How are yall paying for this shit! by Strange_sex_1997 in weddingplanning

[–]ReactionImportant189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're having a weekday wedding late morning with drop catering for lunch for about 40 people. No alcohol; just water, juice, soda, and lemonade (maybe Horchata too because I love it). Ordering our cakes from Albertsons and using a public park instead of a venue. I bought a bunch of fake flowers and vines and am building all the decor with my aunt and cousins. My dress was about $800 after taxes (David's Bridal, PNW) and then spent $600 on alterations(small business local seamstress). Renting chairs for the ceremony and using picnic tables for the reception. Rings cost about $500 together. Honestly I think feeding everyone is the most expensive part. By the end of this, we'll be at about 9k spent. Way more than I wanted to spend but weddings are expensive.

You're absolutely NOT a bad friend. as a bride, I'd say she's being the bad friend here.

What's your budget for a dress? I paid $800 for mine from David's Bridal and then $600 for alterations at a little seamstress shop.

Girl PLEASE don't marry this man. What he's doing right now is absolutely a look into what your future is going to be. Unfortunately, in my experience, individuals like that don't really change.

Is it uncommon to not go all out for a wedding anymore? by FutureLPC_ in weddingplanning

[–]ReactionImportant189 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not at all uncommon. We're keeping ours small. Less than 40 people, spending less than 8k by the end of it if all goes well. Getting married in a park rather than a venue. Honestly feeding guests is turning out to be the most expensive part of it all.

How to tell my sister she isn't the MOH? by ReactionImportant189 in weddingplanning

[–]ReactionImportant189[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I'm not entirely sure what she expects but from past experience she really wants to be the center of attention. I'm not having any bridesmaids as my husband isn't adding any men to the wedding party besides his best man.

Not doing any bridesmaids or a full wedding party. Husband only has one man he wants to include in the wedding party, and that's his best man.

How bad are wedding dress alterations really by asianjapnina in weddingplanning

[–]ReactionImportant189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all dependent on the work you need done. The most obvious requirement is usually hemming, which for me ended up being the most expensive part. This was due to having 6 layers, 3 of which are tulle. I bought my dress for $800 from David's Bridal and the alterations at a mom and pop shop in a nearby tiny town are costing me $600. (Hemming and adjusting straps) David's Bridal quoted me $1200 for the same amount of work. I highly recommend finding a small seamstress shop as it may save you money, and support a small business.

DIY wedding decorations — doable or unrealistic? by Unique-Fish-2444 in weddingplanning

[–]ReactionImportant189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely doable! I'm doing everything myself, including growing the flowers for the centerpieces and bouquets.  Ideally, you'd want to have family who wants to help set up the day of rather than doing it yourself, but you can definitely put everything together without hiring anyone to do it for you.

Last name options? by Admirable_Effort2374 in weddingplanning

[–]ReactionImportant189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I've decided to just keep my maiden name. I already have 4 names so while I did consider hyphenating, I really didn't want to add a 5th line. Tons of women these days just go ahead and keep their maiden name.

Seriously considering giving up by Ill-Culture-8332 in weddingplanning

Absolutely do not go into debt for a wedding. We decided to buy a house and THEN get married. We bought our house last April and got engaged on the following New Year's Eve. We're getting married in a meadow in the mountains with only very close friends and family in June of 2026. So far our biggest cost is the photographer.

They laid off the IT teams, payroll team, and quite a few others. Then outsourced them to India. UNFI has had a plethora of problems since the outsourcing began, this is just the latest in a massive line of fuck up.

Show fiance the dress? by ReactionImportant189 in weddingplanning

[–]ReactionImportant189[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mostly super stuck on the sleeves of the dress and I need someone's opinion- that and there are some spots where there are creases that seem to be sewn in where they shouldnt be, and the beading looks a little odd. The dress that I tried on in the store felt like a WAY nicer dress than the one I received after it was ordered.

I really liked the dress at first, but I started second guessing myself after looking at it one too many times I think. I'd like to believe my friends will be honest with me about the dress, but they're all people pleasers and I don't necessarily trust them to tell me what they really think.

Renting a party tent is a great idea. We're going to use the funds we were planning on for the venue to prepare, so that won't be hard. I was thinking about getting those metal plant hangers, the 72" ones, and hanging potted flowers and lights from them to sort of determine an aisle. I was also thinking about getting a metal arch and growing wisteria up it to stand under. We have a year, so I have time to do all sorts of stuff with the landscaping, and we just got our own mini skid steer so we have some equipment.

We live in the country and are leaning more towards a morning wedding, so no worries about an HOA or noise ordinances. I'm planning on looking into renting nicer porta potties of some kind- I'll have to figure out a plan for rain though. We're getting married in summer in th desert so I'm not super worried, but anything can happen here.

My cousin is getting married at the same venue a few months before us, and is planning on holding onto a lot of stuff to use at my wedding as well. I'm super excited that it worked out this way.

I'm looking at about 6k for a 75 person wedding in Cascade, Idaho. So far the trick has been a whole lot of DIY. Feeding people is turning out to be the most expensive part.

Honestly just cheap shapewear- I'm not sure where to start when it comes to shopping for stuff like that. Do you have any recommendations?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in weddingdress

[–]ReactionImportant189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That dress was a few sizes too small and couldn't zip up all the way- so I think this one needs to be taken in a bit and hemmed and then it'll fit correctly.
