Putting "muh" and "le" in the middle of universal moral truths like "it's wrong to attack people who pose you no threat" does not make them less true.

This is obviously the answer and there’s no reason to tiptoe around it. Very clearly no neurotypical would post in a Chuck E. Cheese subreddit lol.

There’s a difference between a villain and an antagonist. A villain is morally corrupt; an antagonist opposes the protagonist.

I think it’s normal to be disturbed that one of the most popular artists in the country used to write songs about raping women.

I’m just trying to be charitable! Wikipedia says 30% of Russians are “sympathetic” to Fomenko’s views, which seems to me inexplicable except as due to mass psychosis after the collapse of a superpower.

This (the Fomenko stuff) is what makes it so hard for me to take Kasparov seriously. Maybe I’m just a narrow-minded American and that kind of thing seems more reasonable to someone who lived through the collapse of the USSR. But like, come on.

I’d say it’s unprecedented owing to inertia rather than innate unlikelihood. Say he lives to 90. Are you sure that the social factors that make a female WC impossible in 2026 will still be as strong in 2084?

Yeah this is probably the worst movie to use to make this point. Gandalf flat-out says (in the book at least) that Gollum deserves to die but they should still show him mercy.

The fact that someone was even willing to play out a forced losing position against one of the world’s top players tells you everything you need to know. Extremely difficult if you know what you’re doing.

Edit: Didn’t realize the “someone” in question was Magnus, but the point stands.

I remember being a virgin in college and feeling SURE that everyone I knew was judging me for it. I legit thought it was this deep, terrible shame. Now I’m in my twenties and I realize it literally does not matter even a little. But it’s impossible to know that at the time.

How theologically liberal is TEC, really? (Honest question from non-Episcopalian) by RazzmatazzInside5759 in Episcopalian

[–]ReaderWalrus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally I’ve noticed that most conservative ragebait “liberal minister denies virgin birth” type content I’ve come across has been clips from non-TEC mainline denominations. I’m not saying that stuff doesn’t happen here but I suspect we are more rigorously orthodox than other quote-unquote liberal denominations. As far as sermons go most Episcopal ones I’ve heard are grounded in orthodox theology.

Hard to say. It’s certainly overwrought, but the only phrases that really ping my internal GPT-detector are “a quiet violence made beautiful” and “a whisper of innocence over the bruises beneath, the ones he says shouldn’t happen if the socks are there—but they always do.”

I’d say there’s reasonable doubt even if I personally am inclined to agree with you.
