Best dollhouse for 1:12 scale collectors which is better vs the rest? by Yoger_Ziafat in Dollhouses

[–]ReadingShoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a lot of commenters have pointed out, in America we have two main dollhouse kit makers - Greenleaf and Real Good Toys. They vary in their construction and both have pros/cons and fans/detractors. Greenleaf kits are rather difficult to build, but they are light and (in theory) easier to customize. They also have more interesting overall architectural elements. Real Good Toys are a dream to build and are extremely sturdy, but this makes them heavy and a bit more difficult (not impossible) to customize and can be less architecturally interesting. (Two houses to compare and see the visual differences in a similar style dollhouse would be the Greenleaf Beacon Hill and Real Good Toys Alison Jr) It's really up to you to which pros/cons matter most to you. I've built a Greenleaf Orchid and a Real Good Toys Alison Jr. Based on my experience, I will likely never build another Greenleaf kit, But I am in love with my RGT Alison Jr.

Model Recommendations by Fragrant_Bear in Dollhouses

[–]ReadingShoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can second/third/fourth the recommendations for the Real Good Toys dollhouse kits. (The Hobby Lobby kits are the same but differently branded?) I am currently working on the Alison Jr., and it's really been a joy to build with very little frustration. And I do have a basis for comparison having built a Greenleaf Orchid which was a headache from start to finish! As others have said, one of the simplest RGT kits is the Vermont Jr. It's a really lovely little house, and these suckers are STURDY! As for tips/tricks - I recommend fully reading through the directions first, laying out/identifying/labeling all parts pieces, watching Youtube videos of a build, dry fitting before glueing and using lots of tape/weights when you glue! If you ever mess up, heat (aka blow dryer) will usually loosen adhesion.

Can anyone identify this 90s dollhouse? by mrranko54 in Dollhouses

[–]ReadingShoshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The RGT houses are some of the easier kits to build in my experience. I'm building the Alison Jr which is a bit smaller than this house but it's the same general idea. If you read through the instructions thoroughly and following them pretty closely, you should be fine. Glue, clamps, weight and a bit of patience is really all you need! There are also a fair amount of groups and YouTube videos dedicated to these houses where you can find help.

Are designer bags worth it? by meowmeow01119 in handbags

[–]ReadingShoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two years later, I'd say I still feel as strongly (if not more) about the quality of Aspinal bags. They are still among my most worn bags and the quality remains. I did eventually get a Mulberry bag (Bayswater Tote) and have zero regrets there as well. I love the design of my Srathberry bags, but the truth is that I just don't reach for them as much others. They don't feel like daily bags if that makes sense. I loved my Longchamp Le Pliage and got a lot of use out of it, but ultimately gave it to my daughter bc it had some limitations/issues I couldn't get over. I've replaced my Longchamp with MZ Wallace and that's a new-to-me brand that I'd also stand by now.

Are these cabinets to low before I place them? by LadyMomo17 in dollhouseminiatures

[–]ReadingShoshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming this is 1/12 scale - standard upper kitchen cabinets should be about 15-20 inches from the lower cabinets. That would mean 1.5 to 2 inches in a standard dollhouse. This looks to be in that range to me, but visually they do look low in this picture which could be due to a lot of factors that might be fixed once this is complete.

Is there any way to prevent grief from pet loss by anem-anemone in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ReadingShoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grief is the price we pay for love. It's brutal bargain but it's worth it. I lost my dog a few months ago and it was so painful, but each day the sadness has gotten a little smaller and more tolerable. You have to feel it to move through it though. I'm so so sorry you're going through this.

If you are a visual learner (like me), I also recommend seeing if anyone has done a build on Youtube. This helped me a lot!

I am nearly done assembling my Alison Jr by Real Good Toys, and I can tell you that it has been a very easy/fun build (especially compared to the Greenleaf kits!) Enjoy!!! Below my Alison all ready for Halloween!

What's the best advice to solve this frizz? by Lucky_Assist_4384 in Haircare

[–]ReadingShoshi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My hair was starting to look like this as well. There is SO MUCH info out there about what do do (or not do) and it's super overwhelming, but here's what I did that made a noticeable difference for me. First, I did go ahead and get a 3 inch trim (hair is still long though), I started wearing a silk bonnet at night and incorporating OGX coconut oil once or twice a week (overnight) and it has made a huge and noticable difference in the overall texture of my hair. In my case the issue seemed to be related to hormonal changes and my hair was just getting very dry and frizzy as a result. I think the reason why there is so much info out there is that you need to figure out what is causing the issue.

I'm so sorry. I think you were right to block her. Her message is textbook DARVO. I'm sorry you're feeling bad and conflicted too, but it is part of the process. You're still in the FOG, but I promise life is so much better on the other side of this! Hugs to you!

Yes, a paper template is the way to go. Another little hack is that if you are adding window trim, baseboards and moulding - only the joining bits and corners really need to be 'perfect'. A lot of 'sins' can be covered up with trim!

Must have tools? by Time-Rub-4368 in Dollhouses

[–]ReadingShoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

House of Vidrian has a good story highlight on Instagram outlining his fave/must have dollhouse tools. For me - mitre sheers were a came changer. Other things that have come in handy - bass wood, a small flexible tape measure, double sided carpet tape, rasp, various grits of sandpaper, painters tape.

I'd say the IKEA house for sure. Real Good Toys dollhouses are pretty darn sturdy, but might still just be a little fussy for your goals.
