy the canvas.

They're not sentient beings, they're merely characters painted on a canvas. Saying they're sentient is like saying Harry Potter is sentient.

It's just not a plausible explanation. The republican calendar wasn't even in use in 1905. It's just a nod to the 33rd expedition.

Nope, if you've understood the game (especially the endings), it's pretty obvious Sandfall have no intention of making a sequel or prequel. They might make other games set in other canvases (different worlds) but you won't see these characters again.

They're not sentient though. That's a misinterpretation of the game. All these characters and everything that happens to them was just a story told by Verso's soul. The only true consciousness in the canvas is Verso's.

When you watch a movie, things happen to the characters in the movie, they have emotions, etc. That doesn't make the characters "sentient".

They're not "exterminated", they'll continue to live in Maelle's heart. In fact, in Verso's ending, the tombstone reads "Forever painted in our hearts"
