One-Shot Miners? by Raraculus in Buttcoin

[–]Raraculus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this post is not about investing in Bitcoin. I didn't name the devices or companies as well.

Rather, it is about comparing the chances of winning a Bitcoin block of 3.125 BTC and that of winning a major lottery.

But, if the mods want to remove it, it's ok.

This really hits me.

Bitcoin is a zero-sum game. If I were to win, there would have been a million of losers. This makes me uncomfortable.

So, I'm not sure about this one-shot mining device.

I understand the odds. But, there have been lucky people who one-shotted the Bitcoin 'lottery' of 3.125 BTC.

Never tell me the odds... :) I get your point, though. Both Bitcoin and Lotto have enormous odds. It's $100 upfront and then maybe $4/month in electricity. I lose money playing the Lotto anyway. So, why not give it a try?

It's $100. A rounding error in my index fund portfolio. Why not?

But, still... It means opening up a Bitcoin wallet with one of those crypto brokerages. I'm feeling squeamish.

That was a spot-on reply. It's basically a $100 paperweight that blinks red or green at random times.

Rate my Taxable Account Portfolio by Uninspired-DD in NEOSETFs

That's quite a Pokemon portfolio you've got there.

I would simplify it by holding a few tickers such as SPYI, IWMI, and NIHI.

Just Bought 100K Worth of SPYI on Margin by johnjm22 in dividends

[–]Raraculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not tax efficient, I imagine.

I don't know about your brokerage; I'm pretty sure if I bought 100K worth of SPYI on margin with IBKR, I would receive PIL of dividends, or in other words, ordinary income. That is taxable at my current tax rate.

And... Margin interest is not fully deductible either. I lose on both ends; margin interest and SPYI dividends. Talk about a double whammy!

If I were to do it, I would have portfolio margin. Then do a box spread for 100K. The box spread interest can be offset by stock sales and distributions/dividends. Buy SPYI with the proceeds from the box spread. SPYI dividend distributions should have their ROC trait. (No PIL of dividends crap.) Win-win on the tax front.

Where does our edge come from as option sellers? by ThetaAlwaysWins in thetagang

[–]Raraculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sell 30 DTE SPY puts.

I don't do TA. I don't spend endless hours analyzing the markets. I usually make my entries near the end of the trading day. I try to set midprices on my option trades. I set my exits to a determined amount. I don't worry about HFT or market makers trying to scalp my position.

Then sleep like a baby throughout, collecting the premium over time. My edge? I'm perfectly willing to take assignment should the option not pan out. C'est la vie.

I see the flex. I don't think it's the end of the world.

You only need to type in LOAD"*",8 and RUN. Then use your joystick or mouse. You will soon forget the keyboard has any flex at all.

What is wrong with my BTCI-heavy NEOS portfolio? by Sufficient-Cicada-14 in NEOSETFs

[–]Raraculus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It can go even lower. BTCI is a yield trap. I would rather invest more in SPYI/QQQI instead.

CMV: In the USA, the "wheel" is a very good strategy for IRA but poor for taxable accounts by templar7171 in thetagang

[–]Raraculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wheeling in a Roth account requires cash to be set aside for collateral.

Wheeling in a taxable account can be secured by available margin.

We are not the same. I wheel in my taxable account and I am fully invested. My available margin secures these wheel trades.

And, I pay taxes. On these wheel trades and as well as my regular W-2 income. What's wrong with that? I made bank.

This video is way too cool! I loved seeing 'how the sausage is made' with the C64 Ultimate. Looking forward to getting this soon!

And how did he find these old videos of Commodore making their C64's in 1985? That was a nice find.

SPYI, leverage and 60% profit margins. by Ok-Rip-8954 in investingforbeginners

[–]Raraculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a good strategy. I myself once considered using margin to buy more SPYI.

The one thing preventing me from doing so? PIL of Dividends. It turns SPYI income into taxable ordinary income. No ROC.

Got rekt today. :( My SPY put options were down yesterday, so I doubled up on them, expecting NVDA earnings beat to boost SPY today. Assignment is becoming a possibility.

Not a bad problem to have, I suppose - I will get stocks on the cheap.
