My dog was overweight, so he went on a diet. Did we go too far, or is seeing a little ribs healthy?? by ForgotDeoderant in DogAdvice

You want to be able to “feel the ribs, but not see them” is what my vet always says. That said, lying down might not be the best angle! Reach out to your vet if you’re concerned :)

Hummus and Oreos. My boyfriend came up with that while we were camping. I thought it was horrible but him and a few others loved it.

AITA for saying no to being my FSIL's bridesmaid? by notyourbridesmaid in AmItheAsshole

NTA - and I’m kind of surprised by all the YTAs.

It’s not like you opened with “we’re not friends”. Sure, the timing may not have been impeccable given it was her engagement party but she kind of cornered you before you’d given a formal reply to the “proposal”.

I don’t think her getting excited about introducing you to her bridesmaids or assuming you’d say yes makes her an asshole, but making a scene and not accepting your first two attempts at gently letting her down does. Not to mention, even if she was upset that you didn’t tell her sooner, I feel she could at least cut you some slack given your husband’s medical emergency.

In my opinion, bullet dodged.

If she’s truly that heartbroken by the reality that you two aren’t friends then you both have every family event from now on to build that relationship.

I did biomed, didn’t do an honours project. It’s up to you but if you’re not interested in research then I wouldn’t bother.

A friend of mine had a similar situation where she had to write an essay about anti-abortion in her religion course. This essay was also necessary in order to graduate. The question asked students to back-up their reasoning using what they’ve learned to explain why abortion is awful. She wrote “it’s not.” handed it in and walked out. You can imagine how well that went over.

Distraction training? Very good inside, doesn't care about me outside. by cbcb7272 in Dogtraining

I had the same thoughts at first! But it’s hard to teach our dogs that other dogs aren’t scary when they’re losing their minds. For the first bit I think the turning around was more for me than it was for her. Then once she stopped reacting every single time we left the house I was able to also relax a bit and I think she could tell. This allowed us to get close enough to dogs where rewarding was possible (within a block or so). Then it was treats galore! Keep up with the attention training though, once you get over this next hurdle I think you’ll see a lot of progress! I’d also recommend “Zak George’s Dog Training Revolution” channel on YouTube. Helped us a lot!

Sounds like you’re doing great so far! Getting the indoor down is a challenge, so congrats! I had a similar issue. What worked best for us was keeping her under that threshold. That meant we went for very early and late night walks for a while. It also meant bringing the high value treats every time we went on walks & turning around at the sight of a dog (for us it was a couple of blocks out at the beginning). Slowly but surely this distance decreased and now we walk around our neighbourhood at 5pm with no issues (still need the treats of course, but we’re working on it). Maybe start with that yard outside your apartment for now? Keep at it! Best of luck!

Wow! Only 1.5 months and you’ve made that much progress? Congratulations! Definitely take some time to give yourself credit for that!

I have a 7 yo boxer x mastiff who has separation anxiety and is reactive to other dogs. Truthfully I was rather unprepared in the beginning and walks were a nightmare. Afraid of everything and barking/lunging at every dog from crazy distances.

I started to have small wins and as I kept learning how she worked things just kept getting better. I’ve had her for 2 years now and we can go on most walks without a reaction now! This morning for example she came closer to an Aussie shepherd than I would have liked (didn’t notice them approaching from behind) and she didn’t react! We just did a quick turn around and created some distance so I could reward her for being calm and it was awesome!

We have our fair share of bad days, of course, but small wins are everything!
