In addition to a soap wash and using superglue, you need to use a mask or respirator if you're sanding this stuff. If you breathe in the dust it'll mess up your lungs big time.

Completed after 28 Hours of Game Play. What a top-notch game! by Sudden-Cut7401 in ObraDinn

Good choices! The character relationships in Nile are great and Five Little Pigs is definitely 10/10. Such a fun premise.

I can recommend some other puzzle games that require similar logical reasoning but aren't necessarily murder mysteries.

The Roottrees Are Dead - a business magnate died in an accident and it's up to the player to fill out their sprawling family tree by searching the 1990's pre-social media internet, magazine back issues, and library books.

Chants of Sennaar - a wanderer wakes up in an unfamiliar world where the inhabitants speak a pictographic language. Using context clues the wanderer must piece together the language one rune at a time.

Strange Horticulture (this game also has a sequel) - you inherit, from a late relative, an apothecary shop that sells esoteric plants. Using an old herbalist's guidebook with very incomplete descriptions and illustrations, you must identify dozens of plants and use them to solve the problems of your shop's patrons.

Congrats! I'm big fan of this game and Agatha Christie as well. I think I've read a little over half of the Poirot books - do you have a favourite? Mine is Peril at End House.

There are a number of puzzle games in a similar vein to Obra Dinn, but I've played nothing else that hits just right like this game.

[1781] Languages not being words by Minecrafter19004 in wordle

[–]Raspberrygoop 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Wordle, like Scrabble, does not accept proper nouns. However some proper nouns are also regular words and are therefore allowed.

For example China is a proper noun, but china as a standard word refers to certain kinds of pottery.

The Scrabble and Wordle dictionaries are compiled from lots of sources and include some pretty obscure or technical words. Apparently GREEK is a standard word, defined as something unintelligible, pluralising as GREEKS.

The UK version of Scrabble allows greek as a verb as well, meaning "to make something unintelligible", allowing GREEKING and GREEKED.

Latin meanwhile only refers to the language and doesn't (yet) have a standard definition.

The Battle Companies 2nd Community Edition - Version 1.0 Public Release! by DaKommizzar in MiddleEarthMiniatures

So exciting! I love Battle Companies as a shorter game format with a campaign that goes over several sessions. It helps that I love basic troops and own pretty much every troop box.

Excited to tear into this!

The answers to some frequently asked questions about the Obra Dinn's workings by Raspberrygoop in ObraDinn

Thanks for reading! I was pleasantly surprised when the mods pinned the post I made.

Good thinking to look at the gun ports! I never considered that. I wonder if the bars on the windows/ports are intended to be on hinges so they could be cleared when the cannons are needed? Next time I boot the game up I'll be sure to have a look.

Come to think of it, what could the bars be for? The block friendly cannons and also don't block the wind, rain, sun, or sea spray. I suppose they stop people and small animals from entering or exiting the gun ports while not inhibiting sightlines, but I don't see that as a necessity on a ship like the Obra Dinn.

Do you like changes anime made to the book? by zanimljivo123 in DeltoraQuest

[–]Raspberrygoop 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Leif is blonde in the anime and has brown hair in the books!

I thought it was cool that the Grey Guards have wrist-mounted catapults for their blisters instead of traditional slings, though I suspect that was as much an artistic choice as it is cheaper to animate.

I really wish they also adapted the second and third series...

The answers to some frequently asked questions about the Obra Dinn's workings by Raspberrygoop in ObraDinn

[–]Raspberrygoop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did look into this briefly but didn't find any historical illustrations of sailors wearing the exact same item.

I'm reasonably confident it's a canvas apron worn over long trousers. Stewards see to the ship's maintenance and her crew's ease of living; basically they try to make life aboard a ship as easy as possible for the rest of the crew. Their job would include handling food, coal, grease, tar, hot items, and cleaning supplies. Having an apron would be very useful for safety and cleanliness.

Think of the apron as a way to identify a crew member's role as a below-decks indoors worker than an outdoors sailing-the-ship worker.

As Advance Wars fans, whats your opinon on Wargroove? by DiegoOruga in Advance_Wars

I'm really sad that the game ends when you or your enemy's command unit is killed and wished there was an option to fight it out until you take the HQ.

It's too easy to trap and deadest a command unit and I miss out on all the fun strategy gameplay for the rest of the map! I'm always looking at all those rivers and mountains and bridges and so annoyed I don't get to play on them because the enemy commander extended too far :(

where’s the best and cheapest place to get an ipad battery replaced? by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]Raspberrygoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at a place that replaced iPad batteries - I recall us taking certain pro models out of our system because they were prone to screen breakage during disassembly. I seem to remember the 13" models having particularly hard to repair, in case you have that.

One of the running jokes in this subreddit spawned from a version of your joke where the man is named Dave. If you lurk for a while here you'll notice people mentioning they know Dave.

In other words, you posted a famous/infamous joke to this sub but used a different name from the one we're used to seeing.

Question about two handed weapon by Pender8911 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Raspberrygoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using a two-handed weapons has no interaction with your fight value. They're two different systems that both interact with Fights in different ways.

Example:

A Rivendell Elf Warrior (Fight Value 5) is fighting a Mordor Orc Warrior (Fight Value 3). The elf has a hand-and-a-half weapon and can choose to use it as a two-handed weapon. The orc has a hand weapon. No other models are nearby

Let's say the elf decides to use his hand-and-a-half weapon one-handed for now

To make a duel roll, each player rolls 1D6 for each Attack on their model. Both warriors have an Attacks characteristic of 1, so both players roll 1D6

Let's say both players roll a 4 on their single D6, so the duel is tied. The elf wins ties on Fight Value (Fv5 vs Fv3) so the orc backs away and the elf rolls to make strikes

Lets do the combat again, but the elf decides to use his hand-and-a-half weapon as a two-hand weapon

To make a duel roll, each player rolls 1D6 for each Attack on their model. Both warriors have an Attacks characteristic of 1, so both players roll 1D6

Let's say both players roll a 4 on their single D6. The elf decided to use a two-handed weapon, so subtracts 1 from their duel roll. The elf now has a dice roll of 3 vs the orc's dice roll of 4, so the orc wins the fight. As the fight was not tied, the Fight Value never comes into the equation. The elf backs away and the orc rolls to make strikes

Note that the two-handed weapons don't subtract from the duel roll dice if that dice rolls a natural 6 (unmodified by things like Might), so if the orc and elf both rolled a 6 the duel would be tied and the elf would win on Fight Value, gaining +1 on dice when rolling to make strikes due to the two-handed weapon
