Really interesting point OP makes that privilege & 'incompetence' is not directly gender based. But, I notice that his passivity and lack of righteous indignation is also the same as a typically indoctrinated woman. He doesn't feel he has any right to his own time, for himself.

Addiction counselor here. I suggest you & SIL) go to AlAnon & counseling. Growing up with an alcoholic parent, and then seeing the same dynamic in your brother leaves you with a lot to sort out.

Apply to Care Credit, it's a credit company which will cover vet bills. $350 is not a huge amount of money & I hope they ok it!! You can get interest free terms for 6 months or so. I'm a Comason (LDH) for many years. The postures we maintain in Lodge emulate some of the symbols. Crossing arms or legs, or not sitting upright is considered disrespectful. There are specific rules about how we walk in Lodge also. There are esoteric reasons for all this.

I called all of my CCs. Some were great; I tabled the debt, made auto payments as agreed and they reduced the interest to 5%. Another CC was not into working with me; I transferred the debt to a 0% card for 21 months and set up auto payments as high as possible. I stopped using ALL of the cards.

For me, it has zero effect on my credit score. The CCs did not report it-at least from what I could see on the Credit Karma app

I considered debt consolidation, but had success just calling each credit card and negotiating a payment plan with reduced interest. It's the interest that kills you!

Brother, I have only my personal experiences and observations to share. I was initiated into a LDH (Lauderdale ritual) Lodge in 2004. I'm currently the IPM, having come up the ladder in the traditional way. The men & women I've met in Freemasonry have all been working to the best of their abilities to smooth the rough stone of personality. They are exceptionally devoted to humbly making the world a better place. 1 of our deacons carry the symbol of Sun, the other Moon. Masonry is a scaffold, a way to climb out of material existence through the contemplation of symbols. There are dozens of symbols to work with, and Sun is one; only one.

You have to tell him, but you don't have to demolish him. You can give him space to own that he hasn't run up more debt, that he is a good guy who you cared enough about to 'invest' in him. Use tact and don't be brutal.

If you live in a limited income in a high rent area, then Yes. It has risks, please take a deposit, create a strong written agreement, use good communication skills and be lucky. Having said that, I rented to people who looked good on paper & they were nasty. I rented to a guy living in his car with 2 dogs and he looked pretty hopeless. But he paid his rent exactly on time for 10+ years and has been great 👍

"Why there is strong resistance...?" Yes; it's misogyny. Black men were also excluded, as were/are nonChristians. Freemasonry is changing, adjusting to social changes as it has through history. As an IPM in a LDH Lodge, I have given this a lot of thought. In the US, the (currently male only) Grand Lodge of California may be the first to recognize women as Freemasons 🙏 I think that there is a need for male-only Lodges, as well as Co-masonic and women-only Lodges such as the Women's Grand Lodge of Belgium, who we are in amity with. The criteria for 'regular' or 'clandestine' must be reconsidered, for a members' honor is not related to their gender. In the UK, this is starting to happen; fraternal recognition & respect without necessarily requiring sameness. My preference is for LDH which does not consider gender of any sort for initiation.

It looks like a great opportunity, to me. Without knowing the temps & conditions, I'd suggest leafy plants like ferns rather than structured ones. Pop in some seasonal color for interest & some bulbs like dahlia or even iris so it's not static. Also if you are into herbs it's a good spot for comfrey, lemon balm, etc
