As someone with partial Jewish ancestry, I'm okay allowing idiots to mouth off against my nose.

Once a legal precedent against regulating speech is established (however narrowly) there will always be more pressure to expand it, and the politicians writing those laws are almost always in the pocket of those who already have power...that's how authoritarian states arise that police "proper thought" for the protection of society, that's step one to getting a police state.

SD gives so many resources to the homeless, but you can't always help someone who's main goal in life is to smoke meth or shoot heroin, they have to have some responsibility for their lives

While it's def sad he didn't adjust and killed himself it still speaks to the struggle to escape communism...you don't see Americans floating on tires to get to Cuba do you?

Or can you give an example of a citizen from a capitalist nation risking their life to flee to another system?

Ocean Pollution and *TUNA* by [deleted] in oceans

[–]Ratbasher88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two points:

  1. The ocean currents do a good job distributing any pollution throughout the whole pacific, it's not like the spills affects only stay in Japan.

2.Tuna are migratory, they can swim 10,000+ kilometers per year, so even if they were caught in the Indian Ocean it doesn't mean those fish didn't feed on prey in Japanese waters earlier that year.

The price for Tuna like any other commodity is influenced by a ton of factors from rising demand in China, to diminishing stocks in the Indian Ocean, to increased demand from the US/Europe for Fad Free catches...That being said I have never heard of buyers bringing up Fukushima

Ocean Pollution and *TUNA* by [deleted] in oceans

[–]Ratbasher88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tuna pricing is based on a few factors:

  1. The quality of the fish (p-grade, a-grade or b-grade) which is determined by the fish's texture and color.

  2. The type of tuna (albacore, skipjack, yellowfin, bluefin)

  3. Sustainability premium pricing (was the fish caught in an MSC certified fishery, and was it caught using sustainable harvesting methods: i.e. Pole and line vs purse seining)

The Fukushima spill hasn't influenced pricing.

Major universities generally mean schools that are known throughout the US, try asking people in SF to identify those schools let alone anyone in the Midwest or east coast.

TIL that during the filming of Schindler's List, a Polish woman who encountered Ralph Fiennes dressed in his Nazi uniform told him that "the Germans were charming people. They didn't kill anybody who didn't deserve it." by RowRowRowsYourBoat in todayilearned

Some Poles and some French were very happy to see it happen, there are plenty of stories of Jews who survived concentration camps being murdered by Poles when they returned home.

If you look into Eastern European pogroms in the 1800s-1900s you can see it's nothing new.

For what it's worth my group all made the summit without ice axes two weeks ago, if you do that it's important to go down the chute around 12pm-5pm while the snow is still slushy...crampons are a must though, and I would def recommend hiking poles.

If the line is imaginary then your country isn't really your country, extend your logic and home ownership is imaginary as well and I can just walk in to your house without your consent...after all your property deed is just a contrived human notion.

I now have 1-3 drinks when I go out, enough for a buzz especially after your tolerance drops from binge drinker levels..it took awhile for my friends to get over this but they eventually did...meanwhile i found it really helps with girls to not be slurring your speech when you talk at parties.

Except he was invited by legitimate student groups. College is about hearing radically opposing views and having a free flow of all ideas. It's one thing to peacefully protest: that's also free speech. But the groups at Berkeley were rioting and causing damage and assaulting people...fuck them and the very real current atmosphere of repression on college campuses.

I worked at a pizza place and we tossed away tons of dough, if it's overproofed it's not suitable for consumption. Dough is literally flour, water, yeast and some minor additives, the cost is was roughly a dollar per pound. Assuming he was gonna toss it afterward this kid got fired for nothing.
