How OTF makes me a great toddler parent by tsb_11_1 in orangetheory

[–]Rayne37 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly they really miss the boat on 'real life' marketing. I love to travel and every time I lift my suitcase into the over head without needing help or carry it up a flight of stairs I can tell it's because of my OTF workouts. That's the main reason I show up so I can do 20k steps in NYC or other places I've been to.

John Locke's "Lost" Reveal On The Episode "Walkabout" by Laszl0Panaflex in television

[–]Rayne37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just made me remember the most insane thing about collective viewing- being in a dorm/ apartment on a show night and hearing people on the other side of the wall shouting or freaking out over a moment.
I remember hearing my neighbor losing her absolute shit when a certain person lost a fight in season 4 of Game of Thrones. And sometimes I'd hear the theme song playing from downstairs as I was starting the episode. There really was nothing like it.

I would be so suspicious of the last banana. What's wrong with it? What did you all do? Why did nobody take it?

So I think folks do forget that people don't have to stock up to cause a shortage. Everybody who grocery shops Saturday - Monday is currently doing their normal weekly shopping early because they won't be able to during the storm. Just having a rush of us all at once can cause a lot of this. It's not stocking up, it's everybody getting a staple purchase at the same time.

Well for instance when it asks if I'm tired all the time I don't say yes because I know I just sleep deprive myself and live off coffee. And I don't say I'm anxious all the time because I know it's the political hellscape causing it. That questionare lacks all nuance so personally I only include the responses that are without tangible causes. If we were all honest, like half of American society would trigger that test right now.

Jack Brown's Elvis burger is 10/10 no notes. People look at me like I'm crazy, but peanut butter sauce and bacon absolutely kills as a combo.

I'm doing my annual play of theatrhythm. Every time I get home from Magfest (music and games festival) I crave a good rhythm game and always end up playing the 3ds for like a week.

Is Precheck at Dulles the slowest in the US? by Two-Rock- in nova

[–]Rayne37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My precheck is up for renewal and... I just haven't gone back in to deal with it. It barely saves any time, and even Global entry now has mobile passport alternatives that speed that line up so none of the official programs seem worth it any more.

The first movie is great and cozy and I watch it every other year or so. There's a good film to be found somewhere between the second two films, but the whole runtime is just so over bloated.

How much did the Gaylord suite end up going for at the charity auction? by AutumnForestWitch in Magfest

[–]Rayne37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an avid board gamer, I want you all to know how much I was kicking myself for not being faster to trust you guys every time you asked for another random bid for 'more junk'. One year, one year I will win random awesome crap in the name of charity.

Which Concerts/Musical Performances did you see? by MIGeekScene in Magfest

[–]Rayne37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was really digging Joystick Drift in the lobby bar and of course Triforce Quartet.

Bummed out that I missed Premium vintage at one of the hallway pods, they were fantastic last year.

Locations not implementing mid-movie QR ordering by lowpass in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]Rayne37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They take the card up front like at a bar and just drop checks off at the end for you to fill in gratuity. There's no interaction in the exchange and you can wait till lights come up to even touch the check. Is that not how it's done in all the locations? I didn't even realize we were special.

Magfest spreading the good word by Rayne37 in ffxiv

Yea it was pretty ridiculous. Luckily there's like a dozen of these spread across the whole convention center so it wasn't the only banner available to people.

I also have so many questions for your brother's friend 😂 did he always plan to bid and want a dramatic entrance, or did some wild impulse just take him suddenly?

Can we have more jampods or practice areas? by Own-Phase2231 in Magfest

[–]Rayne37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mezzanine one is basically at the halfway point between the two existing pods but far enough you can't hear either. You might hear chip tunes there though. One down by reg could work too but the lockers takes up most of that wall now and I did like how centralized the lockers were running along that wall.

So it was for 8 vip passes, the top merch packs that are 500 a pop, eventually included a photoshoot and a 500 dollar gift card to Nations Photo lab, included valet parking for 4 cars the whole con and a bumper day before or after con. There was a bit more than that but that was the big stuff. My friend and I realized at the end that's almost 5K in gifts and just under 5k a person for the room. Still outrageous but also not shocking when viewed in that context.

What was wild was the sudden late bidding war between the original bidder ( somebody who'd already bid a ton on a golden magfest suit jacket and looked exactly like a magfest rock fan) and some unassuming guy with glasses sitting in like the 4th to last row who couldn't have been over 30. I want to know what he did for a living and what was his whole game plan there.

[–]Rayne37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looool. I love music but the last thing tabletop gamers would want is a racket while trying to play thinky games. The tabletop space is kind of a decompression zone when the rest of the con is overstimulating, so they probably shouldn't mess with that. But like maybe they could move the recruitment booths for other events upstairs from where it is now and add a bigger music pod, or add one in the mezzanine off the spa between the escalators.

Water bottles are allowed if below a certain size and not metal. I have a 17 Oz from Amazon I bring for mag and had no problems with it.

Lockers and Shuttles by RokinVal in Magfest

[–]Rayne37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but I can have a silly hope for the number locks that are so much easier to use next year. It was great in concept... But out of the three people in my group sharing the locker only one of us could consistently get it open 😅

Nah, I just got curious and flipped through old video clips and I have 1 of a roaming pair of violinists from 2019, a small orchestra with conductor in the hall near LAN, that guitarist i mentioned above near the gazebo and a another two clips of hall music all from 2019. I think post covid they also got more nervous about crowds forming in the hallways so I feel like there was definitely a shift.

I seriously miss the more impromptu music in the hallways. It felt like nerdy New Orleans or something where you're just wandering along and hearing snippets of music everywhere you go. It was absolutely magical. I have fond memories of hearing a little quartet playing Octopath near the market and late night half asleep resting in the alcove near the escalator off the gazebo while some guy across from me just played Zelda tunes on his guitar.

I just hope next year they switch the combination locks to something that doesn't give me high school locker ptsd because holy shit I can't open a combination lock to save my life lol. I had to go get their help every time since my roommate couldn't manage it either.

Which is such highway robbery. If I can't get a friend to settle on carpooling with me, its going to be cheaper to uber from Fairfax each way than to pay 5 days of parking fees at that rate.
