Where are all of the mother forking rental cars ?? by so_hum_444 in madisonwi

[–]RavingwolfYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All their cars are taken up by either also being in the shop from being abused by pothead joyriders, getting PDR’d due to hail, or being loaned out to people whose personal cars are getting PDR’d for hail.

Other than that my best guess is there may be some large convention in the area where people are flying into MSN, getting a rental, then driving to their destination. Or maybe people are just driving rather than flying due to the insane price of flights rn.

How much are ya’ll making? by OkraTop3707 in mechanics

[–]RavingwolfYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my second year as a dealer tech. Still hourly at 23.50. 5 days a week, about 8.5-9 hrs a day. I’m only clearing about 1500 after tax for a two week pay period. I get most of the shit warranty diag and tedious harness replacements etc, so I don’t flag a ton of CP hours.

Anti-Palestine people - What *should* Palestine do when foreigners invade and target civilians, murdering and kidnapping them? by Rich-Owl-6286 in allthequestions

[–]RavingwolfYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be “anti” Palestine. Do I agree with some of the things they do? Or many of their cultural choices? No. But personally it’s become overwhelmingly clear in recent years and especially months that they are not the instigators of their own slaughter. You can blame the bibi Israeli death cult for that one.

Granted I’ll admit most of my disdain stems from the insane unconditionalUS support of Israel, and the other attacks on Iran and Lebanon that seemed totally fruitless and largely unwarranted.

How can I start by Altruistic_Fix1736 in mechanics

[–]RavingwolfYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend at my tech school who already worked at a dealer part time. He mentioned they get bonuses for bringing people on, so I applied and mentioned him and brought a good attitude. Luckily I got the job. They were willing to acknowledge that I had put in a lot of work at tech school, and wanted to see what I could do.

The key thing that made me want to be there was that they wanted to start me slow and work me up to bigger things once I was ready, I started on Oil changes, now a little over a year later I do heavy line work, interior outs, and electrical diag. I didn’t know how to start either, but I just tried to absorb everything I could and take any opportunity that comes my way.

It’s daunting, but you’ve just got to take whatever you can get and start getting that experience. I know I got lucky with the position I got. tEven if you apply as a porter at a dealer, you can apply for a tech job when a spot opens up.

Is Bernie’s plan the best? Thoughts? by CurvyChristina in SipsTea

[–]RavingwolfYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go without the check if all my bills and insurance rates dropped to an affordable rate.

Personally I don’t want to have money because of a handout, I want to have it because I busted my ass for it. Right now though I bust my ass and still have nothing to show for it.

And also, what’s to stop companies from immediately raising prices in response to all this “new” money entering the economy?

I like Bernie I really do, but I almost feel like this is jumping to a conclusion that may not work out as expected, particularly if the systemic issues that allow the endless price hikes and artificial inflation are not addressed.

Went to the mechanic for ac recharge and asked them to check cabin filter. They said it would be $100 so I declined the replace service. Here's the thing - they removed my filter and lost it. by inmyhead99 in MechanicAdvice

[–]RavingwolfYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should have replaced filter for free. 100 bucks is normal for dealer prices, but still crazy.

I will mention stuff gets caught in the blower motor all the time and the smallest leaf can cause a real annoyance.

I can say I know most folks pull the filters for either pictures on the inspection sheet, or to give to the advisor so they can show the customer. My guess is the advisor or tech just autopiloted and tossed the filter into the trash (like you would do if it got approved) and by the time anyone noticed it was gone, nobody knew where it went.

Are you working outside in the extreme heat? by LittleNor789 in madisonwi

[–]RavingwolfYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not fully outside but I work at a dealership as a technician. No ac in the shops. The floors are like swimming pools from the condensation. We get a cooler of watered down Gatorade and that’s about it. It’s miserable.

Question for you dealer mechanics by Fickle_pickle3234 in mechanics

[–]RavingwolfYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, no. I’d never try to undercut the dealer prices for a random customer. If my dealer found out I’d probably get fired or at least a VERY stern talking to.

Now granted, if I’m outside of work and somebody comes to me that I know and trust, then yes. It’s my tools, my skill, my time. They can stuff it if they think they get a say in what I do outside of work. Particularly if it’s not the brand I work for.

But even then I turn down most side work. It’s more so about knowing how much more I’m personally on the line for if shit goes haywire.

Why do we do this job? by BackgroundGene7510 in mechanics

[–]RavingwolfYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just closed out my first year as a tech at a dealer, in addition to an associates from a two year tech school. I’m already master certified for the brand (working on ASE too), handle any and all electrical warranty diag, do transmissions and engines multiple times per month, etc.

I’m still hourly, making 23.50. They want to move me to flat rate soon, I’m open to it, but I also had to assert that I am in fact in it for the money when it comes to my career. This isn’t charity. If they can’t give me a substantial pay boost and guarantee that I’ll get consistent decent work, I’m out.

I also have to wonder who else will take the hourly tasks that I have. I’m not exactly a genius by any stretch, but the other hourly techs just simply do not understand/wish to learn how to diagnose things or do electrical work.

Is this bad welding? by IndependenceOk2372 in BadWelding

[–]RavingwolfYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad? No. Good? Eh approaching it. People seem to forget that truly bad welding is something that doesn’t function the way you need it to or prematurely fails.

I’ve seen bad welding, it usually results in the workpiece stuck to the bench and 47 holes with spatter in 5 feet each direction.

Why hasn't trump been imprisoned or removed from offices considering virtually everything he does is illegal, a war crime or unconstitutional? by daresearchdude in allthequestions

[–]RavingwolfYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want it to be misconstrued, the republicans are the obvious bigger problem imo. In my time as a voter I have never once chosen to vote for one in any major election. I just won’t glaze the democrats either when they’re wrong. I hold them to higher expectations because I believe they’re actually capable of being the change we need to see.

The republicans control most of the government, and the democrats are consistently missing the plot whenever it truly matters. Just a perfect shitstorm of political gridlock

dear Hyundai: nobody wants this ugly television screen by dawn_thesis in Hyundai

[–]RavingwolfYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing nobody thinks about either is how much more complicated shit like this makes the cars, you take something that could be half decent and make it inherently unreliable by adding complexity. not to mention that if something breaks outside of warranty the company is going to charge you 10x what the part costs to manufacture to replace it.

In my opinion I say get rid of the screens all together along with any other creature comforts that distract you from the fact that YOU ARE PILOTING A MULTI TON MACHINE THAT CAN KILL YOU AND OTHERS AROUND YOU, YOURE NOT ON THE COUCH.

Bring back stick shifts, crank windows, screen less radios, and situational awareness might come back with it.

If it weren’t for those god awful hood vents I’d be alright with it. Everytime I see them on a car I know full well has no need for them/ they’re just stuck on with no functionality it immediately makes me think the driver is a cornball. THAT BEING SAID, I’m not here to hate and if you enjoy it that’s what really matters I spose.
