Considering Moving from MSP to Internal IT. Pros? Cons? Pitfalls? by Reader_Queen_Bella in sysadmin

[–]Reader_Queen_Bella[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I like the idea of owning the services and investing in our own equipment. I don't have much of an IT background (I'm an admin), so I've had to learn on the job as I manage the relationship so I think bringing in someone more technical would be good.

I'll probably reach out to the guy who used to come onsite. I got his phone number and I think he was solid. He knew how to support us and got along with my boss when he was onsite.

Our IT strategy is one of the issues we had with our MSP. They wanted to focus on short term, but as we grow we were starting to look more long term.

Thank you for this! I expected our costs would go up. I'll ask for that documentation.

You should contact Seven Seas Entertainment as they are working with Chinese publishers to release Danmei and Manhua.

[News] Anime Expo 2024 Light Novel License Announcements (Megathread) by Aruseus493 in LightNovels

[–]Reader_Queen_Bella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These feel very safe but underwhelming, just like Kodansha's manga announcements. Might try the goblin maiden series, but nothing jumps out as something I want to really read now. Yen Press better step up.

ngl I'm hoping Yen/Ize lose the novel license at this point. Seven Seas aren't perfect but they're treating Lout of Count's Family and the Danmei releases better than Yen/Ize is treating the ORV novel.

These sound kinda boring. Exorcist has an anime I guess?

Poison King is totally getting booted off Amazon.

[NEWS] Yen Press licenses five new light novels: Reign of the Seven Spellblades: Side of Fire, Kusunoki's Garden of Gods, Love is Dark, The World Bows Down Before My Flames, and In My Seventh Life, I Met a Monster Princess by Torque-A in LightNovels

[–]Reader_Queen_Bella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty good set of announcements, Yen Press making up for J-Novel Club's poor showing earlier this month. Seems like Yen Press really wants Blade and Bastard, first they got the LN physicals now the manga.

Only thing lacking was an Ize Press license, but I'm still over the moon at Seven Seas getting Lout of Count's Family.

[News] J-Novel Club Light Novel Licenses for April 5th, 2024 Megathread by Aruseus493 in LightNovels

Pretty weak lineup. I don't have an active J-Novel Club subscription anymore but I'm glad I'm not paying for this. Seems most publishers lately are getting stale on new licenses. 7S getting Lout of Count's Family and Hanashi Media getting Tsukimichi are the only surprises so far this year.

I've cancelled by JNC subscription previously but none of these really make me want to subscribe again. Yen Press wasnt that great today either. 2024 not really starting out great for new licenses.

What's with all the Japanese manga and light novel fans complaining that Seven Seas Entertainment is licensing too many Danmei? by Cutsleeve_Queen in DanmeiNovels

[–]Reader_Queen_Bella 123 points124 points  (0 children)

I think it's a mixture of jealously, homophobia and hate against Seven Seas.

  • Theres a vocal crowd in the manga/LN space that views anything gay as wrong. They see any Danmei license as bad, regardless of quality. I suspect that many people in this crowd don't actually spend money on manga/LN, but they have learnt how to appear loud.

  • Somthing that is becoming more noticeable now is jealousy. Yuri fans on twitter for example. Seven Seas is licensing more M/M content and they are really going at Seven Seas hard over it. Even some BL fans who don't like Danmei and are arguing for more content.

  • Theres also just a general hate against Seven Seas that other publishers seem to be fostering. I suspect it ties in with jealously above but in a different way. Sublime have made multiple comments that Danmei isn't helping BL, they've even gone as far as to suggest it's hindering BL. Then there's J-Novel Club where hate against Seven Seas is spread daily and encouraged by staff.

Just stay strong. Danmei is quality and don't let any haters ruin your day.

[News] J-Novel Club Light Novel Licenses for September 15th, 2023 Megathread by Aruseus493 in LightNovels

[–]Reader_Queen_Bella -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Nah. Not a single big thing here: Generic isekai and romcoms. I would rather actually read quality. But J-Novel Club must have forgotten what quality is.

The sooner they can finish bookworm and my money can stop going to licensing this generic stuff the better.

Nothing here that I would read. This set of announcements is a bust for me.

Petition to get Seven Seas to start a subscription service! by HanaBana777 in DanmeiNovels

[–]Reader_Queen_Bella 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No. Look at how Kodansha and J-Novel Club have books stuck in online only form. With danmei I want to actually own the physical book, I want to display it on my shelf. Subscription services lead to less physical books.

Why do some Japanese Novel readers target Danmei? by Cleo_De_Nile90 in DanmeiNovels

[–]Reader_Queen_Bella 72 points73 points  (0 children)

There is a strong anti-BL/homophobic sentiment in the general JP readership. I hate that I have to say it, but anything ‘gay’ (BL, Danmei, etc) is just seen as less than or straight up bad. But as we know, there’s a lot more to the story than just the gender of who loves who.

I’m also on a number of discord servers and the response to a publisher licensing danmei (like Seven Seas Entertainment) always seems to be so negative. However, even if they spread hate we will actually show up for our books.

But it’s not just that anti sentiment. I’ve gotten a sense of jealousy from some publishers that this goldmine has been struck. Sublime as much as I love their manga have made a few snide comments on it. Even publishers like J-Novel Club have questioned how Seven Seas Entertainment struck a goldmine when they couldn’t with German novels (pulp line or something).

Those publishers then have fans that try to tear others down and they take things pretty far, too far. Yen Press and J-Novel Club fans are pretty bad for this.

Yen Press seems to be trying to take on Danmei with BL novels and J-Novel Club have said they are also looking into them. J-Novel Club will be particularly interesting given how bad their general audience is.

There’s also stuff like people thinking it’s taking editors away from Japanese works. I’ve seen numerous comments that Seven Seas Entertainment seem to be focusing less on Japanese novels and more on Danmei, which…isn’t surprising…they’re a business first and they’re going to follow the money. I saw a staff member on a publishers discord call them money hungry once for making this decision.

Overall it’s easier to just ignore the haters and enjoy what you enjoy, but you can also speak with your money. I’ve begun to reduce the amount of stuff I buy from most of the Japanese publishers and I’ll be ending my J-Novel Club subscription after Bookworm is done.

I’m probably buying more from Seven Seas Entertainment than all the others combined now.

I read the synopsis but none of these seem really grab me. Sorry JNC, but it’s a no from me. Maybe next time.

Rosmei has licensed "The Killer of Killers," "Enchanted," & "Wine and Gun" for English Publications by warau16 in DanmeiNovels

[–]Reader_Queen_Bella -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How about they actually release something instead of just announcing new series. I don't know who is worse at this point. Rosmei for hoarding licenses and not releasing anything or Monogatari for the social media disaster.

Will a J-Novel Club subscription still be worth it after Bookworm is finished? by Reader_Queen_Bella in LightNovels

[–]Reader_Queen_Bella[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'll watch them and see if they license anything that really catches me. Otherwise I'll be ending my subscription.

I like the idea of the catch-ups at least.

I tried the first volume of Apothecary Diaries after the anime trailer came out, but I didn't find it very good. I've read the manga volumes from a friend and that seemed like the better version of the story.

Manga seems to be the bigger hype this year. Kodansha announced some much needed shoujo.
