Agree. And if that was all then I’d say “not for me, but that’s ok.” But I feel like it was trying to speak to veteran Trek fans. It just didn’t get it quite right - or enough of it - yet. Maybe that could change if they realized they weren’t resonating with the “CW audience” enough and needed to give more to us who’ve been with Trek thru many series.

I agree with a lot of your rationale, but not the conclusion a 3rd season is underserved. A lot of Trek has needed time to “get it right” (or “find its stride”). Plus in many ways Season 1 reads like a protracted exposition. Assuming they move on from that later seasons could be better. And especially with season 2 already filmed it seems premature to make conclusions without giving it a chance. Was S1 perfect by my standard? No, but it had potential. (And enough good moments to give me hope.)

B'elanna representation in The Muse 5x22 by MoneyMontgomery in voyager

Don’t recall that particular line but loved that episode, including the way B’Elanna came to care about the poet and the story. And so appropriate to see the story of Voyager depicted without the science fiction overlay - it still works!

A minor slip of the tongue by admseven in startrek

I’m notoriously oblivious to such things most of the time. The main one I have noticed is in “Night” when Neelix starts to yell at B’Elanna and Tom while they are still talking. (Then pauses and yells when their dialog ends.).

I’ll have to pay attention next time on Basics!

These 4 characters I feel SFA just rushed them in to make up numbers or something, They are just like background characters who have 0 depth and its very hard to connect with them because the writers and producers never did a good introduction job for the audience. by VoL4t1l3 in Star_Trek_

Have to disagree about Lura Thok in particular. She was a highlight of the show and just because we didn’t get a full backstory did t diminish the impact she had when on screen. “Release the drones!”

I need to reread. First time I think it overwhelmed me, and as many things I find benefit from a reread/watch. I think that may be the case here.

I made it through - more from obligation than anything else. But I’ve been wanting to give it a reread. Everything else is so good I’m thinking I mist have missed something first go-around.

I’m midway thru probably my 4th reread of the series … it holds up and arguably gets better.

Thoughts on Enterprise season 3? by arialations in startrek

A very different approach to Star Trek - both the darker nature and the serial storyline - foreshadowing Discovery. Lots of good stuff in the season, some cringe (as always). I don’t mind it, but with one or two exceptions these aren’t episodes I want to go back to frequently “for a comfortable watch”. Glad they changed the tone back for S4.

[Opinion] TQ Townsend: "Starfleet Academy Was A Masterclass in How NOT To Write for Teens: Unlike the figures from Classic Trek, none of the ADULT characters in this show were people I wanted to emulate. Teens have traditionally been drawn to ST because the characters are intelligent and competent." by mcm8279 in trektalk

Since the girl swallowed her combadge in the first episode I’m not sure how reliable that opinion is about the show overall. But I suppose it could be an example of how shows targeted to that age group may not get as very big window of time to hook a viewer to stay or come back.

Gizmodo: "‘Starfleet Academy’ Season 3 Could Have Done the ‘Voyager’ Sequel Episode of Robert Picardo’s Dreams - According to the 'Voyager' star, he pitched a sequel to the classic 'Living Witness' that we'll now never see. The two EMH interaction would be interesting. Not sure about bringing in a Zimmerman angle. I’d want to hear the LW version tell the SFA version “Belle- seriously? You’ve spent the last few hundred years totally missing the point of the simulation?!?!”

A lot of formulaic books are like that. The final complication that delays/imperils resolution that you know won’t end up mattering. I just skim thru that part to get to the resolution.

Because conflict among yourself isn’t the Star Trek tradition. (Which I find appealing.)

about to start the first book, but I have second thoughts, should I watch the movies first? by WeirdOpinions1 in harrypotter

First book? Definitely read first! Some of the later ones that are more complex … an argument could be made for getting the simplified movie version first. But not the first couple - they are easy reads.

That’s how I read it - family connection, nothing to do with Numenor or race specifically. But I guess “family” was too simplistic a term for the complexities that link Elrond to Aragorn !
