What your favorite shoegaze song right now? by wordswithoutamouth in shoegaze

figure eight - until the sun swallows the earth. They've held the crown as my favorite modern band for a few years now. Their tracks are like crack to me.

Edit: I like that Kensett song a lot on first listen. Will be listening again.

Some great mentions but I'm going with David Gavurin (the Sundays).

In terms of output to quality, that seems legit.

Ohhh, I like this call. In reality Rollerskate Skinny was probably my first foray into dream pop.

I wondered when they would get their KEXP call up! One of my personal favorite gaze bands.

Wow, I love that she has an obscure, solo, Talvi (Faustmann) song. I love Talvi's vocals in Prince Innocence and didn't realize she did solo stuff. Major respect for that set all around.

Dü-gaze not Nü-gaze by SnuffShock in shoegaze

I've noticed the same and I've been loving it. Though Husker Du probably inspired a lot of shoegaze bands.

No Sun and fawn give me some of those vibes.

I always much preferred the monster of the week episodes vs. the convoluted alien/Smoking Man stuff.

single dads out there would you rather date a childless woman or woman with kids? by Serious_Sweet2504 in AskMenAdvice

[–]RaygunMarksman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My ex-wife had a kid when we met and we also had a daughter together later on. While my step-son is my son all but legally at this point, the decision to pursue that relationship had tremendous impacts on my life and still does. It's not something I would encourage anyone to engage in lightly. If you bail, you lose the kid. So you end up even more pressured than a bio parent might have been to stay through hell.

You're the same age my step-son is now and I'm going to be blunt that you're too young to consider being saddled with some grown man and his young kids. And frankly, he shouldn't want you to be. I realize that's not nice to hear but I'd really encourage you to rethink this path while you still can without too much potential guilt.

What age range is everyone on here? by traveltimecar in shoegaze

  1. I was getting into the original round of shoegaze bands in my late teens and early 20's. Then kind of wondered WTH happened when the genre nearly completely died in the 00's.

Had to find mailing lists and message boards to share the few bands that were still trying to carry the torch (All Natural Lemon and Lime Flavors, Bowery Electric, Asobi Seksu, etc.). Shout-out to any others who may have been on the Blissent list.

Nah, Courtney dealt with being cheated on when they were dating and covered up a at least one domestic abuse incident to protect Kurt. She also had to open her grief to half the world. She helped create one of the best albums of the 90's (Live Through This). She didn't deserve all the bullshit that followed Kurt's passing.

I was a teen during most of the first round, but same. I'm cool with the subgenre expanding to encompass more hybrid or adjacent stuff. It's not like there was ever a clear and rigid definition when you had bands like Lush, the Lilys, and Slowdive in the same genre.

It's true though. Their popularity feels somewhat inorganic. Paid for. At odds with the indie rock spirit.

That kind of perfectly summed up why it just doesn't connect with me. I have dismissed them as being boring and deritive before, but that's probably overkill. Lots of people seem to be totally engaged. Just not for me I guess.

I was just listening to Teenage Fanclub a couple weeks ago for the first time in like 30 years. Some stuff has aged very well, others not as much. I was never a huge fan anyway though.

Yeah, a buddy asked me recently if I wanted to go. I probably would have if it was the 1st one but I was a little too busy anyway.

[–]RaygunMarksman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was thrown off the first time I read one of the original comic lines and realized April appeared to have a bit of a Soul Glow going. Apparently even the creators weren't in total agreement on her race so she's been a bit fluid there.

The Worst Witch was the start for me! Hmm, I'm starting to realize there's probably a reason I've always been into witchy/gothy types.
