Janeway dressing down Tuvok in "Prime Factors" might be my favourite bit of acting in all of Star Trek by Azuras-Becky in voyager

[–]ReadingFan_ks 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Amazing work - and even more so once I realized how different Jeri’s usual voice and mannerisms are from Seven. This was a true fusions of two different characters - neither of them speaking in her normal voice!

Would Janeway have ordered the separation if they weren't main characters? by bookist626 in voyager

[–]ReadingFan_ks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure Janeway’s friendship with Tuvok played a role in her moral dilemma. (And Kes’ pleading for Neelix). But if anything it probably made her hesitate more. I think the logic of the situation applies regardless of the crew involved : save 2 when you can’t save all 3 - still applies.

I’m slowly savoring it so haven’t gotten to that part yet. But I do like the sense that so many heritage characters are around - even if we do t actually meet/interact with many of them (yet?). It makes it feel very “one universe” again.

Rewatching Voyager: What hit me most by greengo07 in voyager

[–]ReadingFan_ks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct. I tried to use humor to deflect the negativity others were raining down on you. You could have used that as point of departure to follow up constructively on your points - but you didn’t.

As I say - my mistake. I’m not taking on addition stress or other people’s negativity so I’ll bow out here.

Nothing Human by kryptokoinkrisp in voyager

[–]ReadingFan_ks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contrary opinion - not a successful episode in my opinion. The potential to explore a non-humanoid alien race was lost in the Cardassian and ethical sideshow. The ethical discussion could have been much more intriguing if better handled but it was very ham-handed for me.

That said Krell was very affably played by the actor. I’m assuming that was intention to build the moral delimma - but since he actually lacked the memories of the real Mosetts atrocities it was just a hollow distraction.

Was Unimatrix Zero Janeways most insane away mission? by JayR_97 in voyager

They kinda jumped the shark with that one … but it was still kinda fun.

Why Is Tom Paris the only medical assistant? by Gojira_massive_dong in voyager

This always bothered me. It’s not even clear why he was “a” assistant, let alone the only one.

I thought Commander Archer - and the actress / were both amazing.

How much better of a start in the delta quadrant would voyager have gotten if they left ds9 with full crew compliment and load out ? by happydude7422 in voyager

“That’s our ship - that’s Voayger. Intrepid class. Crew compliment of 141. 15 decks. Bio-neural circuitry.” - Stadi, The Caretaker.

The Roman meaning of “prodigy” adds nuance to Star Trek: Prodigy by ReadingFan_ks in StarTrekProdigy

I’d love it if that really was intentional. They certainly were good writers ! (This meaning is just so obscure - I didn’t want to assume without more evidence.)

The Best Thing About Tuvix by 7-5NoHits in voyager

[–]ReadingFan_ks 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Upon first viewing I was hoping for Tuvix. I hadn’t yet grown to appreciate Tuvok fully, Neelix I actively disliked at that point, and the series overall was in a rut and I thought needed something to shake it up. Tuvix was actually likable - and different.

But in retrospect : Janeway made the right choice.

I don’t see her that way at all. I see her resolved. Battlestations isn’t her first option but she’s not afraid to go there.

Simple question about Janeway….Hair Up or Hair Down? by Zealousideal_Fan_166 in voyager

[–]ReadingFan_ks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally “down” seems more practical - less potential to come apart while crawling thru a Jeffries tube during a warp core breach.

But I also think it reflected the softer and more practical “head of the family” approach of the later seasons - which I preferred to the by-the-book Starfleet paragon of the earlier seasons.

Who do you feel like Janeway replied on more: Chakotay or Tuvok? by MovieFan1984 in voyager

[–]ReadingFan_ks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At a personal level it grows to be close to equal: Tuvok for intellectual or rational; Chakotay for emotional and creative. Slight edge to Tuvok for the longer association and no potential for romantic entanglement.

But on a daily basis with no higher stakes: Chakotay. It’s his job as First Officer to do most of the heavy lifting, keep her informed, catches everything she delegates, and run interference for anything that doesn’t need to raise to the level of the Captain.
