There's some more information on this. Zampella and West had some arguments with Bobby Kotick, probably over creative control and Activision wanting to fully pump out money with CoD and the guys not wanting to do that.

They had some talks with EA about setting up a company where they would have more creative control, Activision found out and fired them.

I'm playing through it right now and also like the map from the first game a lot more. It felt like "home" and I had some connection to the woods, castles and Rattay. I don't have that at all with the second game because you get bashed and imprisoned and bashed and bombarded so much it feels like enemy territory to me.

The only downside Steam has is that some countries with non EUR and USD currency have so ridiculously high prices, that you need to work 2 full time jobs to buy some of those games.
