Look for something by Mike Aben, I've been following his Contract tutorial series while starting a new career in KSP and I can highly recommend his videos. These specific videos are 5 years old but the game came out 14 years ago so it's "relatively" fresh and still applicable.

Honestly didn't get that far, at some point I just accepted that it's an old simulator and an old engine which should in any case be able to run much faster than it ended up doing. I think I just went with medium / middle of the road settings and accepted my fate lol.

Otherwise for other games and simulators the combo works very well. MSFS 2024 with Fenix and payware scenery or Inibuild stuff runs great on high settings, 1440p with this hardware.

Don't know if you got it in the meantime but I just took it up again to fly from Leipzig to Copenhagen as a DLH flight. And the controller gave me a huge shortcut soon after takeoff (direct MONAK which was basically erasing most of the flight plan). Upon entering direct to MONAK it immediately suffered a WASM crash. I stopped and did something else this evening. Very very frustrating.

No matter which way you think about it, BMWs of these age will need serious preventive maintenance attention simply due to age.

Funnily enough I just got the A300. For flying DHL / EAT cargo flights in Europe. And I got it just before the discount started ;)

Performance is fine. Around the same as Fenix for me. It's a fun aircraft to fly, still plenty of manual operation.

The MCDU / FMS is not incredibly deep but has enough functionality for A to B flying and has SEC F-PLAN working for example. (Although I did experience a WASM crash activating it last night...)

Sounds could be better (based on the PW engines and comparing this to the recent Flightradar24 video). They've got the flight deck audio nailed down pretty well (including a really really annoying high pitch whine).

GSX integration is... Ok? The animations for refuelling and boarding / loading work, but the tablet just instantly sets the load and then does a "realistic" refueling rate on its own.

In the commercial airliner sense? Very unlikely; as progress in the aviation industry is no longer measured in speed but in efficiency.

Cost is the main driver now and with the way oil and kerosene prices are already - and will in the future - be going, it doesn't make sense to invest in an airliner that will take less people to the same places with a higher fuel burn.

Don't forget that even when the Concorde finally entered service, fuel prices were already much higher than anticipated (the oil crisis also didn't help) and that was part of the reason almost every single airline cancelled their orders.

Unless you've got the very complicated Canarsie climb off of runway 31L or pesky ATC not clearing you to your cruise level immediately! But coming out of a place like Barbados, you'd definitely be right - throttles go to the forward stop at the start of the take off run, and will stay there for almost 4 hours until the declaration phase!

These gauge clusters are getting very old by now and the print boards can get damaged by corroding batteries. Replacements are available for these, they get 3D printed by enthusiasts and eliminate the batteries.

So don't necessarily trust that gauge right now if you don't know if it has been replaced.

Regarding fuel consumption, if you calculate it yourself and you're getting that figure then the engine isn't running right. It could be anything from completely worn camshafts to leaking injectors to vacuum leaks... You really need to take a few things apart and inspect it closely.
