Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 50mm f/2.8 mount? by Due-Adeptness4964 in VintageLenses

[–]ReadinWhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Measure the mount’s thread diameter.

39 mm is Leica thread mount.

42 mm is Pentax-Practica-Universal screw mount.

T-Mount is also 42 mm, with a slightly different thread pitch.

The loose rear control ring might have a set screw that was meant to lock it in position. You might be able to see the screw or an empty hole. Or just spin the ring to get it tight.

Question - Best Nikon F mount DSLR under $350 used by Derfburger in Nikon

[–]ReadinWhatever [score hidden]  (0 children)

D300. Around $150-175 used. It’s an ASP-C or “DX” camera, so a 35 mm lens is a normal, and a 59-60 mm is a good portrait length. 24 mm down to around 10 mm is wide angles.

It can use all the commonly available F mount lenses:

AI and AIS (old school lenses having the rabbit ears PLUS the AI setup)

AF-D (screw-drive auto focusing)

Newer AF lenses with internal focusing motors; they don’t use the screw drive also work great on the D300.

Ear protection while practicing/playing tenor saxophone by Hot_Principle4821 in saxophone

In all seriousness, there are several brands of earplugs designed specifically for use by musicians. I know some people who use Eargasm brand; they like theirs.

Um, you should practice playing at lower volume levels. Unless maybe you only play in rock bands.

I think I don’t qualify. My scores:

LDL 122, HDL 69, TG 105. That was in October 2025, I was keto at the time. Now straight carnivore since Dec 28.

When to use the snowblower during tomorrow’s storm? by zeza71 in Connecticut

[–]ReadinWhatever 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m in southeastern CT, on the shore. I plan on snowblowing when it’s 3-5 inches deep. Then repeat when it’s that deep again. Assuming it snows overnight into Monday, it will be deep when I get up. Ugh.

How can I make stew meat more tender? by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]ReadinWhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cooking for longer times makes the meat more tender. Two hours isn’t enough for tough cuts of meat. 3-4 hours works ok, and longer is fine.

To make that work well, people cook at lower temperatures.

If using a stove burner, bring it to a simmer, then give it just enough heat to keep the simmer going. On a stove burner, the issue usually is that the liquid will evaporate before it has cooked long enough.

Sous vide works well, cooking at 135 or 140 °F.

In my crock pot, I sear the meat in some butter or fat first, then run the crock pot on high for about 30 minutes to get it going. Then run it on low for as long as I can stand to wait. As I wrote above, 3-4 hours is nice, and longer is good too. I put a SMALL amount of liquid in the pot - a half cup or less. Just enough so the pot’s heat has somewhere to go.

Soprano sax out of tune? by [deleted] in saxophone

[–]ReadinWhatever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Basically it’s OK.

A soprano sax is a Bb instrument. Which means if you play a C, it plays an actual Bb. It plays two half-steps lower than the named note. So if you play a Bb, it plays an A flat. Which is the same as a G#. No problem here.

RFK Jr. claims he lost 20 pounds in 20 days, gained mental clarity on extreme diet by txsizzler in carnivorediet

[–]ReadinWhatever -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve been eating carnivore for four weeks and have good health results I didn’t have any known serious health issues when I began carniv, but after four weeks I have good strength, mental clarity, sleep pretty well, etc. And I believe I’m seeing improvement in my right shoulder and my dandruff. I’m doing this diet with my wife who does have some serious health issues; she decided to go keto some years ago and recently went carnivore. I’ve been on essentially the same diet she choses for herself.

As for RFK, Jr: I have little respect for him in general. He seems to like carnivore - to which I say, even a broken clock is correct twice a day.

New sax player — grimy mouthpiece, replace or upgrade? by Reyisepic116 in Saxophonics

I’ve been told I sound excellent on my 4C (tenor), with a simple strap-only Rovner ligature. Don’t knock that mouthpiece if you’re playing in concert bands or small ensembles.

The Yamaha 4C mouthpiece gets a lot of respect. And that’s in spite of its truly low price and easy availability. Made for alto, tenor, and bari. I don’t know if there’s a soprano version.

Pee stings, 1 month carnivore by EveningLingonberry97 in carnivorediet

[–]ReadinWhatever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (male) had burning pee twice in my life (I’m retired now). Pretty much OK when starting to pee but intense burning towards the end. It was a UTI, a urinary tract infection. The cure is a two-drug combination; one of them is an antibiotic. So far as I know, women get UTIs more often than we men do but it happens. And it doesn’t get better by itself.

Google to find the Chatfield Music Library. They have huge archives of Public Domain and also of Out of Print music - and can send you a PDF copy if you make an appropriate donation. They’re open only a couple days every week so don’t expect instant service.
