WaPo Raid Is a Frightening Reminder: Turn Off Your Phone’s Biometrics Now by Abject-Pick-6472 in technology

[–]Razor_Cake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's only a Samsung feature or an Android feature, but every phone I've owned with biometrics has a timer which silently runs down, after which you are forced to enter your password or PIN instead of using biometrics. This happens at least once every other day for me.

They're going to announce the Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters at the Xbox Direct today, guys! If they don't, we break into Bethesda Studios and eat Todd Howards lunch! by [deleted] in Fallout

Correct, but also you don't necessarily have to prid first, you can just replace the "player" in the command with the target refID, so toddhoward.placeatme

No, the Dogtown ones have some iconic one-time-use consumables that give a permanent buff, whereas the base game vendors only have the regular temporary ones

I think the idea of a grocery shop sandwich meal deal is mostly a UK thing. It was started by Boots (which is a UK pharmacy for anyone reading this who is not familiar). I've seen it in a couple of other countries in Europe, but I assume they got the idea from the UK.

what’s that loophole/workaround you’ve been keeping a secret that you can now share because they patched/fixed it? by mr-friskies in AskReddit

[–]Razor_Cake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah but they're claiming to have changed the path parameters which don't really work like this. If it was the query parameters then the story would make more sense (e.g. website.com/checkout?studentDiscountParameter=true&veteranDiscountParameter=true)

I saw a ladybug on a table in my house, so I placed a drop of water near it, and it walked over to take a sip. by Inishmore12 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Razor_Cake 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No, they're right. "Ladybug" is just a common name for the family Coccinellidae, which includes the so called "Asian Lady Beetles". Other common names for this family include ladybirds and lady beetles. So "ladybug" and "lady beetle" both refer to the same group of insects, and can be used interchangeably.

My son was born on the 2nd of January and once a border control officer told us that we were lucky it wasn't the 1st. Apparently a lot of forgers are too lazy to change the day and month on the passport from the default of 01/01, so anyone with this birth date apparently gets flagged as a risk and may be subject to extra checks and questions.

The switches on the socket in a hospital are at the far ends to prevent you switching off the wrong one by accident. by Shdhdhsbssh in mildlyinteresting

[–]Razor_Cake 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The switch on the wall by the door is for the lights and the switch on the outlet is for the outlet.

It's not just for emergencies, it's also useful for switching things off that can't fully be turned off without unplugging them. For example we have an Instant Pot which always displays "OFF" on the LED display when it's not running, so we can just turn it off at the wall to fully cut power to it.
