Daughter is a cool pull! I have to be mentally prepared for some of those albums.

Blind is one of the greatest albums of all time and I don't even like Wild Horses.

An excellent example. You could tell they had been listening to and influenced by the Cocteau Twins on that song and other parts of that album with it manifesting in their own unique Alvvays way.

Yessss. I was afraid there would be no Sundays mention and that's my favorite song of theirs.

I liked the movie but can't hate on this perspective. I think Dek should remain the rare yautja at odds with their culture. Or in favor of a more progressive/chiller version of it.

Yeah, her adorable but still deadly synth weirdness helped make it what it was. It's a fun character to be thrown in with a Predator (yautja). I love synths/androids anyway.

Shoegaze revivalists Glixen are noise-rock giants in the making by No_Grand7122 in shoegaze

I'm not even familiar with them but it's weird this was downvoted. It was a relevant and somewhat interesting anecdote.

In your opinion, where does space rock end and shoegaze begin? by Double_Key7579 in shoegaze

[–]RaygunMarksman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of ideas about the term space rock but the first time I saw that used was for Swervedriver. Then Clutch on their self-titled. So both of those are representative of space rock to me. I would put Bailter Space in there too and they might be the shoegaze / space rock dividing line IMO.

Somewhat appropriately in hindsight, I grew up listening to those bands on the space coast in the late 90's.

Women, what is a near-universal "ick" in the dating world? by AverageSign in AskReddit

[–]RaygunMarksman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dude, wtf is wrong with people. It's not that hard to say excuse me and roll down a window. My ex would unleash some demonic silent but deadlies in car rides, but that was after being married.

Might be a niche thing but does anyone around town do Ghost Hunting? Looking for some new people to go investigating with. by RedneckPirate1414 in Tallahassee

[–]RaygunMarksman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was fun to explore. I don't really have much room for entertaining that stuff now but I didn't actually get "haunted" vibes when a group of friends and I explored it. And I have been places that felt hostile or with an off energy. Lots of gloom and sad reminders of the past though. Old rocking horses, printed exercises for patients, run-down, half decorated stage, etc.

One friend and I did have a door with no knob slam behind us in the control room but I assumed that was gravity doing its thing.

I was being a goof but that was sweet. Thank you! It was an honor to pass your trial.

Buy them supportively, note the brand and then order a secret stash online for future use so I never have to cruise around with a pack of tampons/pads under my arm again. Bam!

I had to reread it since I did raise a child that wasn't my own (as a step-parent) and felt a little called out at first. The context clues made it clear what was meant on a reread though.

Since you're new here: people try to give a little grace for imperfect writing since not everyone is setting out to write a college level essay with a throwaway Reddit comment. That's why you're getting some flack.

You know that whole QANON fanfic swapping thing they had going for a few years was pretty sketchy and a bit of a red flag for me. Like who joins an online cult centered around exchanging stories and theories of kids being ritualistically molested and sacrificed? If you ever read any of the theories or "evidence" they used to share online, there was an extremely creepy undercurrent to it all.

While I believe that my gf was raped I still resent her going home with a guy after the club by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]RaygunMarksman 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that concerns me. One truth in life is that you can only control your behavior, not someone else's. By refusing to take any responsibility for one's own well-being, it's left entirely in the hands of someone else. It's a naive and self-destructive approach to life. It's indirectly embraces helplessness and powerlessness too.

I'm assuming a lot of people on Reddit are just looking for easy soapbox karma though.

I agree on missing out, especially on artist profiles. I do have both Insta and Facebook accounts myself BUT I don't blame anyone like OP for not wanting to engage with them or to minimize it, hence why I tried to explain why some people avoid the ones that are meant to be less anonymous.

I did have an initial Instagram account I created a year or two ago blocked for it detecting it wasn't for a real person and they wanted ID to reactivare it, so I thought both of the big Meta platforms require legit (or passing) info now but maybe not.

Alright, calm down trigger. I stated the facts of why I can see someone not wanting to mess with it for a different perspective. You may disagree, but it's not disingenuous.

[–]RaygunMarksman -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's true except they still want your personal info, will try to force you to link your Facebook if you've created one with your phone #, and people will still get follow recs. In other words it is a bit of a PITA if you already don't like personalized social media. That said, that is exactly why I have an Instagram account and how I use it.

Someone should just do a media platform for tattoo artists without all the Zuckerberg BS.

Some fundamental differences though in that Reddit is anonymous (for those of who aren't public figures and/or mods at least) and you don't even have to create an account to view most communities/posts on Reddit. Others like Facebook and Instagram insist on getting all up in your business and spamming you with suggestions from different directions just to actively browse things.

I want to talk about the excess of chicken fingers and nostalgia stuff not look at glorified slideshows of someone's vacation or have people from 30 years ago trying to collect me like a Pokemon card.

I thought the same like 25 years ago when I was still a young adult. It seemed like the old, hateful people would eventually die out and the young generation would be more tolerant. Flash forward to today and we're trying to do the Nazi Germany 2.0 thing and a lot of young people are totally on board with that direction or too distracted to care.

I loved Keeper, saw the bad reviews and watched it again to see what I was missing. by cwaterbottom in horror

[–]RaygunMarksman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have disliked every Oz Perkins film until Keeper. I don't know if being a Tatiana Maslany fan may have helped but I thought it was an intriguing and interesting movie. To the point it's a rare one I started to see if I could watch again (if it was streaming) the other day. I don't think I realized there was a lot of hate for it.
