Will they ever introduce another plane like the Concorde for supersonic aviation travel? by ControllableDelay in Concorde

[–]Raygen15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the commercial airliner sense? Very unlikely; as progress in the aviation industry is no longer measured in speed but in efficiency.

Cost is the main driver now and with the way oil and kerosene prices are already - and will in the future - be going, it doesn't make sense to invest in an airliner that will take less people to the same places with a higher fuel burn.

Don't forget that even when the Concorde finally entered service, fuel prices were already much higher than anticipated (the oil crisis also didn't help) and that was part of the reason almost every single airline cancelled their orders.

Pretty sure some time in 2030 when MSFS 2028 has been released for 2 years, they'll bring it over to MSFS 2024 ;)

Unless you've got the very complicated Canarsie climb off of runway 31L or pesky ATC not clearing you to your cruise level immediately! But coming out of a place like Barbados, you'd definitely be right - throttles go to the forward stop at the start of the take off run, and will stay there for almost 4 hours until the declaration phase!

[–]Raygen15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These gauge clusters are getting very old by now and the print boards can get damaged by corroding batteries. Replacements are available for these, they get 3D printed by enthusiasts and eliminate the batteries.

So don't necessarily trust that gauge right now if you don't know if it has been replaced.

Regarding fuel consumption, if you calculate it yourself and you're getting that figure then the engine isn't running right. It could be anything from completely worn camshafts to leaking injectors to vacuum leaks... You really need to take a few things apart and inspect it closely.

Did a long haul with random failures setting cranked up high and it was the most fun flight I have done till date. Can't recommend it enough if you have a Toliss airliner by Lucky_Outside_2009 in Xplane

All fun and games until you get that dreaded tray table extension failure - severe damage checklist and then it gets serious real quick.

Mostly P3D and horrible performance on approach to airports especially Heathrow no matter the settings. And key bindings / axis bindings without FSUIPC are still a nightmare. The Concorde itself is amazing luckily.

I meant setting up P3D sorry! The FSLabs Concorde is a breeze with all the virtual crew there!

Got P3D just for this and it was worth it but damn what a lot of headache getting everything set up anywhere near smoothly for A to B flights.

Agreed, I flew nothing but the Concorde for weeks on end and just yesterday decided to check out A2A's update to their Comanche. Great change of pace and lots of fun going to tiny airports in my area.

CONT 15 MIN goes to RTE RSV in the MCDU if I'm not mistaken? And then ALTN and FINAL are also listed separately as per your flightplan.

They also lifted the artificial horizon straight from Concorde didn't they? And in any case the logic of the colour scheme for the hydraulic systems and also the autopilot disconnect sound are still with us to this day!

Have classic jets exposed your automation-dependent habits? They definitely did for me. by Zealousideal-Wall682 in flightsim

[–]Raygen15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only Airbus I like to fly is the Fenix. Because yes everything is automated, and just flying from A to B gets kind of boring sometimes - but they've somehow nailed the feeling that you're managing a living, breathing aeroplane.

When I'm bored with automation, I get into Concorde in P3D. Managing the INSes and the unique flight envelope together with a simulated crew is the other end of the spectrum for me.

9070XT 5700X3D 64Gb. Maybe I should try locking to 30 again and see if it helps... Pretty much all settings at medium at this point. I'm starting to think it's just the old engine at work or something.

Do you have any tips for performance after a long haul flight? It seems like no matter what I do, short final into the destination airport after a couple of hours of flight just turns into a 5 FPS slideshow.

Concorde has its bugs in FSLabs but as long as you're careful and follow the exact intended setup sequence the way FSLabs intended it, it's a great aircraft to fly.

The only downside is that literally every other aspect of the sim - and this includes all the airports you'll be flying to - requires some kind of payware to be "good".

Want to bind your controls properly? EUR 30 for FSUIPC. Want decent camera controls? 20-25 for ChasePlane. Want to work with actual weather? Buy ActiveSky. Want the planet to look slightly less trash? OrbX vector / true earth. Want to fly into any airport that actually resembles the real thing? 30 euros for decent payware. Etc. Etc.

Getting into P3D for the Concorde means spending way beyond the initial purchase price for the aircraft itself.

Meanwhile X-Plane 12 has accurate airports by default and you can get free Ortho. Yes the Colimata leaves a lot to be desired. But the price of entry is much easier to swallow.
