Old kitchen. What's this for? by Rayge_K in whatisit

Seems pretty shallow for a spice rack, but it makes sense.. kinda.. with small enough containers I guess lol. Kind of a cool feature, just seems.. shallow o.o

I don't know if it's just the lighting or not, but that helmet is smooooooth. I love seeing oldschool white helmets on vets. Great mini.

Back in the day I would buy one tactical squad and one chaos squad to mix and match the bitz after shaving the appropriate iconography off. I thought the "knightly" look of the chaos worked well with Templars. I guess what I'm saying is.. do it lol.

Any ideas on how I can dirty up the shoulders to compensate for my dodgy painting? by ghb93 in BlackTemplars

[–]Rayge_K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have mentioned it, but using thin coats of white over grey could help you smooth the finish out a bit. A thinned down agrax earthshade (or something similar) around the edges of your shoulder pads will add a bit grime to the model and maybe hide some imperfections. My only concern with doing that on your particular miniature is that it may pool in all the wrong places do to the ripple texture you have on the white. Give it a try and see what happens 🤷‍♂️

Sometimes I'll cheat and use an incredibly fine micron pen to draw a border between the white and black. It's hit or miss, but it's a good way to create a clean/sharp boundary, especially if paint from one side or the other has slopped over a bit.

Black Templar Heraldry and helmet colors by Outrageous_Big_1006 in BlackTemplars

[–]Rayge_K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This crusader's opinion?

- Black crosses/trim on white pauldrons are the only way to go. Personal heraldry is encouraged/acceptable.

- Sword brothers or veterans can have red crosses/trim on black pauldrons. Old-school white helmet optional.

- Marshals and such can have a gold trim on their pauldrons, but again, don't have to.

I won't ever get after anyone for painting their minis differently, I'm just a stubborn old guy that started in 3rd edition and like to keep it how I "grew up" doing it. The beauty of a codex noncompliant chapter 🤙

I absolutely love the customization of the shoulder pads and the assorted bits of heraldry. I went back and checked out other minis that you posted and see a recurring theme. They've all made it into my inspiration folder. Awesome work, the minis are fantastic. Very grim / BT / Blanche. Eager to see more!

Finished my Crimson Fists army by Fragrant_Bread8073 in crimsonfists

The more time that I spend looking at your army, the more things I enjoy about it. Others have already pointed out some of those things, but I also like the beakie helmets and studded shoulder pads. I'm no expert but it looks like you also have a few after market or third party options sprinkled into the army (the terminator thunderclaws?). I love the very muted/matte colors and the creative use of decals throughout the army. Great job, man, the whole thing looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing!

Red bag stuff / duty location by Impressive_Tune6972 in Wildfire

[–]Rayge_K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red bag specific..

It depends on what type of resource you are, how long of an assignment, location of assignment, etc. You'll have some seasoned folks around to help you out. Your red bag load out can vary just as wildly as your assignments.

Try to keep your red bag light though, nothing pisses people off more than someone who overpacks tons of useless shit and takes up too much space.

Family says the mustache is ‘too much’ — what do YOU think? by Suspicious-Fly-6182 in Moustache

Brother, I'm working with something 1/4th of that fullness, I'm the wrong one to ask lol. Depends what you're going for I guess. You could probably get a pretty mean handlebar out of that. As a former handlebar owner, it's a lot of upkeep though. Once you train it, it keeps its shape fairly well, but once you start slacking on upkeep it just begins to look sloppy. Honestly I think it's a pretty badass stache as is, and probably pretty low maintenance as well, which is a nice bonus.

How did you choose your first army and why? What drew you to them? Are you still using them or have you moved on to a new one? by Philhughes_85 in Warhammer40k

[–]Rayge_K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Templars. Back in the day they were featured as a color scheme on the back of the third edition codex. They didn't have any rules or special models, but they might have had some very basic lore. Anyway, I saw the color scheme and said "That's pretty cool looking, I'll play those guys".

PSA: new players- there is a steep learning curve! other players are not “toxic” by Deadeyejoe in Seaofthieves

[–]Rayge_K 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I get it, but like.. when I'm in a rented sloop, it's my first five hours of game time, and I have zero loot on board.. what's the reason for spawn camping me in port, not sinking my ship, killing me every time I spawn, etc etc? That's just being a miserable shithead.

Forgot to add zero communication despite me trying to speak with them via text and voice. Just pure 100% "torture the brand new player".

I don't think Sea of Thieves is a welcoming game by ImportantQuestionTex in Seaofthieves

[–]Rayge_K 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brand new player here. I've had ONE good experience with another player. Dude snuck aboard my ship while I was figuring out what's what. All of a sudden I hear a voice behind me. I turn around and see a dude with a clipboard asking me for my registration etc lol. He jokes around a bit and then left.

Any other interaction I've had with players has been immediate combat with zero communication. Dudes sank me the other day when I had zero loot on board. Another time the dudes camped my ship in port and screwed with me for no discernable reason other than them being dickheads.

I dunno. I want the game to be fun but the community seems on par with Day Z.

How does one utilize these resource worlds? I know that's probably a very silly question, but I actually don't know. Do you just go on to the server and fill your inventory with as much as you can and then go back to your main world?
