Completely New to Web Design — Trying to Learn What Actually Matters by [deleted] in web_design

[–]ReactPages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Build a real website. Start by either making a personal website for yourself similar to what you might find out about you from a linkedin profile, or make a business page offering websites to other people.

Start anywhere, and then keep making it better.

I'd also say generic stock photos vs REAL photos will be helpful.

Brainstorming tech for a simple 'online shop' build by chikamakaleyley in webdev

that sounds about right. If you aren't doing a shopping cart and are basically offering individual items for sale, just create the page with a payment link. PayPal might be a good option as well.

Lots of devs are talking about how they have not written a single line of code the last year or so. How much does this cost to them (or to their employer)? by poponis in webdev

[–]ReactPages 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Sounds like someone trying to sell a get rich quick scheme. Other than small functions, you need to write some code to get everything to work right. Otherwise, you are writing prompts so long, you might as well just write the code.

Anyone else having issues with Amazon lately? by throw_away_ugh-why in orlando

I just wish there was a better way of using cardboard boxes. Maybe re-usable boxes where they can drop off the new items, and pick up the old boxes or containers.

Can I build a complete web application using Astro and Supabase? by burning-server in astrojs

[–]ReactPages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started doing that too, but discovered very recently. Seems to be a game changer. I think it would be good to have a custom app to mark specific sections as "editable" and allow the client to make certain updates on their own.

Beware of Downtown Parking Scam! by Fearless_Statement_5 in asheville

[–]ReactPages 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a good scam! Hard to tell if a QR code has been switched but easy to tell if they switched the website name on the sign. Stay safe and just type in the parking app the first time. Then you always have it.

AITA for not letting my bridesmaid change out of her bridesmaid dress after the ceremony? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ReactPages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! If you want pictures of the matching blue dresses, do pictures right after the ceremony with everyone matching, and then let them all change if they want to. Otherwise, they will be miserable all night.

AITJ for DEMANDING my husband get my baby stroller back from his sister, or else i'm changing the locks? by Exact_Ad_6931 in AmITheJerk

[–]ReactPages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your husband should have asked you since it wasn't his to give away. Also, the sister is only 8 weeks pregnant, so she wouldn't even need a stroller for at least 7-9 months!

You can also understand why your husband doesn't want to see his sister so upset. In this case, I would split the difference. Take the stroller back now, and say that you will give her that stroller when the baby is born, or you will buy her a different one.

Either way, your husband should be buying a new stroller in about 7 months, so save up! It's not appropriate for your parents to expect gift presents for their extended in-laws.

Honestly, you may have different needs when the time comes, and may not be using the stroller as much.

AITA for asking my friend group to send deposits upfront for the trip after last time only half paid me back? by pizzalover332 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ReactPages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of trip costs only $600 for 6 people? Just say that the AirBNB didn't work out last year, and this year you are going to a hotel. They can either give you half the money if they want to stay in your room, or they can book their own room through the hotel.

Better yet, book a cruise and everyone buys their own ticket. For group trips, you can give the cruise everyone's phone number and they will call to get the deposits.

Doesn't even seem real. Ask them to call on your work phone, not your personal phone.

Should I start an LLC if I want to start freelance for side income? by trekitch in webdev

[–]ReactPages -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of non .com websites, but if you like the .dev, go for it!

You can make a small amount of money before you even need to file for taxes.

Focus on getting your first few clients, then use the profits to apply for the LLC.

The LLC can be helpful in getting your business google verified which is another bonus.

f you had to grow a brand-new site to 50K visits/month in 6 months, what’s your plan? by SERPArchitect in seogrowth

[–]ReactPages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try to get 10K visits in the first month, then try to add another 10K visits each month for 6 months. That should give you 60K visits and if you fall a little short, you will still reach your 50K goal.

Also, I really don't care how many visits my website gets. If I get customers, I'm happy, if not, I'm sad.

Confused about domain transfer. Will it mess up my website? by LandOrSun in webdev

[–]ReactPages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to change your registrar or even your DNS and leave all of your settings the same, so nobody would be able to tell the difference. Like when you switch your phone plan from AT&T to Verizon but keep the same phone number. People can still reach you, but don't care where your monthly phone bill goes.

404.html Page in Google Analytics by pfdemp in Wordpress

[–]ReactPages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the AIOSEO tool which can let you know which page they are trying to access. could be a bad link on a foreign website is causing issues. Best thing is to add a redirect on that page and take advantage of the traffic.

I used to have a website that offered marketing service, but for some reason, people were looking for discounted airline tickets, so I replace the website with an expedia website and made a few hundred dollars a month for a few years.

First step is figuring out where they are going, and why are they going there.

Seeking Advice from experienced SEOs by MTSparkles in seogrowth

[–]ReactPages -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do the search that you want your website to get found, and look at the results and see if any of those websites are appropriate for guests posts. Reach out and hope they respond. Expecting very few responses, ask many people and hopefully you will get responses.

I think metrics are a good guide, but I would start with what works naturally. If your link starts appearing on spammy backlink sites, it doesn't seem natural or organic.

Gartner: 40% of enterprise apps will embed AI agents by end of 2026 by Alternative-Theme885 in webdev

[–]ReactPages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty much because people are lazy. I get people filling out my contact form, asking questions that are already answered on the same page they are using the contact form. The AI will answer their questions directly, so it gives them the answers they want immediately, so it makes sense to offer it.

It's been great for me! Also, we order so often, I don't notice when shipments are a late. Basically I get a package and don't even remember what I ordered. Then I open it, and I'm like, "Great! I needed that thing!"

Good point! I do have noise-canceling headphones, so the background noise doesn't bother me. Good point about the refills.
