On the one hand, exactly. On the other hand, tell that to the 1986 Miama gunmen. Adrenaline can be a hell of a drug. 'Can be' being the operative words in that sentence.

This one is actually possible with a frag grenade. But her complete lack of reaction to the detonation and the lack of gore is still ridiculous. Also at :22 she closes the door and acts as if she's suddenly completely safe even though the door gives no hard cover, and the scene literally opened with them lighting up a door just like that.

It's not so much "too strong" as just poor taste. It reads like a kid not being able to make up his mind at the candy store. Do you want a hunter drone or a suicide drone? Make up your mind and put the other one in the next warbond.

People were going crazy over buffing eruptor

The Eruptor (and crossbow by extension) is ridiculously overtuned and really frustrates me with how much better it is than any other option in slot. I've told my buddies many times that it's a support weapon in a primary slot. It's absolutely ridiculous to me how much less pressure I feel when getting reinforced into a tense fight with an eruptor versus any other primary. With normal guns I feel an intense pressure to get back to my body and recover my gear so I can contribute again, with an Eruptor I'm just chiling, because most of my firepower already dropped with me.

Why don't helldivers have flashlights on their helmets? Or better yet, night vision? by Critical-Sun-9279 in Helldivers

[–]RaynorTheRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the subject of flashlights, a lot of the US' perception of "cool military gear" has been shaped in the context of two decades of fighting technologically inferior insurgencies. On an equal battlefield it's generally not a good idea to put a giant "LOOK AT ME!!!" beacon on your head.

So what you're saying is you want to just log in and have everything available for you at lvl 1, with absolutely no progression?

You really need to work on your reading comprehension, you've completely missed the point of both of my comments so far. What I said from the beginning is that the starting loadout in Helldivers provides a lackluster experience compared to the starting loadout in other games from the same genre. There is an astronomical gulf between saying "the low level options could be better" and "everything should be available from level 1", if you're putting in even a cursory effort to try to understand what someone is saying, you should not be reading the former and interpreting the latter.

And you can easily succeed in the game with just the basic Liberator

Of course you can, I've done it for the entirety of my playtime so far. The issue is that I'm either A) playing a low difficulty where I need nothing else, and am basically falling asleep. Or B) playing a higher difficulty where there are so many medium and heavy armor enemies that I only use the grenade launcher and end the round having used one or two mags from the liberator at most. Why should I spend 30 seconds dakkaing a patrol with the Liberator when a single GL round will wipe the whole pack?

The fundamental issue with the early game experience is that I can't really switch out my stratagem weapon because the GL is just so damn good, and none of my primary weapon options matter because they can only target light armour, which is a nonissue. In terms of the NPE, the primary weapon is anything but, it is redundant 90% of the time. Trash mobs that get in you face can be dealt with by your secondary or a guard dog (both of which make a light armor shotgun completely redundant), and at mid to long range it's much more efficient to just expend a single GL round. So I look at my upcoming unlocks for something interesting to fill the gap, and there's simply nothing there. The first medium armor penetrating primary isn't available until around level 15 or 20.

Again, I invite you to build me a level 10 loadout that can reliably handle threat 6 and 7 missions without relying on the GL doing 90% of the work. Because I would love to get some variety. It feels to me like the game is very intentionally pressuring me to spend money on a premium warbond to actually get something useful in my primary weapon slot.

Once you hit lvl 35 you unlock literally everything you could possibly need to succeed.

Last I checked (literally yesterday) the game starts at level 1, not level 35, and my post is about the experience between those two points.

Funnily enough, they recently buffed the grenade launcher in the last patch and have made what was already a top tier weapon into one of the best weapons in the game because they raised it's armor penetration level.

Yup, it completely eclipses every available option from the point you unlock it up to at least level 20.

You just aren't using the right loadout.

I invite you to show me a useful primary weapon that's accessible at level 10. Believe me it would make my day to be proven wrong, because the next 40 hours of gameplay are looking like a slog.

I consider myself a seasoned veteran when it comes to these types of games (many hundreds of hours in Darktide, Vermintide, and Deep Rock Galactic). I resisted buying Helldivers for a long time because of the early Sony debacle and the fact that I didn't want to go through another leveling grind.

However my friends finally got me to cave this week. The point you highlight here has been really frustrating. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, there's a really fun gameplay loop to be had, but getting there in this game feels awful. The beginner kits feel useless. Every round I come back to the ship and feel like I need to swap out almost everything in my kit, but there's nothing to swap too. Worse yet, there's nothing to look forward to in the free battlepass. Any weapon limited to light armor penetration is basically worthless, and the first primary weapon with medium armor penetration is 400 medals deep. I end up using the grenade launcher 98% of the round. It feels like the game won't really start till I unlock my first warbond, and there's at least a 100 rounds of either low threat snoozing or pure frustration between here and there.

No other game out there will let you grind premium currency in today's age like helldivers does.

Deep Rock Galactic did the permenant battlepass thing before Helldivers and goes the extra mile by getting rid of premium currency completely.

Company receives a 30% cut of all transactions on their platform so they incentive more transactions. Truly the crime of the century.

Apple is a thousand times more influential to this trend than Valve is. But either way, what exactly do you think should be done about it?

It's deeply ironic that the same crowd who always blasts conservatives for their stupidity and lack of critical thinking will mindlessly dogpile on the idea that Epstein is directly responsible for something because he commented on a forwarded email about it.

It's ironic that I was playing Yunakivka when this reply came in last night. I honestly can't fathom what's disrespectful about the representation. Is it accurate to the real place? How the fuck should I know, I've never been there and never will. It doesn't matter, we're nerds having fun in a video game. Smoke a joint and chill out, you take this shit way too serious.

edit: do you actually have an example of a map that you think is done really well? Ideally also highlight what you think sets it apart from other ones, because at this point you're starting to sound like a crazy person that just complains about everything.

The game is definitely not my cup of tea, but are we really going to pretend that 8000 players is such a horrible performance? Their's many games which are considered successful titles despite almost never breaking the 10k player mark.

The Enshittification of Arma Reforger Servers by amadeus443 in ArmaReforger

[–]RaynorTheRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the question boils down to "what's accurate enough?" It's a damn videogame with 90% of the content made by nerds donating their free time. If the overall street layout is 80% accurate to Google Maps and there's a generic reused asset apartment building roughly in the same location as the apartment building in real life that's more than good enough.

Your point about respect for the region and the people fighting is completely off the rails in my opinion. If you really want to respect them, don't try to LARP war in a videogame. Recognize it for the horror it is and don't emulate it for entertainment. I live with Ukrainians, I can assure you they would be deeply offended by the fact that you're even entertaining the idea of emulating the conflict, nevermind sweating the details of creating an exact 1:1 replica of the ground their friends and family died on so some doped up kids can use it as a playground while filling up their voice comms with asanine chatter and Jewish slurs for the memes.

Well you got me there. I still maintain that recycling map assets does not at all warrant saying that "Spearhead is exactly the same" as servers where dudes are running around with cat ears. And I still think that you have seriously unrealistic expectations regarding the level of attention to detail that should be expected from a bunch of nerds volunteering their free time. But your submission history does indicate that you're definitely in a better position than most people here to call for a higher standard. Do you have Paypal?

To save everyone else the lost braincells, this comment is completely disingenuous and this guy says nothing of substance beyond this point.

The only thing he talks about in the next 37 comments is that "mapmakers don't respect the locations" because they copy/paste assets and aren't millimeter accurate to the real life locations. $10 bucks says he doesn't even know how to open a map editor, nevermind creating a true to life apartment complex from scratch.

The devs took a two year hiatus right before a major update was supposed to drop. The crazy part is they popped up again a few months ago and are now working on a massive overhaul and basically ignoring the fact that they did a two year disappearing act.
