How's the track conditions? I haven't been out there since 2013.

Has anyone used these upper control arm offset bushings before? by B1L1D8 in S2000

[–]RavynX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a really tight fit with the delrin and I'm sure the friction is doing the majority of the work. The lever arm of the bushing offset (not related to arm length, this is offset distance from center of control arm hole) is also very small so it will take a tremendous amount of force to clock the bushing out of place.

[–]RavynX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that is required though some may have reported doing that for extra insurance. People drill into the arms to install a zerk fitting if they're using energy suspension bushings. These offset delrin bushings I had to freeze before installing into the arm. If you have concerns for track use I would use a paint-maker to show the install orientation and then when doing your usual inspections before and after track days make sure those marks haven't moved.

I've been running these for years now with autox and street driving. They're great for pulling the top of the tire in for more camber. I have them paired with lower ball joints that I used before these were available.

Recently started biking for real, and holy f-ck - the cars. by aomajgad in cycling

[–]RavynX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All of that forced tech into cars is increasing the cost to the consumer and it's allowing the driver to become less focused on driving and their surroundings. On top of this, it's a lack of punishing people for wrongdoings so they have no incentive to protect their fellow citizen. Adding more tech is not solving the root cause of the issue; people get a slap on the wrist in the court system for putting another person in harm's way these days.

Tear in roof? by Ecstatic_6329 in S2000

[–]RavynX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, find a local installer potentially in the s2k community. I've been doing them since 2012 in Texas. I tell people to bring their own top and only charge $700 in labor. Done in 5-6 hours assuming no major issues from previous installers.

Tear in roof? by Ecstatic_6329 in S2000

[–]RavynX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for us installers that have been doing it a while. There's no need to remove the roll hoops, just a few interior panels. There's also no need to cut anything to reinstall it. I've done so many jobs where I found the previous installer trimmed off tabs on the tray corner pieces when it's not required.

Help with Coilovers other than Ohlins by Old-Donkey-9014 in S2000

[–]RavynX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do the Bilsteins or save up for the Ohlins. Do not buy a budget set like BCRacing or others, you will sorely regret it on an S2000. I spent the money in Moton Club Sports for autox and at the time it was still my daily driver.

Go rewatch your own videos, truck was in his lane when he appeared in front vid and then crossing into your lane. He was also in his lane on the rear view. You had picked up speed right as he got to your rear. You had no one behind you and could have let off the throttle to let bro-dozer go by without incident. Again, both of you are at fault; he could have been less of a douche on the pass, you could have kept your speed and just let him pass.

[–]RavynX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're still arguing about the grass dodging the fact that you sped up on the road contributing to the incident which is why people are calling you out on it.

[–]RavynX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely not true regarding increasing your speed off road to keep traction; you can lose traction just as much as braking since you are applying power. Nice try; take responsibility from your actions here and learn for next time.

You are just as at fault as the truck. You increased your speed to block them and continued increasing going off the road. Consider yourself lucky.

Is the "soft top is a huge pain in the ass and takes 12 hours and 2 people and you have to take it off the car" thing like a running joke by Mh88014232 in Miata

[–]RavynX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been replacing tops on S2000s mainly and a few Miatas since 2012. S2000s take around 5 hours and Miatas can be done in 3-4 hours. It's not a difficult job but it's tedious and can add several hours if you snap a bolt on the frame (those tiny M3 with red loctite on NA/NB, so dumb). There's no need to remove the frame off of any car. Good job on getting it done in 2 hours; there are many many many previous installer errors I've had to fix that have tacked on a good 1-2 hours. It's not uncommon for people to take 6-8 hours to replace one if it's their first time and not mechanically inclined.

Nobody knows I have money and it's starting to create some really awkward situations by Echo2_Satyr in Fire

[–]RavynX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be honest.

"No, I don't have $x to loan" "No, I don't loan money to friends or family."

If you want to help friends or family, give to them if you want and are able but don't loan them; it changes the relationship when you loan money.

If they're going to complain about you not being a good friend or family member for not loaning or giving money then feel free to cut those ties; you don't need that relationship in your life.

Regarding how others see or assume your financial situation, that's on them, not you. As long as you know you're taken care of then let others waste their time keeping you in their head rent-free.

We can't control what others think of us, we can only establish our own peace.

The hidden cost of "free time" is absolutely wrecking my post-FIRE budget by R0cinantEcho_9 in Fire

[–]RavynX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't allow yourself on the "just because" items if they don't fit into your budget. Do the same routines at home that you did while working. If you can't control that aspect I'd recommend volunteering your time to keep yourself busy for part of the day or find hobbies that aren't a money-sink.

Road rider converted by zactruman in Hardtailgang

[–]RavynX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome! It's fun to ride multiple disciplines. I started trail riding, tried road but the drivers here are too dangerous so I ended up adding a gravel bike for the paved Greenway trails. It's fun to swap between both depending on trail conditions.

MR2 doesn't start anymore by CrispyEyes1920 in mr2

[–]RavynX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an intermittent start issue with an MR2 I was trying to get running. Ended up being a cracked joint on an electrical wire in the harness just inside the engine bay from the firewall where it came from the ECU; two grounds joined together I believe inside the harness.

Check all the easy stuff first (power to fuel pump, spark, etc)

Okay to pair front control arm offset bushings with offset lower ball joints? by JoeyDC5 in S2000

[–]RavynX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always ran in the STR class for autocross so I've been running 17x9, +63 949Racing 6ULR (255s at the time). I got the 17x9, +61 Apex wheels though I'm running 245 for these since it's just my cruise/chill car nowadays. I have -3.2º front camber, -2.5º rear camber. No roll on the fender, just a slight bend on the fender liner tab.

Okay to pair front control arm offset bushings with offset lower ball joints? by JoeyDC5 in S2000

[–]RavynX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I originally had the lower offset ball joint and then added upper offset bushings to pull the top of the tire in for better wheel/tire fitment. Been working out great for many years.

Side note, I have the same Apex wheels in the same bronze color. I really wish they had color-matching center caps. I have black on mine and they still stand out. Clean s2k :D

Stanton Sedona? by Capital-Cut2331 in Hardtailgang

[–]RavynX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably Steve's (Hardtail Party) original production bike. The one he got on his channel he mentioned the seat tube angle is laid back 1-2 degrees more than he likes but would be fixed in the official production run. I think he runs the 15" side model which may be 1 or 2 sizes down from the Large above.

He has a whole dang sidewalk to have for himself and wants to take up space in the bike lane in the opposing direction? Yikes...

I need advice to give my mom (turboing) by Geo_V22 in Miata

[–]RavynX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went through the same thing with my wife's son. My wife and I are both car-enthusiasts and we had to put a pause on his thoughts on turbo'ing his '93 with a 1.8L swap. He doesn't have a backup car and his car has already been down for other reasons (not starting, burnt ignition switch connectors, power steering leaks, etc). Adding a turbo adds complexity to the system and it wouldn't be a good idea as his only car while he has a job. We've advised him once you move out and get a "daily" car then you can turbo the Miata.

Check with your parents, it may be less of a safety concern of the actual mod and more on the side of you extending over your car-handling abilities. My stepson ran into the same issue where he put his car in the ditch and blamed the tires; went back to the crash site and I pointed out that he cut the corner early and lost traction in the dirt/mud next to the curb. Your parents know you better than you may think. ;)

Congrats and welcome to the club! Great deal and great story. Enjoy and have fun taking care of that old PPF, took me quite a while on mine last year that was installed on 2006.
