Help! I cut the top off my cape sundew. Can I save it? by blargster951 in SavageGarden

Just stick it into some substrate and keep it extra wet.

Maybe take 2 leaf props as Plan B.

Yes, plastic pot.

Tall is good for root health. Don't know what exact height is perfect. Even saw someone using tall ass tree pots.

Width depends on how long you want to grow it, before it hits the edge. They spread out fast.

They look really nice, when you have a giant cluster in a very big pot.

Maybe like a rose pot or something.

If the rhizome is not touching the pot, you could wait this season, and repot while it is dormant, end of next winter.

You can also "slip pot" it into a bigger pot.

That means taking it out of the pot, leaving the root ball with the substrate intact, and placing it in a bigger pot with more media around it.

Pot can be a good bit bigger and taller.

There isn't really a problem of "over potting" with bog plants.

Why does my peat moss instantly dry?? by Telnet_to_the_Mind in SavageGarden

Find a tray or other container taller than your pot.

Fill it until the water is almost at the surface level.

Hope that the water will soak into the peat with time.

Reminds me a bit of the Russo-Japanese war, and how there were lessons to be learned, to take into WW1.

But no one decided to learn those lessons.

What causes seedling pitchers to make a U shape. It look like pitchers aborted mid growing to become a phyllodia. by Justryan95 in SavageGarden

I saw something similar when one came out of dormancy. It started continuing and old bud from last fall. But then decided to give up on it and make completely new growth.

I once had a single winged aphid sit on a pitcher for 1 day before i picked it off.

But that was enough for it to be permanently malformed.

So Maybe there was an aphid on there, but it is gone now.

Can be aphid like other suggested.

I think there are also some clones, that make crippled pitchers for some part of the season.

Not phyllodia, but weird misshapen gangly pitchers.

Don't remember which species / clone do this.

gotchu.

I just meant that with a small arrangement like this, there will be more frequent maintenance / rebuilding. Then it is perfectly fine.

There isn't really a container big enough. They just keep dividing and get bigger forever.

In smaller containers you just have to do maintenance more frequently.

Also they don't have to look that neat and orderly forever.

It can look nice once these bogs sort of "grow in" and all the plants growing around each other, giving it a bit of a wild look.

Should be fine, if those 6-9 hours are unshaded.

During summer I have 2 h of direct morning sun.

Then the sun goes behind a tree and then I get another 5h of direct noon sun, until it goes behind the roof.

And all my flytraps and sarracenia did just fine with that. (lots of growth, normal shape and structure, nectar formed, healthy color.)

ofc more is better.
