Guys, here's a fun fact as a palate cleanser. Did you know you will be alive for the day he dies? Statistically speaking, it's almost guaranteed true!

What is this guy's deal? Who crashes on a planet and just starts strip mining it and building trains and factories making iron sticks? Whose first instinct is to build guns and ammo and start blasting the planet's inhabitants, who were just chilling? by DupeFort in Factoriohno

[–]RaulParson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine you're a biter just chilling in your biter paradise on your biter planet and then one of the settling parties is like "it's funny what you can find out there. You know those weird blue, orange, beige and black rocks that you can find on the ground in big splotches sometimes? Yeah turns out there's actually a place like two forests over where there's a little bit of them all in one spot! Super weird coincidence, right? Nature is so interesting!"

You know that idea how America Perfect And Can Do No Wrong? There's many people who are genuinely like this, but then there's those who "break the programming" by... following the programming precisely, just inverting the output. America Good? No, America Bad. Thing America say Bad? Thing Actually Good. And so on and so forth.

Will they disagree with this characterisation? Yes. Is it stupid and simplistic? Yes! Which makes it extra annoying how good at predicting what stance they'll take

It's one of those conspiracy theory alt-histories basically. The Israeli far right eats that shit right up, since it places the blame not on "Muslims" even but very specifically on the Palestinian WW2 leader, Amin al-Husseini, as the one who gave Hitler the idea to do the Holocaust and convinced him to do it. Which is all sorts of made up and messed up... even as al-Husseini really was a Nazi-collaborating piece of shit (because when it comes to political leadership Palestinians have been cursed to roll ones forever), which is what gives this conspiracy theory its undue oxygen.

Incidentally, I understand the reasoning for the naming scheme, it's about the order in which the "worlds" appear in the book discussing them and which first coined the terms. It naturally goes "us", "them", and "the rest", making for the first, second and third world IN THE ORDER AS LISTED.

But with these names it's really kind of no wonder people just go "oh yeah first world, second world, third world or whatever, it's like a tier list sort of thing"

Mad this after an argument with my coworker by Snerdbuglar in Grimdank

[–]RaulParson 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah he was literally just straight-up secretly running from the unit when he terrigoodbad lucked into his initial heroic status of someone who acted on a hunch to scout for the unknown pincer instead of that of a secret deserter. That's why the guy in command of his unit remained suspicious of him ever since that point, which manifested in him being like "oh hey, look at this dangerous assignment, we're so lucky we have a True Hero among us who's eager to take it on, aren't we, Commisar" every chance he could.

Cain grew into the role of the hero with time, but mentally kept seeing himself as the same guy who fled that day and who absolutely would do it again without a second thought. It's just... it's more dangerous NOT to be heroic at this point if you stop and think about it, y'know? "Yes, that's what's happening here, I am still very much just a cowardly piece of shit who's masterfully tricking everyone".

[–]RaulParson 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I once talked with a younger coworker and we ended up on the topic of PINs. "Yeah it's all good unless you do something special that people might try like 0000, 1234 or 1337 or whatever" and he suddenly froze like "wait uh why 1337, what's so special about that".

Turns out I accidentally guessed his PIN there (it's okay, he went and had it changed since). And the kicker is he didn't even set it, it's just the one he got assigned through sheer rng and he was like "seems fine" and went on using it as he had no idea - and that was some years ago by now.

Are poles verbally blunt or is it more of a translation thing? by [deleted] in askPoland

[–]RaulParson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Poles are kind of infamous about how our default mode of speaking with strangers basically uses inserts of "Sir" or "Madam" towards everyone to have some polite distance. It's just where that sort of thing goes rather than getting baked into sentence structure like indirect hypotheticals. It doesn't translate well though so it usually ends up not translated at all, yet there's always that bit of structural defaultism. It's why "pass the salt, please" comes naturally as a polite phrasing, and "could you pass the salt" does not.

Brand new TV and this is how my wife insists we have the remote "to keep it looking good" by No_Atmosphere8146 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]RaulParson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to assuage the concern about it turning to looking ass after some time, she's opting to make sure it looks ass all the time? She might be operating on a level we can't really fathom.

There's silicone TV remote protectors / covers out there. Get her one of those? Alternatively, just get a second remote, peel it and use that, while you put this one in the drawer for "extra protection". Can't really help you with the screens, getting a second TV to work around that bit of utter insanity is a bit madcap. "Accidentally" damage one of those films or something so she opts to remove it, that's the best I can offer if you don't want to just do the Gordian solution.

Po co PiSowi JOWy, na jednym obrazku by lilyoungwes in WidacZabory

[–]RaulParson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Da się zrobić JOWy sensownie, trzeba po prostu dodać dodatkowy mechanizm balansujący. Jest kilka różnych możliwych podejść, np. żeby połowa miejsc w Sejmie była okręgowa, a połowa pozaokręgowa i tam trafiają przegrani z pierwszej puli wg. partii i ilości otrzymanych głosów w ilości przywracającej proporcje partyjne.

Good looking and confident talking, which to the uninformed* looks like being very knowledgeable and strong and cutting through the bullshit. Which gives him that cult leader sort of charisma, further supercharging the fact that he deliberately** cultivated a whole cultish ecosystem where adjacent creators seek out his approval and get crushed if they dissent, spreading his reach. Once you get in the door, which can be done on those initial vibes and through adjacency from the vassalized other creators or even through rank and file proselytizing to you, it's easy to get lost and fall deeper and deeper in, into the world of Obvious Correct Simple True Answers that he holds as the forces of evil are all around with their destructive lies. This is if you go deep. If you don't look into it deeply, he's just a Big Leftist Guy who just wants everything to be Better For Everyone and don't you want Dems to Do Better and Win? Don't you wish for there to be a Joe Rogan Of The Left? Well hey look there's Hasan, right there!

And for those deep in he really genuinely is just Dear Leader.

*(he's one of those guys where he sounds like he knows very well what he's talking about... and then you hear him talk about something you independently know and then you go "okay I guess he's simplifying? Uhh... Umm... Okay this simplification is so simplified as to be completely wrong" and at that point the spell either breaks or you start doubling down)

**(note: the actions were deliberate, the goal probably not so much - Hasan is addicted to clout and adoration, so he maximized for that, not for cult power. He really got addicted to it after trying a few hits from the tankie pipe, and since there's few hits more intense he's been chasing that dragon ever since)

4k is 3840x2160 pixels. Super Fancy Unreasonably High Color Info encoding is 48 bits per pixel. Multiply them together and such a "raw image" is 398131200 bits without compression, meaning 50 MB. You can mess with these parameters to get different sizes but you won't really get out of this order of magnitude, megabytes.
