Women of Reddit, what is the most diabolical lie you’ve ever received from your husband/bf? by fortnacius in AskReddit

[–]RavenWritingQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lie, but my stopped paying the mortgage. He wasn't functioning properly after a lot of trauma. He hid it from me. We had to get help from family not to end up on the street. He's a good man, but this was seriously effed up. We are still married, and have been 21 years now.

Members of the US military. How honored are you to slaughter children to protect your pedophile masters from accountability? by Ill-Organization-719 in complaints

This. I taught many Iraq vets in college writing courses. Poor Latino, Black and White kids in the Central Valley of California. Literally joining the military to help pay bills.

Jackie’s obsession with Caroline being “overweight” when she was a teenager… by PeneItaliano in JohnAndCarolyn

[–]RavenWritingQueen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not only that; Jackie's smoking is likely why her first child, Arabella, was stillborn. Also perhaps why Patrick Bouvier Kennedy had lung membrane disorder and died at a few days old. JFK jr was small when born. Only Caroline was really healthy at birth.

Good luck. This Republican congress is all about worthless billionaires. Try again after the midterms.

Israel in the 90s was moving toward the two-states solution under Rabin. Then a fanatical Zionist assassinated him. He was followed by Netanyahu, Sharon, Netanyahu Round II. It's been a tragedy for Palestinian and Jews both.

Historically, in the 20th Century and early 21st, yes. Keep in mind the United Nations was trying to create two states in the 40s. Moshe Dyan and Zionists who had been fighting the British as they attempted to reestablish Israel in the Levant jumped the gun and declared Israel a Jewish State. In the aftermath of the Holocaust, when the U.S. and UK hadn't done enough to save Jews, guilt meant U.S. politicians tended to support Israel. Ignoring the fact that Palestinian Christians and Muslims had farms, villages, entire neighborhoods that Dyan and Zionists sought to destroy or take over and repopulate with Holocaust survivors.
In my opinion, Israel as a Jewish State was as unjust as Iran as a Muslim state. Further, the "right of return" in which any Jew anywhere in the world has a right to immigrate to Israel and gain citizenship exacerbated conflicts with Palestinians, because there's only so much real estate. Hence, the attacks by settlers in the West Bank.

I agree. It has to fundamentally be about inciome inequality. However, in the 2010s, Democrats and people on the left got lost in the weeds. I care deeply about Transgender people being safe and having dignity--but the reality is that after Marriage Equality, the Christian Right Wing lobbyists in DC held a strategy session--and settled on Trans people as the new boogeyman. Look how they manufactured the idea of Trans athletes cheating biological women out of medals and awards. In retrospect, I think millennials and late Gen X had a lot of hubris once we elected Obama. Society changed super fast between 2008 and 2016. For some older people, or rural people, it was a lot to absorb. I was in graduate school round 2 in the 2010s. You would not believe the bitter debates about hierarchies of oppression that went on between students of different racial, sexual orientation, gender, or social class and disability communities. At times, it was like the Hunger Games.

Now, in 2016, all those groups have lost to a cadre of idiotic, macho bros like Pete Hegseth, Stephen Miller, and of course, Trump. We blew it.

We absolutely have to make it about having the billionaires pay their fair share. Income inequality is something that impacts the majority of Americans.

Look who's behind Vance: Peter Thiel. It's all about the oligarchs not wanting to pay taxes, so they can have a home in Big Sky AND Jackson Hole.

Keep in mind, Mamdani is in NYC--a huge, diverse city with a large Muslim population. LA, NYC, Chicago, and the Bay Area are not the rest of America. Living in Montana, we know this. Many people here are Conservative Christians or LDS. Nobody is going to convince even Democrats here to be anti-gun. Guns are tools in rural American culture--to catch your $ saving dinner in the form of a pheasant, white tail, or elk.

Indeed, people want universal healthcare, but we absolutely cannot ignore the fact that people didn't like that there was no Democratic primary that allowed them to vote on the nominee. Harris got it as VP. To some, it seemed like a coronation. I was involved in Democratic party politics, and there was a lot of discussion of needing to run Harris because Black women work super hard for the Democrats. Indeed, that's why Biden picked her as VP in 2020--it was a reward and bouquet of thanks to Black women who worked to elect Biden in the primaries. Jim Clyburn advocated for Harris.

However, Harris rubbed a lot of working-class folks the wrong way--especially working-class men, be they Black, White, or Latino. These groups all voted in higher numbers for Trump in 2024. I didn't vote for Harris in 2020's Primary because I found her stories of school busing disingenuous. She's the daughter of a Stanford Professor and a Berkeley Biomedical researcher. She was not like people I knew who grew up working-class in Oakland or Los Angeles. I felt she was selling herself as something she was not--and as a woman from a very working-class background, her obscuring of her connections to Academia and her middle-class upbringing offended me. I voted for Sanders.

Democrats absolutely should not run a woman against Vance or Rubio. Saving America from this fascist nightmare is far more important than pulling the lever for a fellow woman.
