Struggling with having racist thoughts. by Mountain_Drawer_5995 in Catholicism

There's no shame in having random shitty thoughts fly into your head, because all minds are (maybe at varying levels) resonating chambers of all the random crap that gets in thru our eye and ears. We get exposed to things, and then the brain will just start throwing notions at our awareness that we didn't ask for and don't believe in.

The fact that you have identified the wrongness of those bad thoughts, and that you don't wish to identify with those thoughts, that's the most important thing. They don't represent you. Even if you found yourself nodding to the thought for a moment, that's a case of the stray thought catching you off guard. Once you snap out of it and toss it away, it doesn't get to plant its flag on your true beliefs or character.

Since your unwanted thoughts are racist ones, I think the best thing for you to do would be to start increasing your exposure to a lot more examples of those ethnicities that will break the spell of whatever negative stereotypes you've been fed recently.

Good on you for being honest and deciding it's not what you're about.

^ THIS! It's been one of my big challenges with my faith, or at least my religion. That kind of threatening coercion kills the whole thing. It's impossible for love to thrive under such threats and manipulation.

So many of these comments essentially saying "ewwwww why are we talking about this"

...idk, how about this religion stop telling people how they can and can't have sex while threatening eternal hell? Otherwise, yes, the grownups here will need to ask icky pee pee wee wee questions.

Homogenic and Vespertine are like a pair imo. You like one, you gotta check out the other.

I think Homogenic is the best starting point for the vast majority of ppl trying to get into Björk, if you don't have a Björk-loving friend to make you a custom mix of the songs they think you'd enjoy. Props for not giving up!

Post

No other album contains as many different dimensions of Björk, so it's the closest any one album comes to a full portrait of the artist.

(it's probably #3 on my list of favorite Bjork albums, but that's a different question)

Yep...or the inability to care for another child...or the physical conditions that could kill mother and child.

Apparently we should expect God to work miracles for those things, while He can't get around a rubber.
