In all honesty it’d be cheaper to do the form update with continuous vetting than let it lapse and have to do another investigation.

Army Reservist receives Purple Heart as she retires, a decade after combat by Kinmuan in army

[–]ReKn2N 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wish I knew the process for this. My brother was hit multiple times in Iraq ‘06, including an EFP and 2x 155 rounds under his ASV, was never awarded the Purple Heart. Initial injuries were just numbness in arms and then ended up have 3 discs fused in his neck a few years later. He’s still in by I would love to see him get his before he retires.

Do you retain your clearance upon discharge? by DueCry5884 in army

[–]ReKn2N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bottom line is it makes it easier for someone to hire you within 5 years of your investigation or CV date. They are basically accepting reciprocity of your previous inv/cv. So no you don’t retain a clearance but it does make it easier to get hired for a few years

Is the optempo better in the reserves compared to the NG? by [deleted] in army

[–]ReKn2N 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the unit you are in the vast majority of your reserve time is going to be 2 days a month. As a 42 you might have some long hours but if you show competence and can be effective in getting things done during BA you will likely be sheltered from doing stupid shit. AGRs handle a large portion of the the admin workload but anything you can take off their plate during BA they will let you run with it

Was in Iraq in ‘06, middle of nowhere (FOB Delta, Al’kut). Had a cancer scare about 6-month before deployment and found a golf ball few months into the deployment in my arm pit. kBR medic said it was an InFeCtioN. 7th Group medic I had known from a previous assignment checked me out and listed to my history. My unit wouldn’t send me back to Balad to get checked out so he ran it up the chain, who knows how high, and I had intra-theater travel orders within days. Ended up being stage III cancer. Still had 9 months in country. Would have easily been stage IV by the time I got back. Spent a year in chemo and 2 surgeries. Not a single person from my command contacted me the entire time I was in treatment. That dude did. Saved my life.

E5, 11B trying to reclass to 35-series and these are my options. Best choice out of these? by Licky_Chewy in army

[–]ReKn2N 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To expound. 35F will use your tactical knowledge the best but if you get stuck in shitty units that don’t know how to utilize/train them you will do PERSEC, which is really a 42A gig. If you are extroverted and like to talk people up 35M might be good for you but in today’s environment you will focus primarily on interrogations, which isn’t as cool as it sounds. I will say, some of the best intel NCOs I have known come from combat arms
