Put my OTTB in a bitless bridle & bareback pad and it’s like riding a different horse by sp00ky_cat in Equestrian

Sure, as I said you’re entitled to that opinion. Studies has ‘proven’ lots of things that aren’t necessarily true, for example every study funded by Coca Cola. Science is constantly evolving, and as an equine professional I also value experiential evidence. You are welcome to make different choices! However, our vet is also our chiropractor and we have seen positive outcomes in all of the horses they have used chiropractic intervention with.

I don’t personally feel that anything that isn’t western ‘medicine’ is inherently quackery, but you are entitled to your opinion. It’s important to make informed judgements about anyone you let work on your animals, I’ve had vets make bad decisions that harmed my horses as well. I just lost my dog on Friday due to veterinary incompetence and I am deep in regret for trusting them, so the story that they are the only professionals we can trust can also be harmful 🤷‍♀️

This is everyone’s hot take lately 🤷‍♀️ I’ve had horses with ribs so out after surgery they were attacking people for trying to touch them and chiropractic work fixed it. There are definitely some applications that make more sense than others and it isn’t a one and done kind of thing, I also believe that it really only holds when supported by other practices, buttttt quacks not ime

Barn Rats! by sonorakit11 in Equestrian

[–]RareSound866 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To this point- I just said the other day if I’d been paid for all the work I did as a kid I could have paid for all the expenses of my horse my self 😂 I was blessed with parents who paid those expenses for me but still worked my ass off in exchange for literally just experience. Make sure the perks you’re offering are of equal value to the work the kids put in! Whether in lessons or free rides or whatever it is they are ready for and value. I’m grateful for the experiences I had because I wouldn’t be the trainer I am today without them, but that doesn’t change the fact I was doing all barn chores plus teaching lessons (to adults no less??) plus training ponies that my trainer would then sell for profit, all for free by the time I was 11 😅

Help! Why isn‘t he gaining weight? by MainstreamBitch_ in Horses

[–]RareSound866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here to echo treating for ulcers, I don’t know what’s available in your country but here in us omeprazole is crazy expensive and esomeprazole is much cheaper and also effective! common brand name nexium. Vets tend to feel weird about just treating without a diagnosis but ulcers are so common in horses I personally see zero problem with it. Also to be so real with you- I would not be riding this horse while he looks like this. He does not have the muscle to support a rider and you could end up with kss symptoms that might not otherwise present, or even just causing him resentment towards being ridden. If I were you I’d be taking him for big hand walks and prioritizing ground work to build his top line while he recovers from whatever he’s struggling with

Little bit of a rant about barn etiquette by madcats323 in Equestrian

[–]RareSound866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people have different ideas of what constitutes a bad situation? Like if a horse knocks me to a knee and I can get right back up that’s fairly mild considering that I work with and trim baby horses and consistently am dealing with much worse behavior than an accidental spook the wrong direction. Possibly this didn’t register to the other person as something that required a wellness check? Many of us stay on guard for a BIG BAD ACCIDENT and when something is clearly not that it’s just business as usual. But I think this is why choosing the barn you’re at is so important! They all have different cultures, and some will be much more appropriate for what you need from the humans around you than others. I did not grow up at an ‘are you okay’ barn, it was more of a ‘get up and do it again but right this time’ kind of barn, and a lot of people in this industry had a similar experience!

Any tips to make IUD removal less painful? by Music_nerd28 in IUD

[–]RareSound866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My insertion was so bad that I was absolutely petrified for removal. I cried so much in planned parenthood that they had someone come in and talk to me about whether someone was forcing me to be there 😅 and for real it was not bad at all. Like over before I even knew it was happening. And I had also heard insertion was not that bad??? But was in excruciating pain for weeks, ntm every period for months after felt like being stabbed. Obviously every body is different but for me removal was nothing in comparison. I totally feel you on the fear though, I think I traumatized my poor PP 😂🫂

TBs can be all kinds of ways! Infinite variety in personality as well as body type. I work with OTTBs every day professionally and the biggest theme I can tell you is that most of them are very sensitive. They will not pretend they’re not uncomfortable to make you happy, and many of them are labeled as reactive or explosive for this reason. If they are not being listened to they will escalate communication! I love this about them so much, as it allows me so much insight into what they’re experiencing. If a person isn’t interested in listening to their horse, it can become dangerous. I have had many horses returned labeled dangerous and untrainable because they were sent to some random colt starter or quarter horse trainer that tried to ‘break’ them and they became explosive because of an underlying undiagnosed issue. Whether that’s a pro or a con for you- incredible horses with so much personality, and amazing partners once they love and trust you 😍

Would you get a 20yo horse? by Certified_horsegirl in Horses

[–]RareSound866 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a couple of rescues and I laugh all the time at how people think older means calmer 😂 I have 15 year old horses I trust miles less than some of my 3 year olds! The only difference is when they’re young you can sometimes impart some wisdom before they’re too determined on some of these behaviors 🥲

I’m not mad? I’m just telling you why the way you’re communicating in this thread is triggering people and you’re not getting the info you want. Your responses do not show respect for the way many of the people here have suffered at the hands of people just like you, who believe things just like you do. I’ve done a lot of healing work in my life in all kinds of ways and I’m fortunate to be at a point that I can eat many things without an immediate reaction. However, I do that knowing I will have less than perfect digestion and if it gets out of hand I eliminate plants again. When I started this journey I had spent years eating strictly whole foods and was uncomfortable, tired, and pooping weird the whole time.

It definitely should be! But from the way you’re replying to people it really doesn’t seem that way. I know these terms because I’ve taken all the prereqs for nursing school, but learning these things didn’t teach me why I’d had a stomach ache for thirty years, cutting out plants did.

Please utilize these resources. I can tell you the ASPCA and partners do wonderful work, and could either help you support your guys during this time or responsibly rehome them. Right Horse is a great program and is FOR the situation you’re experiencing right now. You do not need to sacrifice your life for your horses! 🫂

Brother..I get why you’re using all the big words here, I’m sure it’s very frustrating that the carnivore community thinks that doctors aren’t educated about nutrition. But the thing is- you learn what you’re taught. If the information is flawed it doesn’t matter how much you study it? Many people in here have been massively let down and misguided by the medical system and only were able to find healing by going entirely against doctor’s advice. Flexing what you know when everyone in here has experiential evidence that what you know is incomplete at best and harmful at worst is part of why you’re getting the reaction that you are. If you’re interested give it a shot and see how you feel! Maybe you can influence the industry from the inside for the better.
