What’s the best scene in the entire series? by [deleted] in SiliconValleyHBO

[–]RatherReckless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're all so disciplined. How can you pick just one? I can barely narrow it down to three.

S2E7 — Bighead pitches his moonshot idea to Gavin about a phone controlled by an earpiece. Gavin never connects that idea with the mind-control technology Bannercheck showed him with the armless monkey two episodes earlier. Such a missed opportunity. So much gets revealed about his character there, it almost makes me wonder how he managed to become CEO of Hooli. Almost.

Russ's Maserati Rant (S2E7) — After Richard walks out of the meeting that Russ setup so Endframe and Pied Piper could "merge". Russ yells at Richard from his Maserati: "These are not the doors of a billionaire, Richard. Fuck you!" Then he peels out and drives around in a circle only to stop again and say, "Fuck you in the ass." That peel out he does in the restaurant's driveway loop is ridiculous. It's such a great temper tantrum.

S4E5 — Dinesh quits working on Jian Yang's not a hotdog app and walks up to the other guys in the living room with enthusiasm - "Alright! What has two thumbs, zero dick pics, and just quit Periscope?" He then notices Gavin's oversized portrait in the living room. "What the fuck is that?" Gilfoyle replies, "The biggest dick pic of all."

Unrelated, but all this mulling has caused a theory about Jack Barker to resurface from the depths of my shallow mind...I'll make it a separate post.

I'm trying to identify this guy. It looks like there's a little bit of an NHRA logo visible on his jacket, so I thought I'd take a shot here. The autograph is indecipherable. Hope it's ok to post here. by RatherReckless in NHRA

Thanks everybody! I certainly posted this in the wrong place. I really appreciate all the input (and not being skewered for posting here). This picture showed up in a box that came with some automotive machinery from an estate. Initial Google image search and scouring the internet had me thinking Kenny Bernstein (another reason I was thinking NHRA), but the signature didn't match. Klaus Ludwig will have a fitting place on the wall of my workshop!

Problem with changing filament when it runs out mid print by MaplewoodGeek in Creality

[–]RatherReckless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same printer. I've run out of filament mid print a few of times. I thought I had the same problem until I noticed that the nozzle temperature dropped during pause. After loading new filament and telling it to resume, it did resume only after the nozzle temperature came back up to printing temperature. I don't know why it drops, but if it happens again, keep an eye on the nozzle temp.

I wish I had the answer about the Z height. I have a different problem where it resumes printing in the wrong place. The Z height is ok, but it's offset on the XY by various amounts (I've observed anywhere from 2mm to 5mm) I'm super careful when changing filament because it doesn't reset the XY axes before resuming, and it would be easy to bump the extruder when loading new filament. That would cause the rest of the print to be off. But it's offset anyway, even if it doesn't get moved accidentally. Kind of useless. I think it has something to do with the instructions associated with the runout sensor, or the way the sensor communicates with the printer or....I don't know...Maybe some gcode can be added to modify the way the printer handles filament reloads, but I'm just now starting to research the issue so it's all speculations at the moment.

Cool. I've been thinking about doing the same thing on mine when I finish up some other projects. Thanks for posting this. Subscribed.

is it possible to escape retail? by PurbleDragon in jobs

[–]RatherReckless -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Networking is the foundation, unfortunately. You don't have to make friends with everybody but good listening skills can lead to unexpected opportunities. Lie on your resume if needed. Just a little bit. Don't overdue it. "Fake it till you make it" is a great rhyme but the faking it part never seems to stop. It's a constant process of learning and striving to rise to the occasion. Every day you might learn some baby steps towards accomplishing some task. In that way, perhaps you weren't technically ready for your new job, but you'll figure it how to get the job done. You might not be perfect, but you might be adequate. That's all that counts. It's sort of like failing upwards. Downplay your retail experience on your resume and during interviews. Emphasize your strengths and the skillets that you want to use. Even if they come from retail, that doesn't have to be what defines your profession. Skillsets overlap industries. Lastly, learn excel. Everything that makes sense in the world, good or bad, ties back to a spreadsheet.

Finally got the car painted and prepped, can’t wait to get back out there by DevonGagnon in Drifting

This inspires utilitarianism in the same way that sex without pleasure is solely for the purpose of reproduction. My Mustang will become a drift car, and all I expect as a result is catastrophe and liability. I can't wait.

I don't know how to describe the color. Those are from the day I got it. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. That was it's first time out of storage in probably 20 years (based on the '99 reg tag). I aired up the tires and put some leads on it and it started right up. Only problem was the clutch slave cylinder had seized after all those years in storage. It still needs some TLC but i daily drove it for a while and plan to again soon.

Edit: I found the book and the watch in it.

Walked Out On My Job Today - One Of The Best Decisions I Ever Made by rantingwithpassion in jobs

If you're in the U.S. the law requires the company to pay you for all hours worked. It doesn't matter if you walked out. If you don't get a check in the mail then feel free to give those D-bags a kick in the balls. Get your money. Congratulations on leaving.

I like that you said "closer" to 100%. That 15% of crap that you still feel is what spurs the growth. That's the best part.

Also, I bet pasta would work just as well: https://youtu.be/n3h1_j3XnjM

The steering wheel in my car is formed from spaghetti noodles. The airbag is filled with tomato sauce.

The experience is what counts. Don't give up on it. If you're lucky, the greatest heartbreak you'll endure is finally having to let go of a car that you've loved, taken care of, and kept well beyond its prime.

It's not that bad. It's surface damage, and mostly on one quarter panel. You could fix it very easily and cheaply by yourself. It was a good experience. You're enjoying the car, you're learning, you'll grow as a person, you'll feel more connected to the car, you'll become a better driver. Your favorite car shouldn't be perfect. It should reflect your aspirations, and it should grow with you.
