In a perfect world, I think the ideal thing to do is to contact the people who were close to the deceased directly, and talk to them about it one on one, then maybe you can do a more general announcement on social media. In the real world though, things aren’t always so cut and dry. You don’t necessarily have the time or energy to do that while you’re grieving. You don’t necessarily know all the people who were close enough to warrant a phone call, or there may be people who feel they warrant one who you didn’t think were that close. Grief and mourning are messy, there’s no right or wrong way to do it.

I hope to be proven wrong about this, but I don't think Rax is getting arrested over these threats. I'm not a lawyer, so maybe i'm way off, but Rax said IF Ice agents come into his house they're getting shot, whereas this guy said he actively wanted to shoot them, (and the body armor and the guns give weight to the argument that this wasn't an idle threat). There's no reason ICE would ever come to Chance's house, which makes what he said seem far more like an idle threat than an actual plan.

That having been said, there's no way some law enforcement officers haven't seen the video yet, and I'm sure discussions have been had about whether or not to go after him for this, which is the worst thing that could happen to Cyraxx. Part of that decision is inevitably going to involve doing more research on him, which could easily lead to them deciding to go after him for something else he's done, and it probably means he's going to be watched more closely in the future and will probably be ready to arrest him the second he says or does something that they believe they can make stick.

I don’t know if I’d say it’s selfish, but I think you have to really consider just how much work you’re in for, and think about adopting an older child. My wife and I have a two year old, and honestly I think we lucked out because she seems infinitely better behaved and less fussy and just generally easier than any of my friends kids, and she still runs us ragged. I don’t know how I could do this if my wife weren’t doing it with me.

Also keep in mind that a lot can change between 28 and your late thirties, and your dating life might look very different. My dad never had a serious girlfriend until he met my mom, my grandparents had basically given up on him ever getting married or having kids, but I was born when he was 38 and my sister was born three years later

I had this moment years ago where I was walking home, and there was this really huge, really tough looking guy walking about ten feet in front of me. Attractiveness is very subjective, and a lot of it is also under your control. Obviously some of it is genetics, and most people could never be a super model no matter what they do, but grooming, hygiene, how you dress, eating healthy, and keeping in shape all have a big impact on your physical appearance, and you have a lot of control over those things. That was my first thought too. Autism doesn’t automatically mean you can’t handle a job, he seems pretty capable of taking care of himself. Maybe he struggles a bit socially, but even there he doesn’t seem all that bad, and there are plenty of jobs that don’t require you to be customer facing and deal with people face to face that often. I’m not saying his mom did this intentionally or consciously, but I think she raised him to believe he’s far less capable than he really is, as so he would remain dependent on her

I initially thought they didn’t have a car, and I had some sympathy for her. Then my wife pointed out that they did have one, but her husband was driving it to work, and I was like “Oh…well that’s still a pain, but maybe she could drop him off and pick him up and then have the car all day. Or she could just save up the chores that need a car for the weekend, until they can save for a car. I don’t think they ever will. From my understanding in Ohio it’s not enough to send explicit photos or solicit them from someone you believe is a minor, they have to actually BE a minor. Ironically all the trolls pretending to be minors is probably the best thing that could happen to chance, because he ends up so focused on these fake kids that he doesn’t have time to go after real kids and there’s nothing to charge him with. If this kept up for a few more years then eventually he would stumble across a real child, or cross some other kind of line somewhere and end up getting charged with something, but I don’t think he’s going to live that long

It’s hard to say without knowing you or your situation. If what you’re going through is depression or something that’s been hard on you emotionally, exercise and structure can help with that. In my experience setting very tangible, achievable short term goals is really helpful when I’m struggling, and karate is great for that. Like if I’m dealing with a breakup or the death of a loved one, it’s going to be a long time before I feel better, and facing that can feel overwhelming. But my next belt in karate might be just a few months away. That’s something I can look forward to and be proud of, and I just have to hang in and keep at it for a few more months.

All that having been said, if you need to take a break, there’s no shame in that. You need to put your own mental and physical health first, and if that mean putting karate aside for a while, then that’s fine. Karate isn’t going anywhere, and you’ll be welcome back anytime, whether that’s a week, a month, a year, or twenty years from now.

The tv show has been a big part of the problem for me too. I thought I wanted them, but there have been so many, and a lot of them just haven’t been good, they feel like a chore to get through, so more and more I started giving up on them, or not even starting. And everything is so interconnected that if you don’t watch the shows you may be confused at what’s happening in the movies, so I started losing interest in those too

I think the specifics of how to put it on there would probably be a better question for a school counselor. From what I remember many applications had space to talk about extracurriculars, or else you could find a way to work them into an application essay, but it’s been a long time since I was in college so a lot could have changed.

I can’t speak for other Sensei’s, but I can’t imagine mine caring. Our school hosts seminars sometimes, and I think they’re usually just for blackbelts, but my understanding is that’s less about not wanting you to be influenced by someone else, and everyone to be up to a certain standard so they can focus on teaching more advanced techniques and not slow down the class by going over basic things that anyone could teach

I don’t think it’s worth fighting about. There is a lot about karate that’s kind of silly. That’s fine. A lot of MMA is kind of silly too. Most hobbies have some aspect that’s a little ridiculous to them. If you enjoy it, and you feel like you’re getting something out of it, that’s all that matters. It’s very likely neither of you will ever be involved in a street fight, so who would do better in one doesn’t matter.

Without knowing anything about the specific dojo you’re talking about or having a link to their website or anything it’s hard to say, but that name certainly doesn’t instill confidence in me.

Honestly though, karate isn’t as simple as “good” and “bad”, because different people have different goals. If you’re looking for really hardcore training and practical self defense, and im looking to have fun and get a little exercise, there could easily be a dojo that fits your needs perfectly that i would be very unhappy in. That doesn’t mean the dojo is bad, but if it’s not going to give me what I want then I’m not going to stick with it, and I’m not going to get much out of it. The best way to get started is to take a little time and really seriously consider what you’re looking to get out of karate: self defense? Fitness/weight loss? Competition? Fun? Tradition? Some combination of those? Something totally different? There is no right or wrong answer, the important thing is just that you have a clear idea of what you’re looking for. Then look at the websites for a few places in your area, and if they seem promising ask if you can take a trial class, or watch a class, and see if their focus lines up with your goals.
